Taking a shot at a mock draft

I have enjoyed pierre02's drafts and I thought I'd take a shot at one. It won't be nearly as good as pierre02's though.

To start off I am going to assume that ATL will address any LT/RG issues through free agency.

1st pick - 2nd round: Ben Jones, C, UGA. McClure is getting to the end of his road and we all saw how poorly the OL played without him in the lineup. I don't feel that ATL has a sucessor to McClure on the roster. Jones is a good pass and run blocker that played very well for UGA and had 35 starts.

2nd pick - 3rd round: Ladarius Green, TE, La-Lafayette. This is TG's last season. Palmer appears to be a good backup but not 1st string caliber in the current NFL passing schemes. Green has good size at 6'6" and 237 pounds and runs a pre-Combine 4.64 forty. He has good, strong hands, runs routes well, is hard to bring down one-on-one and moves well in the open field. He could be a steal in the 3rd round.

3rd pick - 4th round, compensatory pick: Robert Turbin, RB, Utah State. The RB corp needs to start evolving this year. MT is in the last year of his contract, Snellings one year deal is up and Quizz is ready for the future. At 5'9" and 216 pounds Turbin runs a 4.57 40. He tore an ACL in 2010 but came back this season and rushed for 1416 yards and 19 TDs. The year before his injury has had 1296 yards on 209 carries. Both seasons he averaged slightly above six yards per carry. While in college he also caught 66 passes for 838 yards and 11 TD's. His draft analysis looks very good.

4th pick - 5th round: Emmanual Acho, OLB, Texas. Nicholas is not the long term answer at OLB and fs ATL goes to a 3-4 next year they need more athletes at the OLB position. Acho has good size, 6'1", 235 pounds and a 4.79 40. He plays well against the run and against the pass. He is a good tackler and can rush the QB.

5th pick - 6th round: Damien Jackson, FS, Mississippi. He is a bgs FS at 6'2" and 210 pounds. His size would be a compliment to Moore. He is a violent hitter but needs work in pass coverage.

6th pick - 7th round: D'Anton Lynn, CB, Penn State. A tall DB at 6'0" with decent speed but needs work in improving his pass coverage skills.

Alright guys, let me know what y'all think.

You wanna know what I think mwalex??

I think I gotta go but one of those draft magazines so I can join in on the fun and find out who the hell some of these guys are!

Seriously though, I like this mock. The capsules on each player have plenty of info. Really like the 3rd and 4th picks. There seem to be quite a few smaller backs coming out lately and I alway love a back that can catch. The TE Green seems like a safe pick as well, maybe a little filling out, get him up to 245.

I’d be happy with a class like this and I agree, we need to spend a high pick on a lineman, no more digging for buried projects in the late rounds.

You don't really need to buy a magazine

go to sites like CBS sports and start reading over the draft prospects and their draft analysis. There is a TON of information on CBS’s site.

I'm glad you put Robert Turbin and Damien Jackson on here

I was planning another mock draft with him as a potential RB pick for us. He is a stud who has excellent hands (not just for dump offs and screens). Very few RB’s can run WR routes like he can and he has really good speed and cutting ability….I think Jackson is a solid late round pick who can turn into a solid player in the NFL.

Jones & Green 4 Sure.

I Hope Boykin Or Wilson Drops Back A Little Further.. I Doubt It But It Would Be Nice..

I think you hit the nail on the head with the positions of need

I’m not as confident as you that LT will be handled through FA, although I believe we have a starting RG on our roster somewhere (either Jackson or Johnson). If we let DeCoud walk, I think we could address safety in the second or third round. I don’t love the Acho pick, but I am a huge believer in a good rush OLB needing great measurables in the explosive categories (vertical, shuttle, 40, etc). All of these guys are worth keeping an eye on though. Nice job.

Mock draft 2012

I think we address the offensive side of the ball through free agency or in the late rounds. It’s time to build a new defense starting now. New coordinator Mike Nolan will have more imput as compared to BVG. Primary needs include Des,Olb,Cbs,and Safeties. 2 of these defensive players with 1st 2 picks then go after offense.I am and have been a Falcon fan since 1972 and I love watching a good defense. With a pass happy league we need to play better defense. Pas rushers, bigger lbs, good cover cbs,and killer safeties liek Ronnie Lott.

Good Mock

I like the late round picks Jackson and Lynn. I think Green would be a great compliment to Palmer and Gonzo. Plus he is a red zone nightmare. Turbin’s a solid replacement for Snelling if he walks and Jones is the best center prospect outside of Peter Konz,

I must say...

I am satisfied with the pick for TE. I honestly think that Green, though not my favorite pick, is going to have the best stock out of the TE’s available at the time. (Orson Charles is my fave. I am a homer.) The only TE better than him by skill set for size is Dwayne Allen. I honestly don’t think he will be as successful as Green will be though. Green will be a boss on today’s league, just give him a season or two. He has the skill set and ability to be a stud. I think that Green is underestimated b/c of the college he attended.

Lynn

I’ve read more about him recently, I think he’d be a good late selection. He’s bigger and can be physical.

Heck yeah

I love Robert Turbin and Ladarius Green. It would be unfair lining Turbin and Green up against opposing defenses because those two can create sick mismatches..With proper coaching Damien Jackson could be a gem.

Rec'd

Really like the Turbin pick, and not just because his name is fantastic.

I wouldn't be unhappy with Jones at 55

or with any good OL at that number….however…I’m sniffing RB at that pick this year…call me crazy

I see Antoine Smith being let go and / or Mughelli

I think we sign Snell unless someone offers him crazy money. We need to get an everydown back to replace Turner sooner rather than later. RB have a high hit rate of getting a good one in round 2. Unless we can’t fill any OL wholes in free agency then all bets are on OL talent at 55.

Of course after NE's success with multiple receiving TEs there could be a run on them

That’s the wild card on getting a good TE this year. You’ve heard it’s a copy cat league and some GMs may go with the TE du jour.
