Around SBN: What If This Is It For The Celtics? End Of An Era Looming

New To The Community

Hello Everyone! I've been reading your posts for 2 years now and contemplating whether to join. After attending Friday's game against the Jags, I thought I put in my 2 cents. The line-backing core looks great. I have especially been impressed with a kid from my neck of the woods, no pun intended, Bear Woods. I have watched this young man since his high school days and I don't believe I have ever seen someone who loves the game any more than him. When he's not on the field, he can't be still. When he's on the field, you can feel something good about to happen. I thought he might make the team last year but it wasn't to be. He seems to have become a man during the off-season and I believe he is ready to do some damage. I got a chance to talk with him after the game Friday and he is truly one of the nicest young men I have ever met. You can tell he is just happy to have the opportunity to be on the field. I hope the coaches see what I do. He is a true baller. If you put his minutes together for the last 2 preseasons, and count the tackles, he averages around 12 per game. I know that is a little skewed due to it not being regular season but looking at all the back-ups, he is the most ready I believe to make a mark. He also sacked the quarterback last year in Jacksonville and led the team in tackles as he did in the first game this year. Maybe my vision is a little blurry but what little he lacks in athleticism, he more than makes up for in heart. I think it's a no-brainer. Put him on kickoffs and the punt team and let him hunt heads. Give Lofton a rest now and then with Big Bear. We need that!

As much as I like Woods

and I think he is Falcon worthy, I think its going to be fairly tough for him to grab a roster spot with our very busy LB group. Lofton, ‘Spoon, Peterson, Nicholas and Dent I think all have locked up their roster spot. Adkins looks like he will grab the 4th OLB spot and Wire will grab the 3rd MLB spot on special team credentials. I doubt that the Falcons would hold 8 LB’s and with most of the players having a contract, a draft pick or other credentials to hold leverage over Woods. I’m fairly sure he is a MLB (correct me if I’m wrong) and so unless Dent is dropped or Woods can make the switch to the outside to challenge Adkins for his spot, I don’t see much room for Woods. However I think once Peterson retires then Dent can move across and we can bring Woods in, but who knows when that will be

Welcome to the site!

I think Bear Woods is destined for the practice squad this year. He needs one more year to develop, and then there will likely be a roster spot waiting for him. As stated above, once Peterson retires, there will be an open spot in the linebacking corps, and I think Woods will earn it. If we win the Super Bowl this year (fingers crossed), Peterson will be done. However, I also think this is Adkins last year to prove himself as worthy of the roster spot. If he struggles, Bear could get action sooner than next year, if he can play a little OLB.

I like Bear, but...

I think he’s got an outside shot at best. However, guys like Bear only ever need an outside shot. He’s done a fairly good job in the preseason and he seems to have good field instincts that puts him around the ball all the time. If he shows some of that presence on special teams in the next preseason game, I could see him making the roster as a ST guy.

I could see Bear making it over Adkins.

OLB can be learned and I think Wire has played there before anyways. The reason I say it, is because with all the talent out there I think you have to bring more to the table than just playing a position. Woods is far superio to Adkins on Special teams for sure, and i could see the FO keeping him just because of that. Can you imagine us having Weems, Woods, KB, and Wire all on ST’s head hunting? Would be sweet to watch them bliterate returners all year long!
