Shann Schillinger humiliatingly dragged 5 yards in the dirt, but who the hell didn't look like a clown? Maybe Abe or Tony? That is apparently not enough to win a football game. This was a total collapse from the organization down.
We flat out weren't ready to go today. I just replayed & repeatedly rewound most plays of the game up until Matty's fumble/TD giveaway in the 3rd. We were still competing at that point. HOWEVER, from the beginning, we were playing like rich fat drunks at sunrise. Yes, there were plenty of memorable meltdowns like turnovers and ST, and I realize DeCoud should make those catches, Dunte needs new cleats, and the return of McClure is of the highest priority. All that being said, I guarantee that if you watch it again, you'll see lackadaisical underachievement and mental error from every single player (except for the vets, Abe & Tony). They weren't prepared not only today, but yesterday and the day before, too. Zero discipline & no fire. It wasn't just a few players or schemes that screwed us up. Everybody on almost every play looked unprepared. This falls on the coaching staff, and yet it is fixable! Fundamental football needs to be rule #1, not Sports Illustrated. As long as Smitty & Co. look themselves in the mirror, chew ass, and re-implements tedious elementary drills, we'll be fine. During the game, I believe Tony Siragusa said it best with, "[Falcons] look like they only practice in full pads once a week." We were terrible. Worse than the GB game or anything I've seen since Petrino. But we are not this bad. We just need to focus and learn from this one, as cliche as that sounds. Plus, if you forgot, we're still tied in the division. Yes, I realize the rest of the division didn't get blown out and we showed the poorest performance of all. But I also know that we are way better than this and have the potential to beat any team in the NFL as long as we're healthy & READY to play.
If none of this helps at all, and you're determined to be angry, I can help with that, too. Watch Owens on 3rd & 9 with 4:52 left in the 2nd. Also, we've got Philly next week at home in front of a split crowd.
