49ers-Giants NFC Championship Open Thread
Basically, this is the NFC version of the game you just watched. One team that's mostly offense versus a team that's mostly defense.
Still, I think you could make the reasonable argument that these teams are a little more balanced. The 49ers showed they could hang in with the high-octane Saints last weekend, while the Giants played pretty good defense against both the Packers and Falcons.
I'm actually looking forward to watching this one. Hope you'll join me in tracking all the action and sharing here at The Falcoholic.

one question guys...
Why wasn’t that a touchdown catch my Lee Evans? I thought da play was over when da ball break da plain with posession
by jgreedy on Jan 22, 2012 6:23 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Only took one step I think- didn't complete the catch is what they call it nowadays. But it should have been a TD
by The_Falconer on Jan 22, 2012 6:24 PM EST up reply actions
Because as his second foot hit, the ball was knocked out
I think that’s the correct call. He was still “in the act” of making the catch in that situation.

Wandered over to the raven blog. Didn't post anything. Anger and sadness reign
Guys threatening to shoot each other while debating if it was the holders fault.
It was a good hold.
He just hooked the kick.
BUT how about Belichick not icing the kicker? BB was very smart in that situation because Cundiff was rushing out to the field to get the kick off, and he rushed the kick because of it.

I agree, he pulled it badly. But why didn't the ravens call a timeout instead of rushing him out there?
if he missed it then Ravens would be lambasted for icing their own kicker.

And my crotch grab celebration should be grandfathered in.Why are they still kicking me out of the Dome for that.
Remember back in the 80's when WR's used to wear scuba gloves in the days before receiver gloves?
I wonder if they would be better in the rain than these new fangled WR gloves. Receiver glove get pretty damn slick when they’re wet.
If anything, this season shows how bad a coach Mike Singletary was.
And to think, some wanted him as the Falcons head coach. How much would that have sucked?

In the case of a muffed punt, it is possible for the punting team to recover the ball and continue the drive, but at least in NCAA and NFL rules, they cannot advance the ball on that same play.

I can say that there’s no excuse. If the man ahead of you goes down, you have to step up and be ready, even if you have little reps. The backups get reps in practice, so it’s not like he went in totally cold.
Next man up, as they say.
But I feel bad for the guy. The weather was awful and he got the short end of the stick as far as the position he was in. You’ve gotta make that play, though.

Niners and Ravens
Definately would have been a more fan-friendly sexier matchup in superbowl 46, and very much would have like that intrigue, but larger tv markets always win out.
So the rematch is on.
BTW is the superbowl hangover still in effect?
