Saturday Night Falcons Discussion: Matt Ryan's Backup
Pretty general discussion for tonight, for those of you who are stumbling home after a night at the bars or just kicking around and home and looking to talk about the Falcons.
Who should be Matt Ryan's backup(s) in 2011 and beyond? If you're in favor of the status quo with Chris Redman and John Parker Wilson, comment on what you think should be the long-term replacement for Rojohombre, who probably only has a couple more seasons left in the tank. Is JPW the guy, or should the Falcons be drafting/picking up someone else?
Enjoy.

Not really a Falcon, just on here looking for news on Bear Woods, but for what its worth, I don’t really think JPW is that good of a no 2 man at QB. Thats based on only watching a few of his preseason games and most of his college career, so take it with a grain of salt.
Croyle is a solid back up, he’ll be on the market this summer. This draft will have prospects available late as well I’ll bet.
Moisture is the essence of wetness.
I hope Bear makes it on the roster.
He did well in his limited snaps in preseason.

Redman's good enough for now.
So long as the QB throws the passes, there should always, always, always be a new QB that gets brought into camp to put a little fire under the current QBs. It doesn’t have to be a highly rated QB, it doesn’t have to be a drafted QB, and it doesn’t have to cost much, but someone should always be brought in so that you have a chance to possibly find a diamond in the rough or improve your current QBs’ work ethics.
You never know what can happen.

QBs
The backups are woefully inadequate. Ryan goes out , and kiss it goodbye.
Is that what you want?
finally a member!!!
i registered on the thursday late night, but couldn’t comment cuz i coudln’t find my confirmation link till tonite (it was in the spam folder). been a fan since the nfc west days (deion, rison, tuggle, etc) cuz they show all the niner games in Salinas, CA. i can finally make fun of my niner friends (for now)!!!
now that i’ve intro’d myself, it’d be cool to draft a qb, but i don’t think we’ll have 4 qbs. i say give JPW another go-round in the preseason and use the picks on other needs. can always get an UDFA or unemployed vet in case of emergency.
on that last note – dare i say it – anyone think Jamarcus is redeemable? I saw him out here in CA. the 1 time he impressed me was in the 2009 opener against SD. he came through in the clutch, but penalties cost them TDs and 1st’s. just throwing it out there. i have a bet with a friend that he gets signed before the season starts. Don’t want him for ATL, but I don’t think its a bad idea for a team like the Colts who are really nothing without their #1 QB.

Find a 6th or 7th rounder
As some have stated earlier, I think our team could really improve in the QB position’s depth if we find a dual-threat quarterback in the late rounds.
First off, I'm completely fine with Redman as our #2
Second, I’d like to see a different #3 brought in this year, a guy with some speed that maybe we could develop into a pat white-esque player that we could use for trick plays and such
(except don’t use a 2nd round pick on him hahaha)

If we brought in a "trick quarterback"
he would have to be #2 if we wanted to actually get him on the field. I believe that according to NFL rules you can’t put your 3rd QB out there and then switch back to the first. You can only switch between the first two. Feel free to check me on that.
