An Atlanta Falcons Thursday Injury Report For Week 17
We interrupt this slow news days with some actual news. To the injury report!
Three players did not practice on Thursday, one day after the traditional veteran Wednesday of rest. The biggest name on the list is Ray Edwards, who is battling a knee injury—uh oh—and hasn't practiced each of the last two games. If he can't go, the Falcons will rotate Kroy Biermann and Lawrence Sidbury opposite John Abraham. Given the game at hand this Sunday, I'd be okay with the team resting Edwards for the playoffs.
Stephen Nicholas is not practicing and will miss another game. As we noted earlier, Spencer Adkins is starting in his place with Mike Peterson going on injured reserve.
Kerry Meier also isn't practicing, but he's essentially a non-factor in the offense thanks to Mike Mularkey's inability to see beyond third on the depth chart at wide receiver. Kevin Cone will probably take his place on special teams.
Also, Michael Turner is again limited by his groin injury. With the playoffs looming, this is fast becoming a real concern.
So that's the quick take. We'll check back in tomorrow.

Dear MM
This team has three capable running backs.
Did you know that? One of them is hurt, and can’t run as well. Why run him more and not the others? You don’t know any different? #1 RB title actually holds some weight with you? Well <bleep, honk, zoop, shoopuswhoopus, air horn, scream, censored beep> that.
Sincerely,
Me.

Exactly
I think that if we give Jaquizz more touches this season than he can become a great speedback, heck he can even catch well and might be similar to Sproles in the long run. Add that with MT and possibly the best FB, well he’s injured now but The Snell is still good, and we will be beast.
We will have the one of the best RB trios!

Yow, for real
When you think about the offensive weapons we have, it’s amazing that we can’t even score 20 points against the Saints defense. I’m really starting to hate Mike Mularky.
I'd actually like
to see them rest Turner and give the rock to Snelling and Quizz. Turner would have an extra week to heal. plus we’d see what we can get out of the backups

Additionally Mr. MM...
you’d make a great head coach (somewhere else)…you should immediately accept ANY offer that comes your way!!
Sincerely,

I almost want to see us drop our next two games so someone gets fired
Of course I’d gladly take a super bowl run instead

I don't want anyone to get fired for firing's sake...
I don’t always agree with BVG, but I have some respect for him; I think he is passionate and works really hard. I also sense that I couldn’t do any better than he does, with my nearly non-existent football coaching experience. MM, on the other hand, doesn’t seem passionate, and doesn’t appear to work that hard. Even more alarming, I’m almost sure I could do a better job of calling the plays in the current playbook to surprise the opposing defenses and create confusion, if only by being UNPREDICTABLE. I’m also sure I wouldn’t come off as such a boorish asshole (sorry Dave). In short, if I was TD, or AB, I would shortly lose MM for any better alternative, and would press BVG to explore every alternative to improve the Falcon’s defensive fortunes.
That said, I would also gladly take an MM about-face, leading to a serious Super Bowl run. But it would take a SERIOUS about-face by MM, suggesting even that he was holding out on the gameplan for the playoffs. In my mind, he’s showed flashes of genius, but the flashes were like color in the pan of a gold miner, leading one to think they were on the trail of a gold mine, when they actually only got a clue that there was a gold mine in the vicinity. I think at this point, we need an experienced gold miner for an offensive coordinator. We’ve already got the nuggets.

I'm sick and tired of Mularkey.
After that last game against the Saints where their “horrible” run game gashed our “top 5” rush D I’m tired of BVG too. Not sick yet, just tired.

Believe me, my friend
I feel your pain. I’m not yet over that horrid performance, on both sides of the ball.
Also also
I made a Mularkey post for tomorrow. Should be interesting.
Also also also, I think BVG has at least shown he can improve our defensive unit. Can’t really blame him for the lack of pass rush. Our rushers just are not doing it right now.

BVG
did improve this defense a bit, but still he could do a lot better.
we always discuss his soft zone here, and I personally have no idea why he doesn;t run man-to-man more often, having players like Dunta and Owens.
it’s either that he’s stubborn (or when I say HE it might be Smitty), or we don’t get it.

The commentators kept calling our coverage “predictable” Monday night. Does that say anything bout BVG?

Or a combination Man to Man/Zone, we have the personnel for it!!

I'm not sure
the lack of a pass rush isn’t partially his fault. We haven’t had an intimidating pass rush for a couple years now. At some point, the scheme has to take some blame. If it’s just personnel, than shouldn’t the DC speak up on draft day and say I need so-and-so? If the front 4 aren’t getting it done, then blitz a LB. Maybe our DL coach is the problem because you’d think guys like Babs, Abraham, Peters, Jerry, Edwards, Sid and Beer-man could get consistent pressure. I don’t know other than this group should be getting more sacks and pressures than they do.
We've tried that line before
“Hoping he’s holding out secrets for the playoffs”
0 out of 2 times that has happened thus far. Third time’s the charm, but I’m not feeling lucky.

Quizz
I would like to see quizz get 15 carries this week

I'm optimistic for Ray in the long run
Especially if he can get his knee back to 100% over the offseason, but I always wished we could have waited till this offseason to make a run at Cam Wake from Miami. Not sure if we could have got him(franchise tag or whatever) but he is just one of my favorite players. Being Canadian I have a soft spot for CFL imports and the guy can just flat out play, he is always in the backfield.
GREAT NEWS GUYS
Jacksonville are going to seriously consider Mike Murlarkey

Do you know what Malarkey meant? Its still seems to mean the same thing.

I was wrong!!!!!!
When Ray Edwards came on I was excited but he has actually caused our pass rush to get worse. If you couple that with his social issues it just seems like he’s not fitting in. The other day on twitter he was lashing out at fans in a very immature way. Seems to me he thinks of this as just another job. It’s not just a job and I hope his shitty attitude doesn’t infect our team. From everything I’ve seen so far he’s not buying in to our TEAM philosophy and he’s kind of a douche.
Rule #1: Double tap.
