I don't know why but there is always somebody, on the team I root for, that I hate. For example, the Braves, I hate Dan Uggla. I hate when he makes stupid defensive plays and struggles to throw the ball to first. I hate when he decides to go on historic slumps. And I hate that we all hope for him to break out and have another hit streak like performance. But I digress. For the Falcons It used to be Brent Grimes in his early years, to Sam Baker until this year, and finally Michael "The Burner" Turner".
Turner started his career in Atlanta with such destructive force that to see him now is an insult to his former self. But, after a couple of years he was never the same. Many people will point to his stats and say that he was among the league leaders in rushing and still had a good average. My response is, so? If you look closely (below) to last year you can see he struggled against good teams.
Last year I joked that his favorite thing to do is run in to the back of his offensive line and wait to he gets tackled. However, that requires getting to the line of scrimmage. This year every time he gains over two yards I shout "Season long!". He just seems so much slower. He no longer has any explosion. What makes his game even worse is that at 250 lbs he ALSO LOST HIS POWER. He now routinely goes down after the first hit. You would think somebody the size of a battering ram can gain one yard when it counts.
Earlier this year I saw somebody comment and say instead of Turner the Burner, he is more like a Crock Pot. I thought this was genius. But after yesterday I found myself repeatedly calling him something else, "Fat F***". Now I want to clear up that I don't hate him really. He is not like a Saints player who I hate their mind body and soul. I'm pretty sure he's a nice person off the football field,
when he's not playing Mario Kart in real life. Hell, I even modeled my facial hair after his. But he cannot continue to put our team in bad situations.
Yesterday the loss was caused by the inability to stop Jimmy Graham, backyard two-hand touch tackling, and Michael "1.2" Turner. Now Mr. 15 on 13 is the blame for several, a few, reasons. 1) having the desire to put us in 2nd in long. 2) getting stopped on third and 1 after we got the pick on drew brees, forcing us to kick a field goal. 3) finally being ineffective at the goal line.
Last year, one of the focus during the offseason was to get better in short yardage situations. Because we all remember what happened on 4th and 1 playing the saints last year. So far the improvements are minimal. We now have Konz in the starting lineup, not baseball I know, but after that I don't see it being possible to make major changes to the oline. I understand the might not be the best run blockers but at this point what can we do? What solutions do you have for the Falcons? And do how do you feel about Turner The
