Firstly I am a huge Falcons fan. I am writing this with the intent of seeing a slightly different side of the Falcoholic, one that is a bit more dramatic and to look at possible scenarios that I would imagine, most of us wouldn't want to occur.
I do want to raise a few tough questions/scenarios and I'd love to see your responses/arguments. Saying that I don't want people to blatantly say I am wrong and that the scenario won't happen.
1. Matt Ryan is not good enough to win a Super Bowl.
What if Matt Ryan can't make the jump to being an elite quarterback and win a Super Bowl? Ryan is already considered on the fringe of being a top 10 player but if he can't make the leap to that top 5 group then could he really lead the team to a Super Bowl? Furthermore his playoff woes are well documented, so what if he becomes more Tony Romo than Peyton Manning and doesn't start playing well? Should we abandon him for someone else or keep going on a road that won't get us to what we all really want, a Super Bowl ring.
2. Asante Samuel isn't going to help on defense.
In the most recent preseason game, Asante Samuel was beaten by AJ Green on a long 50-ish yard pass. So what if he doesn't help our defense at all? What if he was let go for a 7th round pick because that is all he is worth? With a questionably thin depth chart in our linebackers it seems to me that we are focusing on our pass defense to stifle other teams. But if Grimes, Robinson and Samuel cannot improve on our 20th ranked passing defense. Then what chance do we have against players like Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady? And if we can't stop those players, how do we expect to win games?
3. The offensive line is no better this year
One of our biggest issues last year was our offensive line. Ryan got hit 80 times last season (7th worst in the league). This caused Ryan to rush passes and be generally ineffective. Though they helped Turner to a solid rushing season (3rd in the league), it is well known that the Falcons are going to rely on Ryan a lot more than Turner this season. If the offensive line can't Pass Block effectively, then will our whole team collapse? The line is largely unchanged from last year with only Peter Konz providing what seems like will be the only difference in regular personnel. With just one new player can we really expect better fortunes for the O-Line? And if our O-Line struggles can we really expect to make the playoffs again this season?
I will leave it to those 3 scenarios, though I have a few more that I could raise, regarding Turner, JJ and the coaches.
UPDATE: OK I wanna be really clear with this because from the initial comments I don't think I was. I don't believe any of these scenarios are true, so to say I don't any evidence to back up my points is irrelevant. This isn't an argument against the Falcons, its a hypothetical scenario to see what people think. Please don't just say that I am stupid and don't know what I am talking about, it's not the point of this article at all
