Well that was a fun Falcon year. I liked the Trufant, Alford and Toilolo draft picks. I honestly thought that the Falcons would win 11 games easily, 10 if they just plain blew one. I was really looking forward to Roddy laughing at Sherman again. Alas. The offensive line was just awful. I'm not the type of fan to blame injuries on losing. I think with everyone healthy the Falcons would have still only eeked out 8 wins. The offense was expected to score over 35 every game and the defense was supposed to hold the other team to under 30 and make some big plays occasionally. I didn't notice the team quitting on Smith which is a good sign. I think Smith should be gone but I also think Dimitroff should be on the hot seat too. I've come to like Nolan and Koetter after looking at the facts and stats. They do pretty good work with what they've got. I have no idea but I do think that Smith gets in their way at crucial times. Smith reminds me of Coach Joe B. Hall, the Wildcats Coach who could recruit like nobody's business and game plan like a boss. He also would UNDERMINE the talent he did recruit with his coaching style and if Game Plan A didn't work well - he didn't know what to do. His assistants would have to take over. I think Smith is a lot like this and I wish he'd let his assistants take over.
Anyway - this is Atlanta area sports and we don't like to be mean or, heaven forbid, unfair, so Smith will most likely be back. Let's see what he can do with no excuses next year (I'm hoping that all the major catastrophies are out of the way). Let's see what the Falcons Front Office will do to improve the team.
I've enjoyed finding this website and you Falcoholics are a pretty good and knowledgeable bunch. Can't just throw some comment out there without looking at some numbers haha.
My New Year's Resolution is to never again bring up Matt Ryan's sliding in open areas and near the goal line instead of going for it. I think it's got to have a negative effect on his teammates psyche as to what giving it all to win is all about but, hey, I could be wrong. Either way, Ryan is a pretty darn good QB and I'll just look the other way in the future.
I think I can keep this resolution. What resolution(s) for Falcons Football do you have?
