Roddy White Mad At Goodell's Pay
Of course our own Roddy White would be the first one to make any noise about this.
Though he might have a point there. Maybe.

Might be time to trade Roddy
Tired of hearing his mouth. Here’s a fact Roddy: the refs work under Goodell. No telling how many clown a** phantom penalties might be thrown our way because of this nonsense. This guy is always making himself a target and it’s time he does it elsewhere why he still has value.

We don't have to continue to settle Atlanta. We're better than that.
At least a 2nd
The 49ers might be willing to give up a 1st since they think he could be its “missing piece”.
The Jags, Texans, and Broncos are just a few others.

You know...
trading Roddy for a first and then drafting either the best WR or TE available would be a really great thing.
Imagine, two young WRs that could spend their entire careers with Matty.
We would have to get a replacement WR out of it somehow. You don’t just give away your #1 and expect your #2 to suddenly step into his role. Julio might not be ready for that unless we have a capable #2 on the roster that can take some pressure off of him.

I've always thougth Meachem would look really good here
He was the 3rd or 4th option in NO and he’s only 26.
Meachem and Julio. HD in the slot, and TG and Green/Charles/Fleener looks damn good to me with Cone stepping up to the 4th receiver.

however he is a team cancer unless under bellichick. and my both both cris carter and I both agree he has the most quit in him as a player I have ever seen. no thank you

I just wish the Falcons would start talking to some of the FA they want to keep
and let us know that they’re doing so. This time of the year so freakin’ boring
I love that the players are on twitter.
I do not love it when they use it for the wrong reasons. Use it to talk to your fans and not talk junk about stuff you don’t like. Nothing is going to change it.

Let's see
Roddy is a pretty good pass catcher,, which has to thrown by the QB, who (theoretically at least) should be protected by the OLine, which is drawn up by the OC.
Goodall runs what is a corporation with revenues, depending on who you believe, at least in the $6 billion range that is more popular today than it ever has been.
The owners, you know the business guys, gave him the raise. I think they know what the real score is.
Put a sock in it Roddy.

Roddy soooooo wants to be a diva
He’s lucky he was the only player involved in that stupid ‘FREE MICHAEL VICK’ touchdown celebration that didnt get cut or traded within a year.
Arthur cast a wide net in purging his team of the players involved in that hideous spectacle, including veteran players that knew about it ahead of time and failed to stop it.The only reason i can think of that Roddy survived was that he was too young and stupid, at the time,to know better.
Well………… apparently, now he’s just too stupid to know better.
To my knowledge, he doesn't really complain about balls thrown his way or whatever.
He just tweets really dumb things.

Anyone else think Roddy is absolutely justified in saying this?
The power dynamics of professional sports are tricky, but I am firmly in the corner of the players being able to express that sort of view, and I actually think Roddy (not normally the most eloquent tweeter) put it quite well when he said “Its the players who make this league, don’t ever forget that.”
Goodell is a ruthlessly loyal pawn of the owners, and the 11th hour resolution of last year’s lockout doesn’t change the fact that the owners made it pretty clear they are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to subjugate the players, come up with ridiculous red herrings to hide the inherently dangerous nature of football, whitewash the league’s image at every possible juncture, etc.
Good for Roddy to stand up to him…remember that at the end of the day, we feed the moneysucking monster that is the NFL because we want to see people like Roddy make amazing things happen on a football field, not because the team is owned by Arthur or run by the ginger hammer. The players make the league, fellas, we all should be okay with a player vocalizing that sentiment.

I agree with it all
Roddy’s not a very tactful tweeter but I have no problem with this one. Who has he harmed?
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
What I don't get
is why some people seem surprised by the fact that Goodell is “a rruthlessly loyal pawn of the owners”. He works for the owners, they sign his check, (i.e. they tell him what to do).
"People in this country used to look at a successful person and ask what can I do to have that kind of sucess. Now a lot of people look at a successful person and ask what can I do to take what he has."
- Tommy Beam
The players owe alot to Goodell
As the Commish,he has presided over by far,the largest escalation of the leagues revenues, and the number of sources of that revenue in its history.Record growth in the worst economy in 30 years, largely due to capital investment by the owners, merchandising, network, and advertising contracts, and a list of revenue streams that goes on and on and on and on.
The players are huge winners in the enormously successful venture of NFL football.Players who know nothing about the business that has made them wealthy, look very small in making it so obvious how unaware they are of how little they know.
I wonder
if it’s Goodell they owe it to, or Tagliabue. I’m thinking it might be the latter.

Some Coaches
would not stand for comments like this. I don’t have to name names you guys know who they are but this is part of what I see as the problem. Mike Smith does not wear the pants in this house. No way in hell you trade a guy with the skills of a Roddy White because of a silly comments…that’s just plain STUPID!! As the GM and HC you do however sit Roddy down and have a come to Jesus meeting and let him know going forward comments detrimental to the team will be met with a fine and or suspension. Players have to be put in time out sometimes, that “players coach” BS don’t work when you have Roddy Whites on your team. The guy talks too much but anybody suggesting you trade or cut this guy for a silly comment or two is not a Falcon fan but more of a Roddy White hater IMO.

Good thing Roddy doesn't actually directly for Goodell then, huh?
Now if he said this about Blank I could understand (who is his actual boss and a good one at that), but Goodell actually is a crappy Commissioner and shouldn’t make more that the best QBs. Why are Falcons fans attacking him for it?
Because there are lines you don't cross
and he crossed it.
There’s a part of me that agrees with him. I’m no bigger a fan of Goodell than the next guy, but this is also the whole body of work here. This isn’t Roddy’s first outburst about anything.
At what point do you start to say, “Okay, this needs to stop.” I have no doubt that there are other players out there who feel the same way, but none of them are speaking up about it. Why is that?
Because they know better.

I'll admit
Roddy needs to shut up and play. However once again any so-called Falcons fan who thinks Roddy should be cut or traded for some silly comments is a fake a$$ fan to begin with. Where does this whole concept of grown a$$ men not being able to give their opinions come from? That was Roddys opinion, it may not be an intelligent one or a popular one but it’s his. It’s clear to me in reading some of the comments posted now and in the past. Some Falcons fans really don’t care about winning, they just want to see guys play football that they really like as a person. Some one they can identify with on a personal level. Roddy White is the best WR in the history of the organization, THE GD HISTORY of the organization and a negative comment about the salary of one Roger Goodell is enough to make you want to run him out of town. PATHETIC I don’t even think a couple of you are even Falcon fans< I think your Saints fans that act as Falcon fans.
Subversive from within.
Slow your roll cowboy
I bleed Atlanta red. If you think I’m not a Falcons fan, you’re out of your f**king mind. What I’m saying is this is business. If you think we got bs calls this year, just wait until next season. The refs will be throwing flags any chance they get. Roddy needs to learn that he reflects his team.
And I could care less what he means to team history. Remember what happened to that LB who was synonymous with the Falcons, you know the one from Georgia Tech? TD cut his ass for one mediocre season and a bone headed play in the postseason. I sincerely hope you aren’t a boss somewhere, since you’d probably keep guys at the office who says bone-headed things that reflect your orginization, in which you’d justify with its ok, he’s been the star for years.
Here are some facts for Roddy White: He receives an insane amount of targets. This means that if he can pull in a good share of those balls, his stats will still look decent. Here’s a question for you, when is the last time Roddy made an extremely clutch catch? He made a decent catch against DET this year, but the last insanely clutch catch I remember him having was in 09 against TB when Redman was at the helm.
You are a clown if you believe we shouldn’t cash in on a prime opportunity to cash in more picks on a guy who is 30 and maybe has two good seasons left in him. He has done nothing short of put a target on he and his team’s back.
Really like as a person? WTF? Are you related to Roddy? I have constantly harped on how this city needs less choir boys and more badasses. I like Roddy’s attitude on the field, however he needs to learn there are some people you just don’t take shots at off the field. Unfortunately, his team will be the ones who suffer because of his clown ass.
Oh yeah, it’s really cool how you bolded your words. Really helps send the message home.

You are an idiot to think the refs are gonna blow calls because of Roddy Whites harmless statements, there are cameras you silly man and all calls are reviewed. I’m sure you could care less what he means to the Falcons because your a fake a$$ fan. Brooking left because he would not accept the contract that was offered, he was not cut. Roddy can make the big catch.

Trade time
I believe we could easily get a low 2nd round pick for Roddy, and we need a lot of help. Julio has the skill to easily become a dominant #1, HD has the skill to be the slot, all we need is a new young TE, and a #2.
Roddy has done a lot on the field for this franchise, and in some ways has matured. But at times you just say WTF man.
But...
TD’s strategy in drafting JJ was to have TWO #1 receivers. He doesn’t want a #1 and a #2. That’s why we replaced Michael Jenkins with Julio. It would make no sense to dump Roddy White now that we have a “1A and 1B” receiver. Maybe when Roddy’s older and his contract comes up again, we part ways. But his 2010 season was ABSURD. I’m sure he’ll be back to form this season now that they won’t be trying to force the ball to Julio just to do it (I hope…).
who cares what goodell makes!
Everyone in the nfl makes tons of money. Tok much greed from the players in my opinion. Yes we watch the games because of them but the owners are also in it to make money. I dont question my superiors with how much they make. I signed a contract for a certain amount just as these players have. Play out your contract that you agreed to and quit crying. All the greed only affects us as fans since everything costs so much to go to a game. I cant stand any player, coach, or owner crying bout money. Any one of us would kill just to be on the bench and making league minimum.
by ocfalcon on Feb 14, 2012 8:30 PM EST via mobile reply actions
I don't get all these 'trade Roddy and draft a number 2 reciever!' posts...
Roddy is still an elite receiver, easily one of the best in the league, it was only last offseason he was described as a top 3/4 receiver in the league. Now any WR we draft is gonna be a risk, good college WR’s are not guaranteed to be above average, let alone elite.
Prediction time! Which 2012 rookie reciever will have better numbers or production than Roddy? My guess? None.

The 2010 season
He was the best receiver in the league and only Andre and Fitz would have been ahead of him based on career accomplishments. A slightly down 2011 and a promising rookie season from Julio and we are all ready to dump him over this?? Really?? I agree we won’t find a rookie to replace him and could easily end up searching for a #2 receiver for many drafts again.
by Hutch11 on Feb 14, 2012 11:11 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
And by only Fitz and Andre ahead of him
I mean going into this past season Roddy was the #3 receiver in the league.
do i think this was a smart or necessary comment? No
however I do love it for the mere fact i hate goddell.
To everyone saying we should trade roddy i do agree this is probably when we would get the most value. but we drafted julio so we could have a great # 1 and 2. we trade Roddy and Julio is #1 and again we dont have a #2. So honestly I feel we have a better value in keeping Roddy
I get where he is coming from, don't like the way he responded.
From his POV, he s making the rich richer. As a WR you would think he might get that the lame rules established in the last few years are for him. I really like Roddy. I want him as a Falcon. Knowing his personality, I almost think he was trying to piss someone off. He seems the type to take offense to the JJ deal. Just an opinion and that’s all.
Oh , and take the hate talk to the ATL TATF board where that is the norm. I much prefer this forum because it isn’t here.
