The 2012 NFL season is about to kickoff, real football has finally arrived, and it's about time, right? The preseason has run its course and now things get serious as Chiefs legend and future hall of famer Tony Gonzalez returns to Arrowhead Stadium along with the visiting Atlanta Falcons.
Seriously, though Tamba Hali will be on the bench as per league suspension, CB Brandon Flowers might be out (again) with a deep heel bruise (or something), All-Universe ILB Derrick Johnson could be doubtful along with S Kendrick Lewis and our First Round draft pick, Dontari Poe, is second string NT; but there is hope in KC. All-Universe S Eric Berry is back and healthy, with Sophomore OLB Justin Houston along with Free Agent CB Stanford Routt, and an underrated Tyson Jackson on the DLine with Glenn Dorsey and starting NT Anthony Toribio.
In the other side of the ball, Cassel really has looked good thus far, All-Universe RB Jamaal Charles is back and healthy, and RB Peyton Hillis looks to be in 2010 form. Dwayne Bowe has signed his tender and WR Jonathan Baldwin, last year's 1st Rounder, is beginning to come into his own, WR Steve Breaston has some of the best hands in the NFL, and the speedy Dexter McCluster looks like a legitimate weapon. The OLine has been revamped, with Free Agent OG Eric Winston being perhaps the biggest and best signing in a long time. Add 2nd Year C Rodney Hudson and former Raider TE Kevin Boss to a returning Tony Moeaki, and Chiefs fans are more hopeful than we've been in a long time.
For the preseason, the Chiefs were 1-3, looking very strong in the opening exhibition against the Cards, but falling short (though looking decent in some ways) againt the Rams then getting stomped by a determined Seahawks team.
Props and thanks to Falcoholic Baron Dave Choate for posting Ask A Falcoholic over at Arrowhead Pride.
Question about the enemy? You've got 'em, and we've got answers, or at least some very strong opinions that we're always willing to share. Here's to football, 2012 style, no injuries for either side and may the best team win. Shalom!
