Todd Grantham Won't Become Falcons Defensive Coordinator
I, for one, would not want to see what would happen to the Falcons fan base if the team were to take the revered Todd Grantham away from the top in-state college team. Glad we can avoid that.
(Now, if he coached for Florida or some such, then by all means.)

...because Spags accepted the job?
by FLA_Falcon on Jan 11, 2012 7:33 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Denial is merely a negotiating ploy.
/stirs the pot
Granth denies the job offer
Hoping other teams may give him an offer if they think they don’t have to compete

Lol...college football is to difficult for these schools that arent power houses...
I just dont see the point…year after year the same schools are praised and the bcs is such bull that school like georgia dont stand a chance

If a SEC school
goes undefeated, they’re a shoe-in for the BCS championship game. If a SEC school goes 1-loss, they’re probably in some major bowl.
This year Georgia kinda got screwed by the asinine 2-team max rule, combined with the AQ bull, and the misconceptions that not only is Virginia Tech good (they’re not), but people want to watch them (they don’t).
UT should be a powerhouse, but are in the midst (hopefully the bottom has been reached) of a very, very rough rebuilding period that also included major injuries to key players when the backups were, well let’s just say not very good.
Right I was gonna say thats...
Probably the only positive for georgia, that they are in the SEC…unfortunatly for them they arent at the top of the food chain. I like ND but dont put much stock into it. Competetion is very hard and so many schools that the odds are really stacked up

I'm not listening! I'm not listening!
(hands over ears, rocky top playing in background, peyton manning poster on wall)
Should have a poster of Tee Martin in all honesty =P Though there is nothing wrong with Manning’s UT career.

Been saying it since BVG left. All he and Saban did in 06 was take the 17th ranked Miami def and turn it into a top 5 def.

Can’t call plays for $#!+

Who hires him in the first place?
Especially since he “realized” that in 2005!!

What in the hell
if he realized that in ’05, WHY WERE WE LETTING HIM DO THAT?

Come on
“Some guys are very good at managing the game and calling plays. I’m not one of them,”
He’s talking about Head Coaches who can manage games and call plays at the same time.
Yeah but the truth is, he really can't call plays.

Why the hell are we talking about college coordinators?
We just got rid of one. Give me Spags or Bowles from Mia. Ill even take Nolan.
Yea I agree with that
No college dudes…
by Bigru3 on Jan 12, 2012 7:38 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
I don't get the "no college" thing.
Almost everyone moves through the ranks of college ball first. There are always good coaches coming out of college ball. Why so prejudice?

No prejudice at all
I wouldn’t mind getting a college coach for DC but for Smittys sake he needs a proven guy.

You gotta start from somewhere
Hawk beat me to it but yeah, all good NFL coaches weren’t born on an NFL sideline.
Yea your right...they can start somewhere else lol
The NFL is a totally different animal. Theres always a transition period and it may take a year for him to adjust…not to mention he would now be dealing with grown men with egos not frat boys who are scared of their coach. Just to risky..take a proven pro

....therefore 3-4 don't work.
Is that what your saying?
Rule #1: Double tap.
by Ball Hawk on Jan 12, 2012 9:00 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Sad reach. I left it brief for a reason but I didn’t expect “therefore 3-4 don’t work”. Phillips will always be a fantastic 3-4 DC. However, if a team isn’t built to run that style of defense then the team will struggle to convert, which is why it didn’t work out last time (Personnel). And why it will not work this time around (imo). I probably would of been better off ignoring this though.
by Caviarhound on Jan 12, 2012 10:39 AM EST up reply actions
Personel.
I get that but right now we don’t have the personel to play a 4-3 right. We will likely lose Abe. That leaves us with little pass rush so we need new ends anyway. Our line is solid on the inside but we need a NG. We will likely lose one of our starting LBs also. Remaining two (Spoon and Lofton) are golden for the inside spots. So needs for a 3-4: NG and 2 OLB’s. That’s not that tough to get. Say we sign Mario Williams and a fat guy it works.
