Falcons hanging their Hat on ....(insert answer here)

Hang your Hat on…..

Football plays like to use the term "Hang your hat" which basically means being good at something. Most football teams hang their hats on something.

Unfortunately, the Falcons aren’t hanging their hat anywhere.

Most offensive lines are good at run blocking or pass blocking or both. The Falcons offensive line is good at neither.

Most defenses make a living stopping the run or the pass, or if you’re lucky stopping both. Our defense cannot stop either.

Most special teams have an electrifying return man that makes you excited about the possibilities of a big run back and a score or good field position. We don’t. The guy who could probably do it made one mistake and the job was taking from him. Why do we allow so many other players to make mistake week after week I wonder? (I’ll be waiting on that answer all season). We do however have a great punter and a great field goal kicker. The problem is fans don’t want to punt or kick field goals.

At this point the Falcons don’t have any hats on the hat rack.

What can we do to put at least one hat there by the end of the season.

What area are we close to being good at and what can we do to hang our hat on that particular area?

I’ll start it off by saying run blocking. I think we are close to being a good run blocking team. I actually think our blocking schemes are awful. If you are going to run dives all game you must double the DT to the side your running too and get the RB to the second level that almost guarantees you 3-4 yards and the RB has to do the rest. I haven’t seen a stretch run, or toss sweep this year, it’s pretty easy to stop an offense that runs the same plays week after week Mr. Koetter aka Mularkey 2.0. I think we have to be a little more like New York media and call people out when needed. What do you all think we can hang our hat on in these last few games?
