I have been a falcon fan since the dirty birds in 98. Thats why it still pains me that that was the last time we were in a superbowl. Mediocrity is the name of our game. Now to this regime. I love Smitty as a head coach but his coordinators are going to get him fired. I don't see us winning a ring with them at the helm.
Its crazy to think our offense is this talented and yet so bland. Some of the blame falls on Matty. He tries to do too much at times. That's when his boneheadedness comes in. Its also part of the O line. What makes Brees, Brady, and Peyton so effective is the time they have in the pocket. For us to be a top tier team our O line needs to do that against top notch D lines. An IMO most of the blame goes on MM. Again how do you have a offense so talented and yet be so conservative. Can you imagine how this offense could be with some creativity. I mean how are we supposed to thrive when mid game the defense knows what's coming. Its frustrating to watch at times. The next 2 years might be make it or break it for Matty Ice. I just hope MM isn't there to "help".
Now the D. Smitty is a former DC. So why are our fundamentals so terrible? I don't know. BVG as I have said time and time again needs to be fired or demoted or what ever. His schemes are college level. Mike Martz picked apart our D with screens and deep digs yesterday. TD needs to find a position coach out there or even a college coach. Some one hungry to implement this D with some life. I don't think our D is that bad(possibly a top ten D) but they have to correct mistakes and stop drinking their own kool aid. I get a since of arrogance out of them and there not even that good.
Now the FO. I love TD as GM but his drafting style isn't my favorite. I am a aspiring scout/GM if you want to say that and i feel any position can be a need if you can get a better player. That being said if you have a elite QB there is no need to draft another in the 1st round(unless you plan on trading him). I get the whole draft smart players with good track records but I would like to see him take some high risk/high reward players. If not the 1st couple rounds at least the 4th round and on for players who have fell in the draft. We miss out on outstanding talent for conservative(again) decent players. No playmakers just role players. Also could do better in FA. Atlanta a nice market and I am sure we could grab a couple key free agents. Winning a ring is important but establishing a winning franchise is as or even more important.
These are just my opinions. If you beg to differ(which I know you do) feel free to post a comment.
