Falcons' OL Coach Boudreau Will Not Return For 2012 Season
At this rate, Smitty might be the only returning coach when all is said and done.

Not very surprising
Given the rotating failure at the RG position, the collapse of Sam Baker’s career, and finishing in the bottom 20% of the league in rush blocking (in a supposed ‘run-first’ offense), Boudreau had a tough sell to get the Front Office to keep him around.
Not entirely shocked
Boudreau did a good job of producing a line that was built for the running game, but the line failed to adapt and build around a franchise QB. The 2011 season made it very apparent that the line was not built for a modern NFL offense.
Agreed!
The OL failed to Run Block efficiently, the rushing numbers get inflated because of the Long Runs towards the end of the game by MT.

OL is a big concern.
Fair Enough he is gone after a poor showing by OL.The first three games the receivers tried to run deep routes and Matt got hammered. Only after adjusting the scheme for Run and pound, the sack count came down. But through out the season the OL didn’t give Matt even 3 seconds to throw the ball.

Tough situation
Boudreau did his best while here. The Falcons used a top 3 draft pick on Ryan, and did their best using a 1st round selection on Baker. The rest of the line were reaches with Reynolds, Hawley being late round draft picks for versatlity as well as other free agent signings, Romberg and Svitek. I wish him the best.

Not everyone will be gone
Tim Lewis will still be here as DC.

Will kill any positive vibes the FO has built up in the young offseason

Why?
Because he was a secondary coach?

This is a bittersweet move
Boudreau did a whole lot with the middling talent handed to him. The line was consistently lauded as “overachieving”, and most of that credit should go to Boudreau. That being said, the line play was poor this year (whatever the reason) and so it’s not a bad idea to try someone else out. Tom Cable and (possibly soon to be fired) Juan Castillo have both served as offensive line coaches and might be worth a look.
