If you don't follow Adam Caplan and you're on Twitter, you should rectify that immediately. Early today, Caplan had a string of tweets about the Falcons that were very insightful. Despite working mainly as an analyst for the Eagles, Caplan always has an eye out on the NFL, and the Falcons in particular. Follow me after the jump for a glimpse into the future of the Falcons' Defense.
First, Caplan weighs in on the MLB situation, letting us in on conversations he's had with Smitty:
Falcons: I asked Mike Smith about Tatupu, he said his workout was really strong, change of direction was really good. Adam Caplan (@caplannfl)
Smith indicated that the MLB job is wide open between Akeem Dent and Tatupu. And there will be a shift in philosophy on defense under Nolan.— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl)
Then, Caplan weighs in on 3rd Down packages (specifically Nickel DEF):
Weatherspoon for sure. RT LanceZierlein caplannfl I think Nicholas and Weatherspoon should be fine in nickel as their two LBs— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl)
Then, we get a hint at what Smith is expecting from Nolan:
Got the impression, even without him saying it, that Smith is expecting Nolan to be much more aggressive. Adam Caplan (@caplannfl)
Also on the Falcons D, Smith indicated there will be some differences from years past in 3rd down packages with personnel etc with Nolan.Adam Caplan (@caplannfl)
Also on Smith, he worked under Nolan with the Ravens, so he knows what Nolan is capable of doing with their defense. — Adam Caplan (@caplannfl)
Best of all:
So if you're a #Falcons fan, you should be excited to see what Nolan will do on defense this season.— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl)
Since information has been sparse regarding what we can anticipate on the DEF next year, these little tidbits got me really excited. What do you make of all this?
