Falcons-Buccaneers Second Half Open Thread

I wrote this before the game even started, so I'm going to take a wild guess as to what's going on at halftime.

The Falcons leapt out to an early lead behind Michael Turner's 300 yards rushing, thanks to his new bionic groin. Matt Ryan has thrown for 250 yards and 17 touchdowns, which is pretty improbable, but they did it. The Buccaneers are putting up a game effort, but they're looking toward drafting an elite cornerback in the 2012 NFL Draft and torturing the Falcons in the years to come.

So they've got a lead and things are going well. Here we go, as the second half begins.

GO FALCONS!

Question from a confused Saints fan:

At what point does scoring become “classless”?

by Drew-Dat on Jan 1, 2012 5:51 PM EST reply actions

When there's inside a quarter and youre up by a mile, going shotgun every play

With your starters. We’ve pulled our starters before half time, most of our points have come from good field position by the D creating turnovers, and when we had a chance to drive the field and put up more we let it go to halftime.

still, Dunta should just shrug it off.

basically he got punched in the helmet

Took offense to it, and shoved the wr who punched him

by falconnuke on Jan 1, 2012 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

He threw an elbow at a wr laying on the ground with the ball nowhere in the area.

Parker is an idiot and former Nole. Dot care for him in the least but I can’t blame him for swinging at Dunta there

by FLA_Falcon on Jan 1, 2012 7:03 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

no,

the ball was tipped, it was a hot read, he went to make a play. while dunta was down, preston went and slapped him in the face.

but the big flying hit, well I’ll admit that was stupid

I saw what I saw lol

I’m just done with Dunta now. He’s an ineffective, cocky, borderline dirty, overpaid corner. But if we were a top 2 seed I guess he’d be cool.

by FLA_Falcon on Jan 1, 2012 7:08 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I'll probably agree with that one

but take away the “borderline dirty”. I’d make that more of a “makes poor decisions”

by falconnuke on Jan 1, 2012 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

Ball was tipped at the line

Dunta was allowed to hit that guy cause it was suppose to be a screen

I do.

All these “accidental” elbow to head plays? Where there’s smoke there’s fire…

by FLA_Falcon on Jan 1, 2012 7:05 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

From watching that play

It looks to me like he was propelling himself toward the ball and just crashed into Parker. Probably should have been more aware of where he was, but I don’t think that was intentional. I also don’t think it merited getting shoved, punched multiple times and herded off to the sideline.

But that’s just me.

by Dave Choate on Jan 1, 2012 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed. He read the play and dove for the hit as the ball was tipped..

unless he can stop himself in mid air, not much to be done.

Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence.
Vince Lombardi

by armchair quarterback on Jan 1, 2012 7:10 PM EST up reply actions

didn't you know?

defensive players are expected to be able to stop themselves in the middle of the air on a dime and completely change their direction of travel, also on a dime.

by falconnuke on Jan 1, 2012 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

I guess I saw it different than you guys.

Not expecting him to stop in mid air or change direction. It just seemed to be an unnecessary hit. Imagine if he did that in a game that mattered and got ejected… Oh wait, our Pass D would probably improve. Good play buddy!

by FLA_Falcon on Jan 1, 2012 7:15 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I agree it was an unnecessary hit

it was more hyperbole about him stopping himself in mid air, and the pervasive attitude of NFL officials towards defensive players.
