Keep the Challenge Flag in Your Pants

Fact: friends don't let friends throw challenge flags that disallow official review

I saw it. You saw it. Why? Because he did it. Mike Smith threw a challenge flag when he wasn't supposed to - the nerve!

But you have to love his response.

“We have to find a way for the coach not to throw a challenge flag at the wrong time,” Smith said.

You could see Smith trying to recoup his flag shortly after he made the toss.

Yes we do. It was a somewhat comedic moment. For Smith, it was undoubtedly a humbling moment. But no harm no foul. In the grand scheme of things, it just doesn't matter. Smith's leading the least penalized team in the league (the Falcons average just 3.7 per game); he obviously values discipline.

When Smith was asked about the mental blunder during the post-game, he had to say something. In my opinion, what he said was pure genius. I mean, what do you want him to say? "Sorry folks, one too many scotches for this guy last night!" It's almost like he was messing with the media in attendance. Seriously, can you think of a more generic and NFLesque answer to a question?
