New York Columnist: City Of Atlanta Doesn't Deserve Falcons Playoff Win
A gentleman named Rob Parker, who apparently was once fired after calling Atlanta hero Hank Aaron a "coward" for refusing to honor Barry Bonds, has written some bulletin board material at ESPN New York.
It's important for us to have bulletin board material, you see, so that we may yell at our televisions with more vigor.
Are the haters mad, friends? The haters are inconsolable. Pray for the haters.

Peoppe hate him…it’s not just falcons fans. Go read his Wikipedia and go to the controversies column, this guy is a pure idiot. How he has a job, much less at ESPN, is beyond me.

*Saints fans* are sticking up for Atlanta. This is all anyone needs to know.

ESPN doesn't look into their writers.
They just take a guy with a degree and a keyboard regardless of his intelligence level or the research he does. Why ESPN continues to be the premier sporting site while sites like PFF, FO, and SBNation continue to be the side projects is completely beyond me. It’s obvious where good sporting news comes from.

Im not
Thats nyorkers for ya. they need that article in print so all the gints fans feel better.
Now Gentlemen, get your butts up, and get back on that horse! You have no choice. The expectations are running much higher this year.

It's not that simple
I really really doubt any Giants fans actually agree with this guy. He doesn’t speak for anyone but himself with this one, he’s a shock journo paid to attract attention, be it negative or positive. Wouldn’t be putting too many NYG fans in the ‘supporters’ group just yet.

I can speak for SBNation
in that it is independently owned, like Bleacher Report.
It’s something like that, but it’s got some kind of different ownership than ESPN/Yahoo/CBS does.
However, SBN is growing very, very rapidly.

Wow
I thought I hated this guy before. I’ve seen him on First Take, he is an idiot and a complete homer for teams he likes. He’s also a race baiter (and I do not throw that term out lightly). Any and all criticism of black athletes to him always comes back to race. He’s a fool and a tool.
"People in this country used to look at a successful person and ask what can I do to have that kind of sucess. Now a lot of people look at a successful person and ask what can I do to take what he has."

But I just saw him on First Take and he picked the Falcons to win
So that's something right?

Well....
If atlanta fans were so bad it would be understandable AKA look at the Hawks/Thrashers. I’m pretty sure that ownership group is the worst thing for Atlanta sports. Even worse than the Vick scandal.
But we aren’t the worse sports fans, so fuck that guy
So, it's official!!

And I liked Parker 2
but he says stupid stuff. He is biased and from Det but is a closet GB fan? And NY fan. So fuck em.
Y'all should check out his Wikipedia page
if you want a good laugh. Probably only a matter of time til the page gets locked down, but it’s still worth it.

They pulled off the funny stuff from Wiki
Occupation :Bigot
On January 4th, 2012 during a taping of “ESPN first take”, Parker criticized the New England Patriots along with Tom Brady, calling them “fraudulent”. In doing so, he successfully completed a feat only dreamed of, making Skip Bayless look like the smartest guy in the room.
Also they had something about him getting destroyed by Atlanta fans.

I mean...
It was mentioned above that Miko Grimes agrees with him, and I do think there is some validity to what he writes (minus the blatant “hurr durr” generalization hate)
I’ve personally said fans were an issue before. Not in a hateful way, but Atlanta fans are known for what? Showing up late, leaving early, etc. Now, I can also attest to the clusterfook of traffic that is Atlanta, which probably is part of the reason why people show up late/leave early. Lot of away fans deal with it too and some of them come in droves. That’s also probably due to the fact that Atlanta is a transplant city and you have fans of teams like the Packers/Steelers/etc that don’t suck, which would cause those fans to not embrace the team that’s already there.
But not deserving a championship? This city might deserve a championship more than any other city except for maybe Cleveland. I mean, when you deal with “Same old this” and “same old that” for 40+ years, you kinda lose the heart to get your hopes up in crunch time.
We might not deserve multiple championships, but geez, at least let us have one.

One must first answer the following question:
What is an Atlanta Sports Fan? It seems like every game I go to, most of the other “fans” I speak to are transplants with allegiances to the teams from their town of origin (the exception to this would be Falcons games). Isn’t that what Atlanta is? A city of transplants? Separate out the transplants and you are left with one of the most longsuffering sports populations in… well, the history of sports. I’d say a certain amount of lackadaisical fandom is warranted. I guess we’ll have to apologize for not living up to his idea of New York’s standards, a metropolis with ten times the population, teams with 100 times the fanbase, team histories that stretch through parts of three centuries, and a city where championships are bought and sold on the street corners by the same guys who can get you a “genuine” Rolex for twenny-fi dollas.

My problem with the article isn't him saying fans in Atlanta don't care
which from a lot of stuff I’ve heard on this site may be true. What pisses me off is that he says all Atlanta sports fans are like that, even fans who don’t live in Atlanta. I don’t even live in the same damn country but the Falcons are possibly the most important sports team in my life. I know when every game is. I take time to know about every player and learn asmuch about the franchise I love as i can. For this guy to come out and tell me MY team doesn’t deserve even a playoff win people its fans don’t care… Well that is just the worst argument for anything sports related I’ve ever heard! He is not just insulting the fans from Atlanta, but every fan in the entire world and all the players. It makes me sick to think this was allowed to be published on what is supposed to be a reputable site.
Are you cam newtons dad?
If so we will pay you 1 million to sit down with the commish to secure a Superbowl win for the falcons, this year.

Rob Parker
Is just another typical person from the sports establishment preferring many spoiled northeastern teams and much of California. I am not surprised he wrote an article to the deteriment of the underdog professional sports teams in the Southeast.
It’s funny he thinks Championship-less teams from Atlanta are spoiled, when teams from LA, New York, and Boston can just buy Championships taking all-stars from the Southeast and small markets-without the hard work of rebuilding.
For a great example, just look at the national media establishment hyperventilating last month about the Lakers having to wait for another Finals appearance-so they are “entitled” to Championship-less Orlando’s Dwight Howard. Chris Paul was sent from NBA Championsip-less New Orleans to the “superior” LA.

Anyway
tried to delete 1st post but did not feel like reading the manual.
This douche bag is just trying to create a career by using shock jock tactics. I let him know what I thought about him on his twitter page. Twitter has been on him all day. I called him words that I can not post here but rest assured his intimate relationship with Skippy Bayless was brought to light as well as any and all oral talents he may possess.
What made it worse
was that he made it sound like it was personal, saying things like “They probably don’t even know when the game is” like what the hell, you really think any Falcons fan doesn’t know when the ball game is on Sunday?
Then of course, the Southern stereotypes.
I’d give him the what for if I ever met him. :/

He was
born in Queens, NY so…of course he’s gonna bash the south. I let him know that if he would inform me of his next trip to the A we could meet up and I could replace what Skip Bayless is serving him with my size 13 boot. I’m pretty sure it would fit like a glove.

Giants fan here
Rob Parker is a moron. Trust me, in no shape or form does he represent anything NY. Everybody hates him here too, as far as I know. Like someone said above, Skip Bayless looks like a respectable genius on First Take when he debates against Parker, and we all know Bayless is insane.
lol
So I went to ESPN to cancel my services and send them an email...
I wrote a substantial message, went to submit, and got the message “you can’t continue, we suspect you to be a bot.” Yeah, so they don’t care what we think apparently.
Got the same message too, despite having an account for 2 years
So here it is;
Rob Parker’s article entitled ‘The City of Atlanta is the worst sports town in America’ was an absolute disgrace. I love ESPN, and visit the site daily. As a Falcons fan, the ESPN NFC South page is my homepage on my cell internet page. I will no longer be using this website until Rob Parker apologises for his comments in the aformentioned article. The article was filled with sweeping generalisations and poorly researched ‘facts’. He cited the Braves as having poor attendance, yet they have drawn the 2nd and 3rd ranked crowd league wide since 1999. He said Falcons fans may not know when the game is on, yet the ATL GB playoff game last year sold out in 6 minutes. The article seemed like more of a personal attack than an attempt at credible journalism, and as such I will not continue my readership of this great site until Parker acknowledges the generalisations and plain lies stated in this article.

I think ESPN just put the whole city of Atlanta on lockdown.
They aren’t the type of network to actually take responsibility for their content. But, Turner_the_Burner, that is an awesome letter. Are you HarrisonN17 on Twitter?
Rob Parker did not respond to the open letters my daughters wrote to him, either. My 13 year old ripped his southern stereotypes, and my 12 year old jumped on the fact that maybe it’s not such a shocker that a southern city in a warm climate lost a hockey team with terrible ownership to Canada. My kids are really smart (if I do say so myself), but it’s still very telling when two children can dismantle Rob Parker’s entire argument against Atlanta.
