JJ and Dunta a bust? Too early? Too early?
Is it just me or the front office thought too much of these guys? Or is it me panicking about our below expected season?
Although he has had some good plays, he has not done nearly as much as was expected. I mean Brent Grimes has clearly been our shutdown corner for the past 2 seasons. I mean he was supposed to be the successor to DeAngelo Hall. hmmmm. Defense is not a game of perfection, is a game of minimizing errors a.k.a yards. So I am not saying we have to be perfect but Weatherspoon and Lofton are doing a great job at LB's, and what can we say about Mo Robinson, he probably had the best game of his carreer against Houston. Decoud and Sanders are doing a solid job in the backfield too. If you watched the Saints defense we stopped them in their tracks for 90% of their plays and allowed i believe 0-none Yards After Catch. Dunta, for a CB has a lot of solo tackles which means he has been targeted a lot. I don't mean to rain on his parade but he clearly is not playing at the level we expected.
Then there is our beloved JJ. Julio and Matt are not going down by the school-park as planned. Listen Julio is nothing personal. I personally think the departure of Michael Jenkins really hurt our passing game (look what he was able to do with D.Nab in Minnesota while he was Healthy). Just to have a veteran in our WR core and teach Julio a couple things here and there. Not to mention a good slot, third option receiver for Ryan on third downs (NFC game anybody). It might just be me but do we only have 3 receivers in our depth chart? Julio, Roddy, and Weems? (thought Weems was a only a return man) I mean of course Tony is almost like one, but the Colts didn't win a Superbowl with only Dallas Clark. Defenses are having to easy of a time covering either one of our guys, specially if the run game isn't working.
Well enough of my rant, Julio Jones are you sure you can catch a ball? I mean it was a tough game against Houston, I watched it, and Matty Ryan's accuracy wasn't the best since he was under pressure all game long; but there is two balls that were easily catchable. You are in the pros now and if you can catch em, you better do. A big third down that went right through your hands, and well... we know what the second one was. I know you are a rookie, I understand that, but weren't you the guy that was supposed to bring us to the Big Game? I got high hopes for you buddy so I can't wait to see what happens next season.
If we want Tony to stay with us with a couple more seasons (and he can be a huuuge asset in big games), we need to get a true third receiver and a solid passing game. But I will save that for another post. Please tell me what you thought of my post, any feedback is appreciated.

No to JJ yes to Dunta
JJ had a bad game…who hasn’t? What I will say about Julio is that I know the only reason we got him was as a fallback. We had the trade for A.J. But apparently it fell apart at the last second…so TD feeling like it all slipped through his fingers, gave up too much for a player with less talent. Not a bust, just probably not worth what we gave up for him. Dunta’s skills were boosted because he was the best CB in a weak FA class. He played in a man to man system and then had to switch to zone which never works (see Namdi). The worst part is we won’t be able to trade him. No ones gonna want to pick up his 60M contract.

I think they got the guy the wanted
I don’t think A.J. Green would have fit our system as well as Julio – he is quite mouthy. I am happy with the pickup and I am sure it will pay dividends in time

Good points on DR
and well said. In this case BVG is a bust, not DR.
I don’t agree with the comments about JJ though. As poorly as the offense is designed and the ineffectiveness of the schemes there is no accurate way to gauge JJ. If anyone thinks AJ would be better they are fooling themselves.
Agreed
Julio is a big play threat, but if you go back and watch the film from Alabama, he always took shorter routes and turned them into big plays. He’s explosive in space and hard to tackle.
I think Ryan has deep ball accuracy issues which affects Julio’s deep threat, but with an off season to really sync and work on timing routes (slants/posts/back shoulder/RZ Jump balls), you’ll see a new JJ.
We all know he has the work ethic, it’s just a matter of bringing consistency.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Don't teach a man to fish, and you feed yourself. He's a grown man. Fishing's not that hard.
Also...
assuming that MM goes to J-Ville and we get an OC who is creative enough to use JJ to create mismatches…maybe work JJ from the slot…

okay you got a couple points there
But Julio hasn’t had a bad game, he is been having a bad season for all the hype the organization put on him. Because based in what our expectations of giving so much for him, he is a bust THIS SEASON. Overall, not at all as you all had said he is a rookie and can just get better from here.
I don't think he's been a bust
this year at all. When called upon he has played well, except for last weekend when he had a couple of drops. Hell he’s been playing better than Roddy White this year.
OKAY
so, JJ is a ROOKIE, can’t call him a bust yet, not even had a full season yet and I believe if he hadn’t gotten hurt he may have hit 1000 yards receiving or just missed it. Also, the play calls don’t really fit the players we have. If you watched JJ in Bama, very rarely did they throw bombs to him, he ran short-intermediate routes and made them miss and made them big plays because of his speed and strength. Remember when we traded up for JJ it wasn’t for #2 receiver but more so a 1B to complement our 1A receiver.
Another thing is you completely forgot HD83 in here an put weems ahead of us as a receiver which is ridiculous, but maybe you just forgot I hope so.
DR I think has the potential and talent to be great, but I think it’s more so the scheme that BVG runs more than anything. DR is more so a M2M cover corner than a zone one because of his speed, or lack there of.. He’s not the fastest receiver so he can’t really make up ground lost in zones, and he doesn’t take the best tackling angles, but playing M2M and bump in run, which is why he was successful in HOU would be better. But he’s a veteran and should be able to learn the ropes and adjust to the system he plays in seeing that he decided to join the team, so it’s plausible to say that DR is a bust.

I dont know about the 1000
if you look at his stats from the 8 games he has been in, only in 3 of them he has posted over 100 yds receiving, and the only great game he had was the Colts one and we all know what their record is like. I do agree play calling has been awful and that might be why Matt hasn’t been able to find him much, as white has been quite most of the season too.
Maybe too much hype was put on JJ’s shoulders, and that is why I considered him a bust THIS season. Next season hopefully play calling gets better and Julio can showcase the skills we all know he has. Falcons need to play more 3 and 4 receiver sets, and have designed plays for Julio in short patterns. As for HD83, you are right he slipped my mind, he is a good receiver and that’s why i don’t understand why we don’t hear from him more often. By the way glad to hear of another NJ Falcon Fan
