Patriots-Broncos Playoff Open Thread

Less thrilling than Niners-Saints for the average Falcons fan, but still could be a good game.

In one corner, you have the high-powered Patriots offense, led by Tom Brady and the incredible Rob Gronkowski. They pair that offense with one of the worst pass defenses in NFL history, and a run defense that's only marginally better.

In the other corner, Tim Tebow and his weird powers of winning. The Broncos run well and can get after the passer, but on paper this should be a game the Patriots win easily.

Root for who you will.

I'm ecstatic!!!!

Since our beloved birds are no longer in the hunt for the SB this year, I am officially pulling for The 49ers to win it all. I guess they stole my heart by stomping all over Drew Brees’s heart. You got to love that!!!!

No but it's not magic

people who don’t understand the Christian religion don’t understand that God doesn’t perform magic. He won’t snap his fingers and make everything sunshine and rainbows. It doesn’t work that way, which is why even us blessed Americans still have it rough sometimes. That’s the key. You can’t hate on something without an understanding of it, else that makes you an ignorant hater, the worst kind.

But you are right, corrupt bigwigs and horrid governments make things a hell of a lot harder to fix, especially in the poorer countries.

It'd be hilarious and sad if they were unhappy with him.

The crowd was chanting for him.

John Elway was just beginning to have faith in him

Not sure what this debacle will do for that.

Tebow is struggling

but this is team failure.

It's a good thing they intercepted Brady

To keep his passer rating below that 158.3 mark.

Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

I root for Tebow just because so many people say he can't be successful

But I can’t imagine that Denver doesn’t bring in a quality veteran to challenge him next year. He either has to show insanely improved passing skills in training camp, or he is going to be replaced.

which is sad

because Denver stuck with Elway for years before he finally delivered. Loyalty in sports isn’t what it used to be.

Thing is

Every player on their roster knows that if they get down by 3 scores, they simply can’t catch up.

by jcaustic on Jan 14, 2012 10:45 PM EST up reply actions

Perhaps

but there aren’t many teams that can come back from that deficit, including our own Falcons.

17 is much easier to overcome than 21, but my case stands.

Did you think Alex Smith could have taken a knee at the 1 instead of taking it in for the TD? Probably could have run out a large part of the remaining clock and still have a chance to score the TD. Oh well, one of those plays that are extremely hard to do. Incredibly, it didn’t matter lol

You gotta take the points

So many things can go wrong if you don’t

FG was still on the table if not the TD, with the possibility of running out the clock to about :30 if the 3 running plays at the goal line don't get it in. They were only down by 1 at the time.

That would leave the Saints with the challenge of going 60-70 yds in about a half minute, which they could do of course.

Anyway, interesting scenario to think about.

On A different note

I read on NFL.com that the Falcons asked permission to interview Clements and Koeter. Clements, sure, but Koeter, please no. That would be MM all over again. If he’s the hire, Mike Smith should be f-ing fired immediately for refusing to let go of his uber-conservative scheming. Ughhhhh
