Dirk Koetter To Bring Screen Pass Attack To Falcons
Whatever a "screen pass" is, Mike Smith wants Dirk Koetter to run it next year. In his introductory press conference, Koetter also mentioned using a no-huddle. Combine all that with his clear love for the deep ball, and Atlanta's offense does appear to be at least schematically more explosive.

Screen Pass
Hmmm, so part of this guy’s attraction, sounds like a large part, is he would run some screens??
That is revolutionary. With that kind of cutting edge thinking, nobody is going to touch us next year.
You can’t ever tell on these things, but when his most favorable attribute is he didn’t have talent in J’ville, one would think they would have gone in another direction.
It's still not knocking my socks off
But I do like the hire.
In a way, it’s incredibly sad that we’re this pumped about a guy who promises to call things any coordinator with common sense would be doing.

Agreed.
Like a neglected child, even a hug from creepy Uncle Jethro is welcomed.

Meh...
I couldn’t care less who’s brought in here.
Results will excite way more than “splashy” hires.
Who’s the perfect O.C. for OUR team? Serious question. Who would be the perfect candidate, and why? Nobody knows, for, ultimately, it’s guess work.
Who’s to say Koetter isn’t the best possible hire?
GATA!
I'm actually starting to warm up to the Koetter hire
He seems like a smart play caller from everything I read and just listening to him.
suddenly
I’m beginning to like this guy, even though his words might sound too obvious.
I actually think our offense will do well under the new OC. Koetter will have most of that offense back + some new blood in the Oline (hopefully) – in that regard his job will be easier compared to DC’s. and if our offensive problems were due to playcalling (as 99% of the readers here acknowledge) then we should be fine in a very short period of time.

So if Mike Smith recognized the screen issue
it’s safe to say that he probably took notice of other issues we fans noticed throughout the season. I don’t think we need to worry about Dirk, guys. I think he’ll prove he’s a good choice.

has anybody thought about the biggest problem with this hire!!!!!
How can Dave write such funny, but probably true, stories without the two main characters? No more spoon throwing I guess :(

Oh, don't worry
I’m sure the new guys will give me material.

Looking at his concepts on offense...
His offense is nothing like MM. He like 3 WR sets. He prefers a HB to a FB (yes, there is a difference). Most of his runs are traps, stretches, and draws, not power runs. His running game isn’t all finesse like the zone blocking scheme we had with Gibbs per se, but more like the Colts in that it’s predicated upon what the defense shows. The OL still down block and the HB will serve the role of the FB as a lead blocker if the QB sees 7 in the box and checks into that type of play. I can see the Falcons moving to a no-huddle full time. For people thinking this is more of the same, hold on you butts, this might be a wild ride…
BTW, people calling for us to move Turner had a legit argument. Snelling and Quiz will both be a much much better fit for this system because of their style of running. They are one cuts back that patiently let the play develop, plant their foot and hit the hole, as opposed to the bulldozer that Turner is. Sadly the Burner is gonna feel like a fish out of water in thise system…
There is no 'u' in awesome, but there is a "me". Deal with it...
“the HB will serve the role of the FB as a lead blocker”
As in 2 HBs in the backfield?
I’d wet myself to see Snell and Quiz in there together. 2 completely differently sized backs who run completely differently, can both catch, and in Snells case is an above average lead blocker.

No, a half back in this system isn't a running back like you would think of one...
It’s more like a bigger TE…

Think Tebow, essentially

Heard on 790 the Zone in ATL
today that Falcons should have their DC today and could announce it tommorow! Could be hearsay but it came from Dave Archer who does play by play with Wes.
nom nom nom...who is it?!?!
Braves.
Falcons.
Gamecocks.
50/50
Spags or Nolan. Calling one of the two now.

Brian Van Gorder
Changes his mind within one week of the hire to get more money from the Falcons and comes back.
Plus you heard the rumor start here….It may be Nick Saban.
Spags
I’m going all in. I think Blank understands that we need to really make a splash in coaching to appease the fans. And Spags is that splash.

Nolan to me would be more solid
We would definately have a better pass defense, and our rush D is pretty good too.
Maybe sacks will modesty go up.

Can we hire both?
As co-coordinators?

Imma just leave this here.

I wish DOL would learn that he does not
have to yell every time he is in a conference call. Jeez !! He seems to think that if he yells into the phone his words will travel farther.
