Super Bowl XLVI Open Thread
The New England Patriots. The New York Giants. A rematch of 2007 and stuff!
The Super Bowl doesn't feature any teams I hold a particular regard for, so I'll be watching this purely as a fan of football. On those merits, this ought to be a fun game, replete with scoring and some half-hearted stabs at defense. This is also a huge game up in my neck of the woods, since the Pats are returning to the Super Bowl for the first time since getting dropped by the Giants.
Enjoy the game!

Drop your best pass rusher into coverage giving a QB all day to throw a TD...
Sounds familiar for some reason…
Real smart
I was thinking the same thing. Just stupid.

This game has been really boring
Hope it picks up in the second half
The Falcons Blessing continues!
Braves.
Falcons.
Gamecocks.
Not really
Just dislike the team, would have preferred any team aside from the Saints. Giants and Saints are really the only 2 teams I strongly dislike.
you know
the Pack ran up the score last year.
The Niners have history with the Falcons.
No one seems to like Jerry’s World
and every non Patriots fan dislike them.
I doubt it’s any different.
I know
You can find a reason to hate any team, the Saints are an obvious #1 and the rest are usually personal beef. Unless your big into the division thing then the Panthers and Bucs would be 2 and 3.
One of the primary motives to hate teams
is if we are getting our ass kicked by them on a regular basis.
My long held bias is against New York and West Coast teams. In the days before internet, 24 hr cable TV,and the telecast of almost all games, the media bias and coverage so blatantly favored NY and LA,that I hoped those teams would go winless every year. That motivation still holds to a lesser extent but over the years the reason for hating those same teams shifted away from media bias and toward horrific player payroll imbalances and the resulting entitlement attitude of their fan bases and $100 mil + luxury tax payments.
Somehow I think I will always have that same bias toward the same teams, albeit for different reasons as the landscape changes over the years.
My dislike on big market teams goes back to the NFL blackout policy
This is why I hate the 49ers and Cowboys to this day. While our hometown Falcons were playing we were forced to watch either the 49ers or Cowboys (or insert another big market team here). Screw the NFL home office that still thinks it’s a good idea to blackout local games and screw their fanbase. I never understood the notion that you punish people who can’t afford to go to the games on a regular basis and shrink your fan base due to that idiocy.

Giants figured out how good they were after they faced our fearsome offense.
Braves.
Falcons.
Gamecocks.
Wow
New York barely made the playoffs, had a four game losing streak in the middle of the season, and still won the SB. I guess NY had the best matchups for their run.

They also are the only team
to ever win a playoff game with a negative point differential.
Victor Cruz? he pretty much was
he was in 3 games last year and didn’t have any stats.

Again we see
the importance of having a quality d line. the giants took down ryan rodgers and brady in large part because their d line allowed them to hang with top-flight QB’s. the d line, in my opinion, is where the current falcons roster stands furthest from the new champs.
O-line should be included in that.
Giants have a special D-line, though.

Thats true Caleb
The Pats have an outstanding pass rush also. But,on the Giants first possession of the game,Eli was sacked twice and took a hard shot on another play.He was touched only 3 times the entire rest of the game.
Outstanding Oline play by the Giants.
and that's the hardest part
we’ve always known we have a suspect O-line, but the D-line? We have babs and peters in the middle. one would assume we should be able to generate pressure up the middle but alas that was not the case most of the time.

Exactly Hammer
Week in and week out, year in and year out, that fundamental truth proves itself out over and over and over again.
Contrary to what media interests shovel and call analysis, football is still a line of scrimmage driven game. But,talking about line of scrimmage play doesn’t get TV and radio ratings and sell newspaper and magazine subscriptions.
Interesting stat
The average win count for the past ten Super Bowl winners is 10.3 Just shows that anything can happen in the playoffs. I heard a funny thing on tv that made me think of the falcons..
A QB is like a boner in a wh*** house, he’s only as good as his protection.

I have no problem
With the Giants, they were my dad’s team until he passed back in ‘97. I’m sure he was elated when they won. We’ll win this thing eventually…
Evil Falcon
First 9-7 team to win the SB, if I'm not mistaken.

Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey? Have I been asleep? Cold weather SB?
That’s really cool. Bad pun not totally intended. Don’t know why, but I’ve always wanted to see weather become a factor during a Super Bowl. Especially when, like usual, I don’t care about what teams are playing…
I like cheese
Hello NFL teams, are you in need of a SB ring. Is your 9-7 or 10-6 team that barely slipped in to playoffs needing some help, well, beat the Falcons and you are guaranteed a SB berth!
I wanted the Giants to win.
And one thing funny to me…try as hard as they can, the commentators just can’t worship Eli Manning like they do Brees Rodgers and Brady. He doesn’t have that air about him. He just wins.
All I could think watching the game was
MAN … it’d sure be nice to see what Matt could do with 6 – 7 seconds to throw the ball on each play.
