Would have traded that for the Falcons to NOT look inept today.

Is firings and getting rid of underperforming players. It is. Mularkey must go, at minimum.

The Falcons aren’t so far away that they should be playing like this. The fact that they are is fargin horrible.

How About The Turd We Are Laying?

Looks like another GREAT Falcons flop in the playoffs………what is it gonna take to get these coaches shit together and figure out that when you have a 4th and 1 and about 20 yards out, either play-action or just kick the damned Field Goal. I hope Mularkey does leave and I hope that BVG gets his pink slip in the locker room after the game bc this is one of the worst performances I’ve seen in a long time. At least we scored points last year against the Packers on offense.

BTW- Robinson, when you have MAN-2-MAN Coverage, that means that the man you are covering is not supposed to run for a 72yd TD catch after you are caught napping!!!

I’m not sure what your point is? Brees should have been hit when he was throwing down the field late with a big lead, that’s one of the main reasons why teams usually go into running out the clock mode in those situations.

And yes, I’d ask Matt ryan to his fucking face if he feels like he needed to play better today, and feel no shame about it. Just like I’d ask Mike Mularkey if he regularly drinks bleach.

Honestly, this sums up the season IMO

We have some “bad wins” if you will, and we didn’t pull through when we needed to. Maybe it’s me, but I feel like this team is immature. DB’s celebrating after breaking up passes when down by multiple touchdowns. Rowdy White doing the usual. I just don’t understand. We have the talent, but it’s just not working. Ever since the loss last year against the Packers, Matty hasn’t been the same and this team hasn’t been the same. It just makes me sad.

This team has no guts

They have taken on the personality of the head coach. A nice guy that is overly professional, curteous, conservative.

I am beginning to think Smitty is not the answer.

The offense is a joke. The defense can’t play 4 quarters. We are talented and highly under utilized. We have no fire, and Smith just looks lost in these big games.

Our team has looked overmatched ever time we face a good team.

nj has it right

Look at what we did to them through much of the game. We should be able to win this kinda game with the offense parts we have in place.

The offense going 3 and out over and over puts SOOOOOOOOOO much pressure on the offense. Now, I’m a huge fan of man up, 3-4 style defense but we don’t even have the plays for that. That’d take years to get. We got to work with what we got.

BV called a good game for the majority of the game.

by Stephen Young on Jan 8, 2012 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

Majority of this game, yes.

but looking at the body of work, the Falcons have had identical problems the last 4 years.

Where’s the pass rush? Where’s the turnovers, where’s the everything?

We’ve sold so much of multiple drafts to get better defensive players, brought in big $$$ free agents to address specific issues, but it’s still the same thing

by falconnuke on Jan 8, 2012 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

It's only a 22 point game guys, we got this!

Although as a Falcons fan I guess psychologically I must take some sick pleasure in self inflicted pain or something.

by Turner_The_Burner on Jan 8, 2012 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

That's how MM calls his plays. Depending on where he shoots determines the play called.

See, MM has a Twister mat in the play booth with different plays written on each space. He jacks off on to it and that’s how he picks his plays. Problem is, he always tries to squirt on right hand green on 1st & 2nd downs.

comparision here between the falcons and hawks

is that the hawks atleast under Mike Woodson advanced every year from that prudrid 13 win season to the simi finales in the playoffs. This team IMHO has maxed it potential under the current schemes.

The real problem isn't coordinators or playcalling, its Matt Ryan.

You need someone with some fire, who can put the team on his back at crunch time and lead them. Ryan can’t. He’ll always put up numbers, but he can’t handle pressure.

before the game

I was saying to myself (and I even wrote in one of the threads) that if we do indeed lose, I hope we lose in a blowout. it would be easier to endure a loss like that and not a nail-biting finish when everybody then questions every call.
I still thought we’d win this one though.

Atlanta Falcons fan in Moscow, Russia

by Gemini-RU on Jan 8, 2012 4:18 PM EST reply actions

the reasoning here

is that a nail-biting finish (and a loss) can save the jobs of MM and/or BVG. with a finish like this, that should should not be the case.

In addition, a close loss makes you question every single call and play. and a complete destructions leaves no room for that but for a total clean-up.

MM may be gone anyway. They need a philly dream team style free agency pick ups or its gonna be a few more years.

It will be a dream come true...

if tomorrow I read that Mike Smith was fired along with Dimitroff. This coaching staff is inept at play calling, scheming, and knowing what to do with the talent on this roster. This team is too talented to be this pathetic against good teams. It’s one thing to lose, but to be embarrassed time and time again means something’s gotta change. This coaching staff has consistently been outcoached. …And Dimitroff mortgaging the farm to get one player is ridiculous. I am a fan of JJ, but we needed help all around, not just at the WR position.

Ughhhh

we had been saying here the key to winning would be to play mistake free- no turnovers and few penalties. we had no TOs (except on downs) and had only 15 yds in penalties (compared to the jints 73). and still lost.

1st Post!

sad my first post has to come on such a disappointing day. :(

I just wanted to say that I’ve noticed when Matt Ryan is under pressure, instead of standing tall in the pocket and somehow miraculously avoiding the sack (Like Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady. etc) he immediately flees (some would call it rolling out) to his right, and more often than not throws the ball away. He’’s a good QB, but not great yet.

everyone talks about

the way that MM has brought MR along as a young QB,if you remember 4 years back all we heard about was how MR was such a good game manager but not a great QB yet because he was being brought along slowly and not giving games away by mistakes, well this is the result of MM bringing a QB along, anytime you feel any pressure roll out and throw the ball OB. MR has been programmed to throw sideline patterns where if there is any doubt just overthrow the pass and it will be incomplete OB. The only problem with this thinking is that even if the pass is complete your receiver is trapped against the sideline and have a very low YAC.
