Foxsports does a feature "what we learned in week 4" that I do not agree with concerning the Falcons. Here is what they had to say about the Atl vs Carolina game,
"Yes, the Falcons (4-0) are off to their best start since 2004. But are they really that good? At home in the Georgia Dome, against the one-win Panthers, Atlanta needed a timely fumble by Cam Newton (pictured) and a last-minute drive and field goal to outlast Carolina 30-28. Matt Ryan had another big day for the Falcons, connecting early and often with Roddy White, but the Falcons should have been more commanding against a Panthers team that was blasted 36-7 by a depleted Giants squad last week."
I have several issues with these statements.
First, a team's record does not factor in whether a team will win on any given Sunday. It could play in the winning records team favor in odds to win but overall, it has no real effect. Anything can happen. For this reason alone, it is why we love football. There are upsets and surprises. Just because the Falcons did not blow the Panthers out of the water does not make the Falcons less significant. A win is a win.
Second, Foxsports does not give Panthers enough credit for playing well. It is a slap in the face to the Panthers and Panthers fans to not state that the Panthers offense showed up on Sunday. Furthermore, the defense put constant pressure on Matty Ice with 7 sacks and kept in the game all the way to the end.
The idea of questioning whether the Falcons are a good team is ridiculous. The team showed great character with this win and also I would never discredit the Panthers team or any team just because of their record or how they played the week before, unlike how Foxsports would.
