How do the Falcons Contain Cam Newton?

Fact: Cam Newton is smelly

Cam Newton rushed for 199 yards against the Falcons in week 4. And that sucked. Apparently he's confident he can replicate that performance this week.

Q. Last time you rushed for 199 yards against the Falcons. Do you think it will be difficult to duplicate that? Will it be hard to have as good of a running game as last time?

A. I’m not sure. I don’t think it will be any problem. We’ve got guys that are hungry to play this game. If we go out and execute then it will be a good day at the office.

I respect his confidence, although his confidence cost them the game week 4. They win but for his fumble late in the fourth quarter. Hold on to the ball Cam, it does wonders.

There are varying opinions about whether it's a good idea to spy Newton. Les Miles famously argued that it wasn't during Newton's infamous senior campaign at Auburn, and we all know how that worked out.

The problem with Newton is simple: he has a great arm. Sure, you can spy him and take that risk, but make no mistake, it is a risk. I'm not sure how the Falcons approach him this week. As I see it, these aren't the same teams that played in week 4. The Panthers have regressed considerably, while the Falcons get better each week.

So what do y'all think? If you're Mike Nolan, what's the plan? Discuss!
