READ THIS: Minding Your Manners The Falcoholic Way

The lockout sucks. Tensions run high and boredom is rampant. I have no illusions about that.

Those who have been around a while know I'm reluctant to police threads. I think when I start telling people what they can and can't say outside of common sense stuff—pr0n, overly profane tirades and slurs—people become timid about saying what they really think. I like the wide open environment. I'm sure all of you have experience with an overbearing dude who cuts down comments that don't agree with his point of view and quash discussion. I think that's unfortunate.

That said, I'm getting a little tired of scrolling through comment threads and seeing arguments that devolve into "you idiot, I can't believe you think X" or "why don't you go back to Wrongtown, you wronghole!" That's not how we roll here at The Falcoholic, and it has a chilling effect on discussion. I have seen longtime commenters leave because the level of discourse has a nasty habit of dropping in the middle of a thread.

So I'm going to ask politely for everyone to think twice before they post an insult. I want you to be able to argue your points, I want you to be able to cut loose occasionally and I want this to be a place where people are comfortable discussing. I think we can do all that without bringing our talks to the personal vendetta level.

Let's treat each other with dignity and respect, as much as is humanly possible. If you want to talk about this in more detail, e-mail me or engage me in the comments.
