Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Hail Georgia cornerback Brandon Boykin, he of the 80-yard touchdown run against Boise State that had an entire press box fumbling for Chick-fil-A-greased roster sheets in wonder.

If I may Grude out for a moment, THIS GUY is a guy who could help the Falcons in ALL THREE PHASES of the game. ATL almost certainly won't end up drafting him, because nothing ever happens like that, but it's a fun idea, and he's the first on the interviewee board that we know about.

2nd or 3rd rounder?

It looks like he may be around by the time we pick, but I’m sure OL or DL is higher on the list.

I think it depends on who walks

If the Falcons lose Grimes, they may be sorely tempted to get a guy like Boykin who has enormous upside and could contribute right away. This is Chris Owens’ shot, but if he should fall flat on his face, the team has a depth issue at corner.

Still agree that the lines are probably a higher priority.

Minimum $24 million before they up the cap space

Blank said that the cap space should be raised some this year too. So conservatively I’d put it in the $26 million range.

He could help us cap wise.

He could immediately replace Weems (1mil last year, FA this year I think). Plus, he is quality depth if Owens/Franks is our starter next year. Grimes will probaly cost us 5-6 million a year to resign. So, he could be drafted at 2 and free up money for a FA OL/DL. Sounds like a winner to me.

HD, Franks, Quizz, Cone

Are some of the players who could replace Weems.

More then ever, I can see the Falcons trading for 3rd round picks. Brandon Boykin, Orsen Charles and Ben Jones could all be there (Though I fully expect Jones to go in the 2nd round). I’m not such a homer that I need UGA players to be draft by the Falcons but it does happen enough to think about.

I think we should go TE in the second unless

We could land cb Janoris Jenkins. Any Chance he could slip to us?

No way

Some mocks have him going in the top 20. Unless he shoots up a strip club or we trade up. We won’t have a chance at him.

He could also fit in 5 Wideout sets on Offense

KIDDING…mostly but he could…he’s a baller straight up and would help that 2ndary regardless of his extra value as a return man / backup WR.

Poster on the AJC under DLed's article said the following

Scout in 2011 said that Boykin doesn’t have the strength for stopping the run or for press coverage. He excels in loose man coverage. Knowing how Nolan likes his corners to play more aggressively I’d say we arent’ drafting Boykin. Doesn’t mean we WON’T if they feel he can play in nickleback sets because he is shutdown in loose man. We’ll see. I’d say the odds are low based on how Nolan likes his corners to play.

He is a playmaker though when the balls in the air

Some things you just can’t teach. He’s like a Mo Pete in coverage. You look at his “skill set” and say he has some holes, but you look at how he always ends up on big plays and say…how do you measure that. He’s just a ball player.

The more I see him the more I like him

He is one of the most versatile players in the draft playing DB, KR, and some WR as well. He would be a nice pick up especially if we move DR to FS.
