10 yards.........10 long yards away from a dream. A struggling offensive line failed to protect an already injured Matt Ryan. Holding call on Navorro Bowman that could of been. The visiting team immediately started to celebrate as the home team leaves the field hanging their heads.
As the old cliche goes ; "it's not how you handle a loss, it's how you respond".
Everyone knew that this team would respond. Finally the team that was scrutinized since day one earned a little respect and everyone was on the bandwagon.
Well..........what happened? Fast Foward the Atlanta Falcons are 2-6 and don't know why. Finally after five years the league can finally laugh and put us back in the irrelevant folder. I mean...... Isn't that what they have been trying to do? Why else would the most winningest team of the last five years be one of the least talked about sport franchises. But it doesn't matter now because they get the last laugh. Unless Arthur Blank changes the culture of the Atlanta Falcons.
And I'm not talking coaching changes or players I mean a whole sale change and I'm about to tell you what needs to happen for this team to climb the nfl mountain once again.
For years the Atlanta Falcons have anchored the 4-3 defense. And ironically for years the defense has been a joke. So what is it going to take to field a respectable defense? Well Arthur Blank, Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith better understand that trying the same idea and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. A 3-4 defense doesn't need a primary pass rusher as the Jets have shown us over the years. It's all about deception until you can bring in a primary rusher. The defense needs to be taught that physicality is the key. Look at the Saints. This was the worst defense in nfl history last year. But suddenly you bring in a coach that teaches physicality and a 3-4 defense and they are playing well, with backups. Some of you may say "well we don't have the personnel". And my response to that would be "so your saying the Saints did?"
Dirk Koetter.....I will never understand the decision to hire this guy. As if he were coming of a year with the most dynamic offense ever in Jacksonville(not). Dirk Koetters scheme does not fit our Matty Ice. Dirk wants to push the ball deep getting big play after big play. That's Not Matt. Koetter is running an offense which requires a big arm QB. THAT IS NOT MATT. Matt Ryan does not have a strong arm, which means all his deep throws must timed. Our offense should be built on efficiency. Completing passes for short but converting 3rd down. Picture the pats offense last year. Remember them picking teams apart without all big name guys? Sure they had Gronk Hernandez and Welker but remember these were a bunch of nobodies before they came to Patriots. Atlanta should mold their offense into something like the patriots. A decent run with a quick strike offense that causes for quick routes and quick decisions. This will compensate for a less than stellar O-Line. I don't know it's just something doesn't make sense about an offense that tries to push the ball down field but doesn't have a strong arm QB or a O-Line to protect him.
The Falcons are already being awarded a new stadium. But I think they should take it further. It's time for new jerseys. I for one have never been a fan of the current fashion wear of the Atlanta Falcons but that's because I've never been a Michael Vick fan. And yes if you are not aware the current jerseys were created in the image if Michael Vick. Representing speed and agility these jerseys were specifically designed for Vick to still be our QB today and you see how that has panned out.
I feel that if the falcons want to move on from Vick, the losing seasons, from being the same old falcons, and the Super Bowl drought it's time for Authur Blank to make this change. If Mike Smith was smart he would jump on board as well. You see I don't believe for on second that Smith has lost this team but I don't know what goes on in that locker room. If these changes were made it would refresh the players and give them another reason to be excited for the 2014 season. So what do you think? Personally I think the teams primary color should be black with a hint of red
