Mike Tolbert as Turner's Replacement?
Any opinions or rumors on Mike Tolbert coming to Atlanta? He's a free agent, and he is a younger Turner that can catch. Stats, details, etc. at http://www.fantasyfootballmetrics.com/blog/
I'm a big believer that now is the time to deal Turner or at least go two a RB system similar to New Orleans. Rodgers is a cheap, less talented Sproles. Turner is comparable to Ivory/Ingram. I believe Snelling can be as good at PT if given the opportunity. With respect to the above order, I like a 30/30/40 split, personally. So if we end up loosing Snelling or Turner, should we try to go after Tolbert instead of trying to take a chance on a draft pick that we need to spend elsewhere.

I bet he's on a lot of teams' radar
He is essentially a Turner who can catch the ball. He can definitely fit in ATL if we decide to move in a different direction from Turner.
Hop from a brusing FA Charger running back in 2008 to another one in 2012?
Naw, I’d like to move in a different direction
Atlanta Sports: Allergic to big games
He's my neighbor's cousin so I'd love the deal.
From douglasville GA. I’d be getting free club level tix all the damn time.

Have Tolbert and Turner in the back?
Thats like peanut butter on peanut butter. There basically the same player unless your suggesting we line Tolbert up as FB on certain plays.
Tolbert is more of a passing threat than Turner. Regardless, 150 carries split between two of the same is equal to if not better than another 300 carries for Turner. It isn’t really viable to replace Snelling with Tolbert unless Tolbert comes, cheaper. The advantage to replacing Turner with Tolbert is the contract. I have no hard data, but I seriously doubt Tolbert gets a 7 million a year deal.
Good points on the cost
as Tolbert was $1.83MM and Snelling was $1MM. Replacing MT with Tolbert would save money but there is little difference between Tolbert and Snelling to date based on performance. That could change if Tolbert had more carries.
Having Tolbert and Snelling,
based on both their numbers, on the roster are one in the same. How can MT and Tolbert be “peanut butter and peanut butter” when he is supposedly a better receiver? Those are the accolades that Snelling gets, not a better runner but a better receiver.
This team seems to have many deja vu situations...

Aw, I don’t want Tolbert to leave the Chargers, Mathews always seems to get injured so Tolbert would provide good depth. Plus I love seeing his TD dance

Splitting carries is not desireable
The Saints RB situation is not something to aspire to.It is a major source of frustration for them. They drafted Ingram hoping to have a clear #1 RB.They were dissatisfied with Thomas.Ivory is a practice squad caliber player. The Saints deperately want Ingram to step up to be the man.The team hates the situation as it is and other than Sproles, the players hate it.They hated their RB situation enough that they used a 1st round draft pick on a RB instead of trying to help an aging defense.
Tolbert is an outstanding player. But he wont be a cost savings. He’s looking to get paid and for opportunity just the same as Turner was a few years ago.
I would be in favor of looking to Free Agency for a RB when Ben Tate goes on the market.
I agree sort of
It is nice to have a guy you can depend on plus one or two others that can step in and give him a break or be a change of pace. But Ivory isn’t a practice squad player and is probably their best runner, he just can’t pass block at all.
doesn't truly blow me away.
I would hate to think we’d trade Turner, and sign Tolbert. The move doesn’t blow me away, especially while we have Snelling on the bench. If the Falcons truly wanted to pursue a Star Runner, there are better options out there as well as a draft they can shift through. Would be tragic to see Turner and Snelling both leave, and sign Tolbert.

Have watched Tolbert quite a few times as he was on my super duper fantasy team
He’s definitely a hard runner, doesn’t mince about in the backfield or try to stretch the play when the hole isn’t big enough thus taking a two yard loss instead of a two yard gain. But he can be brutally average at times, breaking off one and two yard runs multiple times(sound familiar?)a game. He is a great receiver though, knocks guys over and keeps the legs churning even when going down, trampling his tackler while gaining a couple more yards. He’s very fluid in his catching ability, grabs it and goes in one motion.
The only way i see this making sense is if both MT and Snelling are gone and Tolbert and Quizz are the 1,2 attack. It would free up some money but i dont see it as a huge improvement. Kinda like trading a quarter for 3 dimes. Someone really has to teach Turner that the football, when thrown to him isn’t trying to impale him. I know he had a career high in receptions but a one catch a game average isn’t gonna change the way people defend against us. I don’t think he’s going anywhere but I hope that this new staff realizes you may want to mix things up a bit in this NFL.
I don't like the idea...
of getting Tolbert. He just isn’t a player with alot of desirables. He is too chunky for me. (hahah) I am only kidding. Really he is just one big power runner, and don’t get me wrong, the Falcons have had success with former Chargers RBs (for some DA, The Burner). But this team needs to go in a different direction. Power runners are no longer as big of an asset in today’s league. Back in the 70’s and 80’s, hell yeah you needed a power runner. But in today’s pass league, you need a speed back that can break the tackles that should be broken i.e. Adrian Peterson. Tolbert-esque players are starting to become dinosaurs in the NFL. [just my two cents]

Turner is and was
waaaaayyyyyyyy better than Tolbert. The only comparison is they are bigger backs from SD.
The ONLY advantage that Tolbert has over MT
might be his ability to catch the ball. While their catch rate for last year was about the same the ball was thrown to Tolbert many more times.
Jerious Norwood's available....OH SNAP..yeah I said it
LOL JUST KIDDING
