Tony Gonzalez's Replacement
Orson Charles(Jr.), TE from UGA, stated he is declaring for the draft and many are projecting him for the late second and third rounds. Personally because I am a homer, I have watched him play alot in his time at UGA and I must say if there is one person with the skill set to be the successor to ol' "88", it is this guy. If you are not sure about or even heard of this guy, then check this video.

No
Dwayne Allen would be a steal but Fleener might be in play. I would also take Brian Linthicum( if his head is right) or Ladarius Green. Charles wouldn’t be bad though its just Martrez Milner left a bad taste in my mouth.
Ladarius Green
Will be a beast in the NFL. Not many people have heard of him, because he went to Louisiana-Lafayette. Great size at 6"6 and decent speed (4.6) as well.
He's tall and fast, but...
He needs to put on about another 20 pounds to be an NFL tight end. Otherwise, he’ll get shoved around at the line of scrimmage.
That said, I’d love it if the Falcons picked up this guy. At his age, putting on that additional weight will only take one off-season and if he were able to study under Gonzalez for a year, he could be a very legitimate replacement.
He is more a TE in the mold of Hernandez in NE
He couldn’t be the main TE, but perfect paired with a prototypical TE(Gronk) in a system like they run.
Not this season
And conceivably not even next. But it’s smart for the Falcons to go for his replacement now, I think. Let’s get a talented project.

You also have to look at Free Agency.
Although I expect this is not the route the Falcon’s Front Office usually goes there are a couple quality free agents out there. That said the future TE will be found via draft.
Fred Davis – WAS : A young, 25, super athletic freak. The guy had a monster breakout year after Chris Cooley went out. Again he is probably the first or second best Tight End on the market so he might be pricey and he also was suspended 4-games for PED’s. He’ll probably resign for a 1-year deal.
Jermichael Finely – GB : This guy is a freak of nature. A big, big guy that faded out a little in Green Bay’s Air Raid Offense near the end of the season but the guy is all ability. Probably the sure-fire #1 TE on the market. That said he will probably be off the market depending on how much Atlanta values the position and how much money they’re willing to put in the TE position.
Joel Dreessen – HOU : Houston has the best Two Tight End duo outside of New England. With Owen Daniels injured, Dreessen filled in admirably and put up pretty reputable numbers with Daniels. Age might become a factor since he is 29.
Martellus Bennett – DAL : Dallas’ forgotten son. Could be pricey but the guy has talent and at 24 he is young.
Scott Chandler – BUF : Young,26, and may not be more than a redzone target but he does that impeccably well.
Evan Moore – CLE : He got lost in the offense of Cleveland but I think he has a better chance of improving in our type of offense.

No to Bennett
I doubt Finley or Davis leave their respected teams. Chandler would be interesting but Im sure Buf will try to retain him as well. The draft is our best option for finding his replacement.

True
However, you’re banking on someone who has no NFL experience as you savior at the TE position. For every Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez out there, there are just as many Lance Kendricks and Kyle Rudolphs.

Kendricks and Rudolph have played well this season
Trust me Bennett is not the answer. People have told me they see him at clubs 5 hrs before kickoff. He doesn’t have the attitude we need.

Heard the same
I’ve watched him and it’s always the same talk – he’s the next great TE for Dallas, but it never happens.
Free Agency
is not the way to go I don’t think. Those guys you put know they are highly sought after and will cost way more than a 2nd or 3rd round pick that is TE.

Your missing
one who I think could be a great choice. John Carlson from Seattle. He is young and has played well in this league plus could come cheap as he is coming off an injury. I can’t imagine Seattle resigns him as they just gave Miller big bucks.
I agree.
Not quite sure why Seattle went after Miller with Carlson on the roster honestly. And unless they plan on running a ton more 2 TE sets which I doubt Carlson will be on his way out. The guy is good for 50-60 ctachs and 500-600 yards a season. My only concern for him is that he just missed all of the last season due to injury.

And Fred was suspended
for smoking pot not doing peds
Athletic, fast, and potential to be a dangerous receiver. I don’t see how he could be graded as a 2nd/3rd rounder. He is a little undersized compared to most of the elite TEs in this league.
Blocking is a little weak, drops some easy passes (which can be worked on). I can’t really see him adding 20 pounds and keeping that speed, which would be his strong point.
If we could trade back into the 4th round he might be a good choice.
