I know, I know all you guys have been foaming at the mouth for another one of my great mock drafts. Ok maybe I'm a little ahead of my self but it is almost that time again. I think most of us agree that this team is talented enough. So we have the pieces it's just that we have Larry the cable guy playing them. So here we go.
nd: Deandre Branch/DE/Clem.: This was a toss up for me. We need new OT's bad but I think we can pick up a viable one in FA. We have needed a pass rush for some time. This guy will bring it. Abe is getting up there and Edwards is just a band aid. Branch has performed great this season for Clemson. He has 73 tackles(16 for loss), 10.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumbles. He had 4 sacks, 11 tackles(6 TFL) against VT alone. He has a good array of moves, is quick off the line, and has great closing speed. Know known injury history so that's also a plus.
rd: Coby Fleener/TE/Stan.: Finally we get a replacement for Gonzo. This guy is a mismatch nightmare. He is in the same mold as Aaron Hernadez. A baller and plus he is tough enough to go across the middle and has soft hands. His blocking needs to be improved but with Palmer as a backup I'm sure he won't have to on a consistent basis. Even if Gonzo stays another year having Fleener and Gonzo will make Matt's life alot easier.
th: Trumaine Johnson/DB/Mont.: The 5th round seems to be the sleeper round for TD. This kid is another in that line. A former high school QB, recruited as a WR, and moved to CB/FS in college. So we know he can read the QB and has soft hands. Also is a big hitter. Did have some arrest issues and that might steer TD away from drafting him. Only played 3 games this year but had 2 ints and has 13 picks in his career.
th: Austin Davis/QB/Sou. Miss.: We need a viable back up for Matt Ryan. Redman is getting up there in years and I don't think we retain him after this year. I am usually weary of players from heavy shotgun spread offenses but this kid could be a steal. He owns most of the records at Southern Miss.( Brett Favre's school) and had his team ranked in the top 25 this year. Could improve on his accuracy a little but he is athletic and could develop very nice behind Ryan.
th: Brandon Bolden/RB/Ole Miss.: This was another toss up for me. I wanted a WR/KR in the beginning but Bolden would be a steal here. He is a big back and is very athletic. Had a bad bowl game against Miss St. but he has been recovering from a injury. He has 4 TDs on the year after almost accumulating almost 1,000 yards(972 yards) and 14 TDs last season. If Snelling is retained then they will probably target another player here.
