Falcons-Giants Second Quarter Open Thread
The score is 0-0 and the Falcons are driving. Now fourth and inches with a chance to either convert or kick a long field goal and take the lead.
It's been a hell of a struggle so far. Let's see what the second quarter brings.

Why can't we run draw plays on reasonable downs and situations?
Even if that worked like it could have, at beast we’re getting 10 yards and still punting.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

Draws don't work on run downs.
'There are two pains in life. There is the pain of discipline and the pain of disappointment. If you can handle the pain of discipline, then you'll never have to deal with the pain of disappointment,'- Nick Saban
They actually can in this league
Every down has become a passing down. All it takes is just a little deception, just that slight hesitation as they read the blocking and have time to think “pass” before you run the ball.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

Ah yes, the old fall-back of stupid sports arguments

Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

Don't hate if you can't do it.
That’s all I’m saying.

You really should have avoided that pitfall, though. It's a lame, lame argument
Lots of guys CAN throw the ball 70 yards, and can’t play QB as well as Matt Ryan. You really shouldn’t have done that direction.
I can appreciate that Matt Ryan is a quality QB and still wish he could throw harder and farther, though.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
No.
It’s not a lame argument, because all it does is call out people for being haters. It’s one thing to call someone weak if they truly are weak. It’s another to call them weak if you can’t do it either. That’s being hypocritical.
If you’re going to stand for someone who probably can’t throw 70 yards trash another man because he is physically unable to throw 70 yards, then what does that say about you?
I don’t play silly games on the internet. People hide behind their computer screens and say whatever they want, but I don’t play that game.

I would never get past the Giants offensive line, but I expect our D-line to do it, just saying

This too
I mean, it’s like saying, “You don’t have the right to be upset at your team.” What the hell is fandom without it?
Q: HOW DO WE ONLY HAVE 2 POINTS?
A: I bet you couldn’t score two points on the Giants.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
Apples to oranges.
He openly hated on Matt’s arm. You asked why we only have two points.

That was the worst effort at the end of the first half I've ever watched.
Do we seriously become stupid in important games? Like, is there a switch that we turn off that makes us dumb? Holy hell.

A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.
No good in trailing
we have to adjust our sights
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.
Deepest pass all day at end of half
can we find an NFL offense please?
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.
Just for once
if we lose, I want it to NOT be because we beat ourselves
Alrighty
Getting the ball back. I know it’s hard, but everyone chill. We get the ball, it’s only 5 points. Some White or Jones magic, a pick, anything can completely change this game. Just stay positive, it’s frustrating as hell but let’s just keep in it guys. Coaching has been questionable at best and awful at worst, but let’s just chill and see how the second half pans out.

That was alwful
That’s Atlanta
Team is playing not to lose
They are playing scared…

WHAT THE FUCK.
Smitty and Ryan!!!!! If we lose this game major changes need to be made. ASAP. You’ve had twice to learn Smitty.

WTF!!!
Poor clock management, we havent even challenge them deep

Only down by 5
Only allowed one TD. Bright side!
Got to raise your level of expectations buddy
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.
hey!
we’re only down five and we get the ball chill
I think we should realistically look at the game
For the fact we are down by 5, and we recieve the ball at half?
This team has come back from down two scores, so I think everyone need to take a deep breath.
This coaching staff has done a terrible job this game
I am beginning to believe that Mike Smith is not a strong enough coach
We're being out coached by the time clock operator.

I am just boggled at the clock management
I really really don’t understand why you don’t at least try and get into FG range with THREE FREAKING TIMEOUTS. Good lord

Damnit Smitty. Get it together jackass.

what was the commercial about?
was it quiktrip?

this is ugly
If this is playoff football, I hope we limit the embarrassment. That is my hope. No getting blown out, please.
Wake up people....
Our offense has scored 0 points!
The Giants are a good D, but they are not elite.
Think about it…our offense, with our weapons, has ZERO POINTS!
PATHETIC
Watch
this performance will convince the Falcons that BVG is improving and will also convince other NFL teams not to hire MM and we’ll be stuck with both of them again next year.
Offense is failing
Can we just higher Al Davis to be the OC. We haven’t gone verticle in years.
Perilously close to a 2007 style depression.
I just pictured that.
I imagined them showing Al Davis’s casket in the booth with a headset on top of it. I laughed.

It seems like
They didn’t call a TO to make sure the Giants didn’t get the ball back. With 31 seconds left in the half. Smith really has faith in this defence….
Third quarter thread is up

Our online
Cant block long enough for the pass and hey cant open holes for the run. Combine that with the fact that if Turner has to make even one cut and he is done. Our stats as a running team are all smoke and mirrors.
I can’t believe that the loss of Dahl on our line has caused this many issues.
the o-line did a great job of pass blocking on one of the best pass rushing units in the nfl
its not their fault we NEVER even attempted a downfield pass

this
the entire offense is based on short passes & running, so they’re not even respecting the deep pass
I'd be fine with a West Coast offense,
But we’re throwing short, low % plays. Total fail. Again I say: I love Julio, but if you don’t change the playcalling, then you wasted some picks on a possesion reciever.

help me out here
A coach can get a penalty called 4 minutes after the fact and MM is not even paying attention to this game when he calls his plays?
Dont cloud the issue with facts!
