Welcome fellow Falcoholics,Welcome fellow Falcoholics,
We enter into this season trying to figure out if we are a team in transition. Coming in with two new coordinators it would seem our philosophy could be evolving and considering who Koetter and Nolan are I only have one thing to say. Adapt or Die. The opportunity to seize the NFC South is coming in fast with New Orleans being hit with Thor's Almighty Mjollnir disguised as Roger Goodell, we have to be ready to conquer our season with what could be one of the fastest teams in the league. Our biggest problem should be shored up with the acquisition of Asante Samuel. We have young strong legs in our run game ready to step up in Peter Konz and Bradie Ewing devastating the way for Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers. We have depth at every position and bring in talented NFL Players in Lofa Tatupu and Vince Manuwai. Our pass rush features John Abraham and a healthy Ray Edwards.
Personally though the biggest move to come is the fact that we have a true off-season. I think we can all agree that the team that started in 2011 was not the same team that ended in 2012. Understanding that a frustrating and humiliating loss to the Giants is how it was ended, we have a lot of sparks to like in this team.
Dirk Koetter has an emphasis on the screen pass and for power run football but, keep in mind that he was responsible for a team that had some of the most consistent top ten offenses before being shellacked with the team they had last year. Expect huge numbers to be coming for our entire offense and for us to see our upside and potential be completed.
Mike Nolan. Folks this hiring was simple, the Falcons haven't had a top 10 defense in yards allowed since we went to the Super bowl. Nolan brings a no nonsense attitude that has gambled and lost in San Fran but worked well in Miami. The biggest problem I have with this hiring is 3rd down efficiency was not great the first half of the season and yes it did get better but, I want consistency throughout the team. Our personnel on defense on paper is one of the best that Nolan will have. Two former pro bowlers for CB and with Dunta playing slot CB its going to bring pain to our opponents. Tatupu was off last year and it might have benefited him to do so since he had been known to be injured. There will be rust but I am not expecting him to be a three down LB. That’s where our biggest mystery comes in with Akeem Dent. Dent is stepping into the hole that Lofton left for the Aint's. One of the most consistent linebackers we had but, was abysmal in the pass defense. Dent brings a UGA attitude and known for wrapping up tacklers although he was used for special teams last year. With the LB core handed to Sean Weatherspoon, I hope to see Dent being good at what MLB's do best, clean up crew.
My expectation runs high with this team. Carolina might be ready to step up but, I think it's very possible Cam Newton has a sophomore slump. Tampa Bay had a great draft and free agency but, will that translate into something new with Brian Schiano taking over from Rutgers university.
The bottom line is that the stars have aligned to let the Falcons take over. There is no excuse for whom we've brought in to expect anything less and I have hopes that we make it to the Big One this year. Thanks for reading my first fan post!
