READ THIS: Minding Your Manners The Falcoholic Way
The lockout sucks. Tensions run high and boredom is rampant. I have no illusions about that.
Those who have been around a while know I'm reluctant to police threads. I think when I start telling people what they can and can't say outside of common sense stuff—pr0n, overly profane tirades and slurs—people become timid about saying what they really think. I like the wide open environment. I'm sure all of you have experience with an overbearing dude who cuts down comments that don't agree with his point of view and quash discussion. I think that's unfortunate.
That said, I'm getting a little tired of scrolling through comment threads and seeing arguments that devolve into "you idiot, I can't believe you think X" or "why don't you go back to Wrongtown, you wronghole!" That's not how we roll here at The Falcoholic, and it has a chilling effect on discussion. I have seen longtime commenters leave because the level of discourse has a nasty habit of dropping in the middle of a thread.
So I'm going to ask politely for everyone to think twice before they post an insult. I want you to be able to argue your points, I want you to be able to cut loose occasionally and I want this to be a place where people are comfortable discussing. I think we can do all that without bringing our talks to the personal vendetta level.
Let's treat each other with dignity and respect, as much as is humanly possible. If you want to talk about this in more detail, e-mail me or engage me in the comments.
This FanPost was written by one of The Falcoholic's talented readers. It does not necessarily reflect the views of The Falcoholic.

Well said, Dave.
It is getting a little tiring to see the discussion threads dominated by two or three people with opposing views who just bash their heads up against a wall trying to convince each other, and then finally just result to insults. We’re all on the same side here, right?
I fear I'm guilty
and I apologize. One of the best parts of this site, as Dave pointed out, is that people are free to share their opinions. And for the most part, I really do like to engage in discussion with people of varying opinions.
The problem lately has been knowing when the good, entertaining opinionated discussion ends and it turns into a ‘me vs. you’ argument. As hard as it is sometimes, I think the site and we’ll all be better if we can recognize an “agree-to-disagree” point and then move forward to something else.
That being said, it’s great to be here discussing about the Atlanta Falcons. I don’t get to interact with many passionate Falcon fans in a face-to-face environment, so I really relish discussing/debating Falcons Football with most (I kid, I kid) of you.

Thanx Dave.
I won’t mind if you copy and paste this monthly on here as a reminder also. lol
I mean cmon people, we need all our insults for the saints fans that troll here, not each other. right? lol
All in good fun, always remember, we’re all fans of the same wonderful game!!
@Chi, @Ind,@Det SIMPLY AWESOME !! . All are within 3.5 hours of me.I'll probably be supporting the birds from the sidelines of all 3 of those this year. I am getting so excited about the first game of the season, everybody I work with are Bears and Colts fans. It's gonna be sooo sweeet this year, taking all their money!! bwaaha haha haha
I agree
I always try to save my insults for unreasonable and annoying trollers for the Saints, Bucs, Panthers (haven’t seen to many of these lately), and Vick.
Not if you follow it up with "is a graceful lady."

Great job; great suggestion. Liberty ends where someone else’ nose is bloodied. (I’m sure I’m guilty of a paraphrase here.) We want our players to be restrained and not uselessly flame out our opponents with their disdain, e.g. opposing coach motivational speech against us. Let’s invoke the same TD/Smitty “how we roll” discipline that we expect our team to uphold. Just remember no “drunk posts after a night of lubricants” which was explained by my teen as “don’t call for wishing to recall.”
Well
I’m new to SBN and I’m not sure how often a fanpost like this is posted but I’m guessing some of my recent activity had something to do with it. Let me just say, that a friend turned me on to SBN and I joined specifically for the Lakers site since there aren’t nearly any Lakers fan where I’m from, and ironically he warned me about this site, the Falcoholic. SBN has been a fun experience really until I started commenting on the Falcoholic, I must say things are very different here than any other SBN site. I’ve been disrespected from the jump and it has caused me to be likewise argumentative and defensive. If you view my recent activity for other SBN sites you will notice that I never had any other arguments in over 300 comments! Only when I get on here do I get challenged and disrespected, yet I still comment because I love the hometown team. It’s not everybody though, it’s only a handful of guys and for the most part I enjoy the posts by Dave, Caleb, James, and others. I came up with this great idea yesterday, and I have applied a “one comment rule” for myself. From now on I will post only one comment per thread regardless of what kind of response it gets. Hopefully that’ll help.

Appreciate the feedback, walt
Definitely wasn’t singling anyone out. Just weighing in on the general mood of the site.
And you were warned about us? Ouch.

Sorry
I didn’t intend for it to sound like I was taking a shot at the Falcoholic. I love this site, and besides the occassional hostile comments everything else that I was told has proven to be incorrect, if that makes it any better.

Whoa! Was that two posts on one thread, Walt baby?
It’s a joke. When you get flamed, walk away. Put some space between yourself and the smaller man. In space, no one can hear you flip ’em off.
How many more days, Lord, must I walk through the wilderness?
GO FALCONS!!
really??
Surely we can’t be as bad as….“other fan sites,” surely.
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
Can't say I agree w/waltbabyluv
In my opinion this is one of the more mellow boards. I belong to the Angels board and for the most part, good guys, but if u don’t back up your opinion with mind numbing stats, some will skewer you. Checked out a few other boards, Jets, Pats, Eagles, watch out when those guys lose! I don’t know who “warned” you about our little fan area but seriously, we’re Falcon fans, we’ve spent most of our fan lives laughing just to keep from crying.
Thanks, Dave.
I was gone for a while (during last season) and when I came back I noticed a lot more of the aggressive arguments happening. Definitely seems odd that a group bonded by the same fanhood would argue amongst themselves. That said, tone is always difficult to interpret in this format, and I could see how someone could take something the wrong way. I guess people just need to always take the high road if you feel you’ve been slighted, even if you actually haven’t.

Oh well
This is why I try not to make many comments at all these days. When/if we have a season that may become harder to do.
