Atlanta Falcons-Tampa Bay Buccaneers Open Thread
With the Detroit Lions winning but only narrowly over the Green Bay Packers, this one could suddenly matter. A lot.
The New Orleans Saints sealed up the third spot in the NFC, so a Falcons loss today would ensure Atlanta heads back to the Super Dome to play the team that has tormented them in 2011. In my opinion, that would be somewhat less than ideal.
It's time for the Falcons to buck up and play a full game of football, beat an inferior opponent and lock up a game against the winner of the NFC East. That game, contrary to my earlier post, isn't until later tonight. Either way, it's a better early matchup than the Saints. As much as I'd like to see the Falcons rest their starters, it's not gonna happen this week.
So let's hope the Falcons come out of the gates swinging, win this game and get a decent matchup for the divisional rounds of the playoffs. It'd enjoy that.
GO FALCONS!

How interesting is it
that all of us including myself rip the Falcons, but we see the Saints score 40 pluse on the Panthers and the Panthers can’t score anymore.
And Buffalo can’t score after going up 21-0 with 49 unanswered.
So maybe it’s they way all coaches play.
I say let's play the Saints
We’re acting like this wasn’t going to happen anyway. Are we so down on this team and lacking so much confidence in them that we want an “easier” opponent?
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
every team wants an "easier" opponent
last year I remember a number of people hoping Philly would beat GB so that we’d play the Seahawks. Nothing wrong with hoping for a matchup that plays better to Atlanta’s strengths/weakness/intangibles.
but what if the Giants or Cowboys aren't an "easier" opponent
then if we lose to them….we say “we shouldn’t played the Saints because we are more familiar.” when in fact that’s the thing we have on them in the first place
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
but the thing that NO has on ATL
is they know everything ATL’s going to do, and know they can beat them.
It doesnt matter who we play
If we dont execute we wont win
by pierre02 on Jan 1, 2012 4:14 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Dallas/New York is an easier matchup
we could lose to them but if we did and people then say they wished they played New Orleans then they are just reacting foolishly
I know it seems like the cowardly way out
But the Giants and Cowboys are, compared to the Saints, complete messes right now. I want to play the team that gives the Falcons the best chance to win.
Of course, I’ve been wrong before.

WOW! Pot calling the kettle black, here.
Trashing the Saints for running up the score six days ago, but going for it on 4th and 1, up by three touchdowns?
But you've got nothing to play for, the Saints still had a shot at the #2 seed.
Detroit has lost, Falcons have the game well in hand, why bother.

Do you honestly think we would have scored again Monday night if the Falcons had just punted the damn ball?
We’d have completed passes for 30 yards, and then run out the clock. Its your own fault that you put us where we HAD to score in order to get the record.
you won that game
no doubt, though nobody can figure what that call was on an apparent holding-safety of Brees.

RE: Saints running up the score...
Saints kneeled four plays today inside the Carolina 15, and gave them the ball back with 36 seconds still on the clock. That’s NOT running up the score. And we’d have done the same thing to you if you’d have just conceded the game and punted. You brought it on yourself by going for it. Did you REALLY think you could score 22 points in 3 minutes?
I hope you get past DAL/NYG and GB. I’d love to give you another shot at us. You’ve beaten us twice since 2005. We’re not afraid.
Great, we get that

Instead of taking a knee on first down, they threw a quick pass to Graham and gained 22 yards to give him the record. They proceeded to take three consecutive knees after that. First example of karma for the Saints, Graham doesn’t get his record. I love it.

Oh, great. Mike Pereira...
that means he’s going to just agree 100% with whatever the official says
he has the best job
cuz it really doesnt matter if he is right or not
and even when he's wrong
he gets to complain and be belligerent to people who disagree with him
This is just food for thought and discussion,
What do you all think?
I’m not sure coach Sean Payton really needed to play his starters into the fourth quarter. San Francisco had a big lead on St. Louis and the Saints were winning easily. That’s two weeks in a row where it can at least be perceived that Payton was running up the score against a division opponent. That could come back to haunt him in the long term.
"The Dos Equis guys want me to be the least interesting man in the world" - Drama
No issue with him wanting to get the record out the way the more I've thought about it
And no issue with him keeping starters in when there’s still something to play for, seeing how close the Rams actually got. But I agree he runs up scores and I hope it haunts him in the end, yes.

Good job Falcons!!!
If I am not addicted to pain, then why am I a fan of Atlanta sports?

Hey Falcoholics.
As happy as I am to be winning this game like all of you, I want you ALL to know that “bragging” about this “blowout” is NOT good. TB is a below .500 team. Just like Jacksonville was when we beat them. So until we can put up 45 points on teams like N.O., and GB, then gloating over beating TB is a moot point. Just my opinion.
TB are very very very bad, I doubt anyone will be cheering anything other than the 5th seed

Still a hell of a lot of fun
Remember when we complained about the Falcons keeping it close with bad teams?

julio needs 37 to reach 1,000
this would be amazing, considering that he only has played 10 full games, are there any more doubters out there?
I'm gonna need some serious help
figuring out who to root for tonight…

would we rather play out doors or at Jerry world?

No the Question should Be
Would we Rather play a Horrible Dallas secondary with a Pretty good pass rush (Double Team Ware) or would we rather face the Giant Decent secondary with and excellent all around pass rush?
