Falcons-Giants Third Quarter Open Thread
The score is 7-2, somehow. The Falcons have played one of their best defensive halves of the season and one of the worst offensive halves, capped off by some of the worst clock management you'll ever see.
They're still very much in the game, these Falcons, and they have the ball after the half. Plenty of time to turn it around, and all the incentive in the world to do it. Stay optimistic.
GO FALCONS!

Alright
Getting the ball back. I know it’s hard, but everyone chill. We get the ball, it’s only 5 points. Some White or Jones magic, a pick, anything can completely change this game. Just stay positive, it’s frustrating as hell but let’s just keep in it guys. Coaching has been questionable at best and awful at worst, but let’s just chill and see how the second half pans out.

How we act has nothing to do with what happens on the field

I know but it sure makes it more pleasant for everyone here if we're not making a suicide pact at halftime in a 1 score game

Who's making suicide pacts?
Fans boo performances like this. Zero offensive points against these guys.

Our CS is playing without balls and our O hasn’t taken any shots downfield. Reason to worry.

Our best offensive play
Has been Julio getting YAC on a short throw. He’s been doing that all season. Why are we not throwing more of those routes to him and Douglas?
I don’t know…
I also haven’t seen any thows over 10 yards from scrimmage. It’s maddening. I know they do a great job of getting pressure, but let’s have a little max protect play action down the field to Julio or Roddy
You'd think I was Travis Tritt struttin my FINE ASS on down to Florida
this
there were multiple times that that would’ve been perfect… and it never happens
The only bad thing about doing that is that we’d be throwing into double coverage. Birds have to run the ball on this opening drive to bring that SS down.
You'd think I was Travis Tritt struttin my FINE ASS on down to Florida
true
but JJ vs double coverage of weak secondary, I’ll take JJ
You're not going to find a weaker opponent in the NFC
than the Giants. Zero points against them?

Our online
Cant block long enough for the pass and hey cant open holes for the run. Combine that with the fact that if Turner has to make even one cut and he is done. Our stats as a running team are all smoke and mirrors.
I can’t believe that the loss of Dahl on our line has caused this many issues.
I thought the O-line has done well
Only one sack? Matt has to hit the receivers and make better throws.

But I have designed my own offense, a reverse wishbone I call the “Diamondback” offense.
I’d love to get into coaching, but I’m not assertive enough in my personality for college or pros. I’m not physically intimidating either, so dudes twice my size wouldn’t take me seriously.
Would love to, though.

This is the biggest play of the game
Again, this isn't great defense
But the Falcons could have 28 points by now if they could just get it going on offense.

This is embarrassing. All week I’ve been saying and thinking “We’re better than the Giants, we’re going to win this game.”
And on the national stage… we’ve put up 2 points, 0 offensive points and now our d is getting run over by a team that can’t run the ball.
Embarrassing.
You'd think I was Travis Tritt struttin my FINE ASS on down to Florida
We ARE better...but we also suck in big games
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.
So
I’m NOT proposing that we do this, just wondering about perception. If we were to put Ryan on the market right now, what do you think we could get picks-wise?

Not too much
Not a reaction to this game, just think teams would rather get their own QB and teach them their system from scratch.

That's my thinking.
We have a mid-round talent that we took #3 overall.

but this is too much.
Atlatna Sports Teams
Doing just well enough to get in to a position to embarrass themselves on a big stage since 1996.
Q: If not us, who? If not now, when? A: The Batman. And "when you least expect it."
Well, not mediocre
Which means average to below average.
Just not great.
We’re a good team in a league that requires greatness.
Actually it doesn't.
'There are two pains in life. There is the pain of discipline and the pain of disappointment. If you can handle the pain of discipline, then you'll never have to deal with the pain of disappointment,'- Nick Saban
Mediocre adj
of moderate or low quality, value or ability.
Having a winning record means we’re not a mediocre team. We’re a good team. Which means shit come the playoffs
I meant the requiring greatness part.

Name a team that won a Super Bowl
Without some true greatness. Like Harrison’s fumble return TD. Eli’s pass against the Pats. Anything Montana did.
Good teams don’t win Super Bowls.
Eli's pass was luck.
That was not a great team, neither were the Pack last year with all the injuries. A Sb requires you to play well at the right time.

New Orlean, Green Bay and New England..
have proven that it is no longer good D that is important in this new NFL: of protect the receiver from hits. Our D is decent enough now we need to figure out . Do we need a new scheme to fit our pieces or a new pieces to fit our old scheme.
Unlike others I still belive in Defense
but im slowly losing hope looking at the landscape of the NFL
The only thing that really matters on defense any more is a pass rush and short yardage situations, you basically have to pressure the other QB in to making a mistake and be able to get them off the field when you have the chance.
