Falcons-Saints Postgame Thread: Ouch

I'm not gonna lie to you guys. That was unpleasant.

I don't have to bore you with details, because you all saw it. The Falcons were cleanly outplayed by the Saints tonight, and Jeff Triplette's usual brand of god-awful officiating wouldn't have changed that.

Sometimes you just have to accept that as awful and embarrassing as an experience is, it's not the end of the world. These Falcons are still playoff bound. This loss does not automatically mean they're doomed to failure in the first round, by any means. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more motivated team than the Saints, who were gunning for the NFC South and an NFL record for Drew Brees. Not to mention that they're a damn good football team to begin with.

So the Falcons got shown up on national television and must make the necessary adjustments on both sides of the ball for next week, let alone the playoffs. Anything less than that means the Falcons season will end just about as unpleasantly as this game did, and there's no one on this blog that wants that to happen.

Time to look ahead. There's a road worth walking in the future, and behind us there's nothing but knee-high piles of poop. Let's get ready for the Buccaneers like the Falcons must be as I write this.

Onward and upward, friends.

Nothing to be said when it's this bad

This is why

No one can ever get serious about this team. I hope to God Blank fires all these coaching clowns after their one-and-done playoff appearance.

by kaminator on Dec 27, 2011 12:05 AM EST via mobile reply actions

agree 100%

It’s impossible to truly take this team seriously with the extreme ups and downs. The Saints were motivated? Sure they were, but what about the Falcons? It’s not as if they had nothing to play for. But I guess it is true about the record reflecting who a team is. This team is good but far from great, stuck in the upper middle.

by pthatch on Dec 27, 2011 12:20 AM EST up reply actions

I dont buy motivated

because every team better be motivated! Winning tonight and next week and hoping the Panthers can win next week so we can win the south isnt motivation enough? We just werent prepared. Plain and simple. We have gotten by on raw talent for 4 years now. Time to get some coaches in that knows how to advance their players and prepare them.

Dont cloud the issue with facts!

We've got to draft and coach for beating Drew Brees

and Cam Newton. Big, fast and physical is the only thing that’ll get it done.Oh and Matt Ryan is gonna get killed if we don’t fix the OL.

Other than the Lions

Who have we beaten? What has this team shown to let us think they have a prayer in the playoffs if they get the 6th seed?

We had better pray GB plays their starters against Detroit, for if we have to open at NO in the playoffs, we’re toast.

GATA!

by Jman781 on Dec 27, 2011 12:08 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Yep.

I hate thinking that way, but I don’t see how a fan with a brain can view a third game against the Saints any differently.

by Thrashy Thrashy on Dec 27, 2011 12:09 AM EST up reply actions

Lasting feeling from the game?

Meh. It was over in the third quarter, so I’ve cooled down since then.

Officiating was awful but had 0 impact on the outcome, so don’t blame that. Plus, it was quite entertaining at times to be honest. No hold because screen pass because Katrina? Funny every time.

Sean Peyton hopefully dies in a freak Stairmaster accident, because he just couldn’t resist running up it. Classless but oh well, they’ve done it for years so we may as well expect that from the Saints.

Our D looked awful for the first time since the front half of the year, but it looked bad enough I hope BVG goes.

Well done to Brees for getting a meaningless record in a generation of pro passig rule changes, and in the same year where Brady will also beat the record. Hope it impresses you Saints fans, but it’s not impressing me. Marino’s was still a better year by a mile.

Matt Ryan played great, but if we could get an O-line that would be great. The Saints O-line was insanely good, even if you exclude Holdrod against Abe all day, they kept the pocket clean as. That was the one aspect i was genuinly impressed at with the Saints, that’s something we need to get. Brees’ pocket was clean and empty all day.

Well…not empty….cause it had the refs and ESPN in it all day….but it was clean.

my only disagreement about the "0 real impact"

is that the non-calls and bs calls were throughout the entire game, particularly on 3rd downs. Obviously the defense did almost nothing on 3rd down the entire game, but what if some of those 3rd downs had to be called back due to penalties that were committed?

Could that have made big impacts on individual drives? yes.
could impacts on individual drives add up to maybe a game that doesn’t get out of hand? probably.

a team down 7 plays a hell of a lot different than a team down 28. that’s all i know.

by falconnuke on Dec 27, 2011 12:16 AM EST up reply actions

That's true, but

aside from the Lofton call then the Reggie Kelly no-call, none of the reffing decisions were at a time when the game was relevant. By the time the no offsides/no free play one was ruled, the game was nearly done. 5 yards wouldn’t have changed much at that point.

even the first drive

obvious holding was committed by the Saints OL. How about Weatherspoon having very minor “DPI”, but then Falcons receivers being mauled the very next drive and the first drive(when the game was still relevant), and there’s nothing.

The horrendous reffing decisions did get out of hand once the game was out of hand, but based on what I saw while watching the game, horrendous reffing decisions did have a hand in continuing drives or scoring plays from the first drive in the game.

Not gloating, FF. Really. Just a little humor(?) directed at DopeFalcons.

If we meet you guys again in the playoffs it’s like we’re starting off with a clean slate. I don’t think any other team, especially in our own division, gives us more headaches than the Falcons. I think the fans of both teams have been through enough ups and downs to remember that it could all change tomorrow.

As for running up the score? I think if Drew had broken the record on your 20 yard line we would have started running again. It just happened that the yards needed for the record ended up in your end zone.

Running up the score?

How about Atlanta 41- lowly JacksonvIlle 14?

Or maybe if Julio could hold on to the ball sometimes you could take 7 points off that run-up score.

by DrZin on Dec 28, 2011 2:54 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

You're kidding mate.

The refs screwed us out of 2 points on the safety where we would’ve gotten the ball back.

They screwed us on the illegal hit which turned into a 3rd down conversion.

The blame falls on the D and not getting shit done in the redzone, but the refs dd have an impact. I’m almost certain I saw a ref congratulate Brees IN GAME.

"NLDS or bust" - Bobby Cox

by DopeFalcons on Dec 27, 2011 12:16 AM EST up reply actions

I don't have an issue with the refs congratulating him in game

If that happened, that’s fine. He just broke a record. I don’t think it’s as impressive as Marino’s record still, but he broke it in 15 games, I’m sure Mike Smith congratulated him too.

I’m not saying the ref was good, or unbias, or fair. I’m just saying we lose regardless of the refs. The Lofton call then Kelly no call were the only Katrina rule calls that came when the game was even close to in doubt.

We stopped him getting them for nearly an entire half, I don’t see why you bust your ass to get those thirty yards inside the 2 minute warning. It’s pretty classless, I wasn’t impressed with the record to the degree everyone else seems to be, seeing as Brady will get it next week anyway, plus the rule changes etc, but good for Brees. I know I’d be celebrating it too. I think it was classless that they pushed so hard for it when the game was done, but I’ve got no issues with them celebrating it.

Your goals as a fan, was it like

a) See the Saints win a superbowl
b) Have the Saints get back at the Falcons for 1973, when football was a lot less professional and rule changes/the media didn’t discourage running up a score.
c) Have the Saints win a game without the refs.

should be old enough and mature enough to see that football has changed a lot since 1973. For one, you can’t wear brass knuckles on the field anymore.

i think you have to take in mind...

that this record was a huge distaraction in NO locker room. They didnt want to spend a whole week talking about him needing 30 yards. even payton addmitted he would not generally do it but felt it was the right decision. Im sure the game being in prime time made the record alot more special for the team then him breaking against the panthers next week when no one outside the two home states can see it.

If he didn't get the record tonight, he would have had to play next week.

And the Saints know better than to think SF will lose to STL. They lost two important players on the final weekend last season in the faint hope the Falcons would lose to Carolina and they could steal the division. Losing those two players, Chris Ivory and Malcom Jenkins, cost them in the playoff game. Payton won’t take that risk again.

The TD at the end

Was reviewed, then the Saints called a timeout. Also Sean Payton informed the offiicials and the announcers before the game that if Brees did break the record the Saints would take a timeout in order to congratulate him. The announcers said this at the beginning of the game.

Can't wait to hear Smith embarrass himself at the presser by saying the same garbage he's been saying all season

This team is second tier at best and would be on the outside looking in if the bears hadn’t lost their QB and RB. We had two weeks to prepare for the packers and we saw what happend. We had almost two weeks for this game and saw what we see every week.

Simply put, this team has gotten as far as it can with the staff Smith put together. They fixed a broken team and that’s about all they can do. They’re not equipped to make adjustments in this NFL. This team was embarrassed tonight and what make it worse is we didn’t even go down fighting. We came out flat and ended by turtling up. way to show the world how far we’ve come.

Ooohhhhhh! Smitty said we have some things to work and we have to execute better. Oh he is so wise. What’s that you say? We had guys in the right position we just have to make the plays? Fascinating.

I appreciate your optimism Dave

I think the reason I have such a hard time feeling positive right now is because what you saw tonight is essentially what you’ve been seeing since the beginning of last year: a team that can’t put it together. They are less like a team and more like two talented but inconsistent units that happen to wear the same uniform. They don’t back each other up, don’t help each other build on anything, and they seem incapable of playing like a smart, cohesive group.

The fact that it was the Saints made it worse, but honestly, the Saints don’t bother me that much. They have weaknesses and they are beatable. The problem with the Falcons isn’t their opponent, it’s themselves. They are capable of beating anyone in this league, but they continue to kill themselves.

Until they figure that out, I have a hard time justifying getting excited about a playoff appearance. I like what this regime has done and perhaps it’s not fair to judge them against the history of the franchise, but i’m sick and tired of this. It’s either no hope or false hope with this team year after year, and it is franchises like this one that give credence to the notion of “curses” in sports (not to mention all the other ones in Atlanta).

by cheshire falcon on Dec 27, 2011 12:25 AM EST reply actions

You are being kind Cheshire

this has been the issue since day one with this coaching staff. They cannot beat top level teams, pure and simple. This is NO LONGER an issue with the players. It is not about the coaches.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 12:27 AM EST up reply actions

He has a point.

The only people that would start on Atlanta from NO would be Brees and maybe a reciever and their O Line. They aren’ that good without Brees. We cannot continue to settle for FG’s or we won’t beat anybody in the playoffs.

lol - my thoughts exactly

There is a contingent that believes “it’s always better to make the playoffs”, and I think that’s true, but only depending on where the team is. Where the Falcons are in the building process, it’s not better. It obviously wouldn’t be good to miss the playoffs, but it would be way worse to just get smoked in the first round, which is what is looking very likely right now.

That’s bullshit, and people who say that are fucking idiots. The playoffs aren’t a destination, just a path; getting in doesn’t mean a god-damned thing if you lose your first game. Every year.

No I'm tired

of people making posts than blame one player for a team loss. Throwing DR under the bus for this game is laughable. Is he the only one you saw making bad plays or just your personal focus? If there was another DB plyin in his place would ATL have won? Oh hell no. Try using some perspective on the loss.

Did you see the NO TD where the receiver was covered by Moore and DeCoud and was still wide open? BVG does not know how to position the safeties!! That is probably why DR had his hands in the air.

Fair point about it being a distraction for the week, but the runnign up a score thing is pretty much a Sean Peyton exclusive in the league. Not a rule, but something most teams seem to abide by. Agree to disagree I'd say

We’re fairly good at winning the games we should and blowing up big time in the games we have to earn. Look at the Bucs. They may have regressed, but not by much. Last year they had an overinflated season with the NFC West. As did the Falcons it seems. We’ve overachieved in areas.

We’ve got the talent but not the scheme. I wouldn’t be too worried about having to face us in a game with anything real on the line.

Ultimately, it comes down to attitude

Mike Smith did an amazing job rebuilding a broken team. We were happy with the playoffs. We were happy with winning seasons. Last year we were dissapointed ultimately, but impressed with the season as it was. This year, nothing less than an NFC Championship game would be realistically satisfactory. I don’t think that attitude has gotten to the coaches yet. It seems we’re happy to be an above average team, rather than be an excellent team. I think it’s an attitude overhaul that’s needed, be it through roster changes, coaching changes, front office changes…whatever it is. Our problem isn’t one of talent, or discipline. It’s one of attitude.

I think aggression too

I’m not asking for a Greg Williams 56% blitz scheme. I’m just asking for some aggression. BVG’s motivation seems to be not giving up plays over the top. In doing so we give up a lot between the corner and the safety. Our main goal isn’t getting to the quarterback, or disrupting the timing of routes. We let the offense do their thing, and try and prevent it once it’s in the air. I think that needs to change.

Exactly Turner. He basically coaches scared. I've posted this sad little opinion a few times

He’s horrified of giving up the big play as that will speed his demise. Instead we embarrass ourselves slowly. There was one play in the first half where Abe was looking around and you knew, KNEW that he was dropping into coverage and some fool LB was going to be eaten alive trying to blitz. We are going nowhere with BVG or MM.

Chuck Knox led the Rams to multiple division titles in the 70’s yet was fired because they couldn’t take the next step. No, we’re not there yet, but at some point pretty good isn’t going to be good enough.

We need a dynamic coach

I know people get caught up with Smitty bringing us winning seasons but how has he improved us after the 11-5 rookie year? Our 13-3 was a fluke against and easy schedule and lucky breaks. This team needs a new HC with an attitude of a champion. If we don’t win any playoff games this year there is no argument that can be made against this. Smitty should have already recognized the problem and made the necessary changes. He is a good mediator never too high or too low. Can he get this team mentally ready consistently is the real question.

I’d have been been hitting Brees late every single time he dropped back to pass with a huge lead a 2 minutes left until he started handing the ball off to his running back. That’s a big part of what keeps teams from running up the score, the fact that they’re facing someone who has nothing to lose by taking a roughing penalty or two.

It's hard to argue against that.

If Smitty is 0-3 in the playoffs, then I don’t see how he can keep his job without wholesale coaching staff changes, which also means offensive and defensive scheme changes.

Tom Coughlin is 8-7

Jon Gruden is 5-4

Don’t you think Dungy is a better coach than at least two of those?

I’m not saying that scheme changes don’t need to be made, and that 0-3 might require a long, hard look at the coaching staff and performance, but seems a bit silly to judge a coach by one thing.

The stats have pointed out for the last two years, if not more, that ATL cannot compete with playoff caliber teams. This single game was a relection on the weakness and ineptitude of the ENTIRE coaching staff. People getting excited about ATLs’ record since the bye, a high D ranking by football outsiders and a few other sites. Wake up fellers!! This team just backed ass first into the playoffs.

Giants? Their pass rush would kill Ryan and ATL can’t cover Cruze or stop their running game.

Dallas – a mobile QB with good WR’s. Ware would single handedly kill Ryan.

Ryan is actually quite good against the pash rush, He came out of the NOLA game fairly clean.

Makes you wonder what He’d look like, behind a good O-line. You really think that Dallas or NY would handle the Falcons that easily? One bad monday night showing, and you hit the panic button that hard?

Actually, after realizing what just happened, I'm PROUD of our NOLA effort!

You know, fellow Birdz fans, like you probably were, I was initially confused about our game plan and how we played tonight. Yeah, we could complain about “missed red zone conversions”, penalties killing us, BVG’s stubborn insistence on using that wonderful zone D, etc. Admittedly I fell into that same trap for awhile in tonight’s game. It was hard to take and harder to understand. Then it finally hit me! Everything fell into place and it all made sense to me. Read on and see what you think.

OK. Since we already clinched a playoff spot, and we’ve looked fairly good lately, and we won the darn division LAST year, I think Smitty allowed Coach Mularkey to change the original “winning” offensive plan early in the game. You know the one – that acknowledges and embraces our “identity” as a successful RUNNING team first. The successful RUN-based schemes in which we sustained powerful and time-consuming drives down the field, thereby giving ourselves more control of every game. Why did we so quickly abandon this time-eating, control-type of offense? Well, out of good ‘ol fashion southern hospitality of course! Now that I understand Coach Mularkey’s intentions, I’m PROUD of how nicely we treated Drew Brees and how we cooperated with the Saints to ensure he would obtain Dan Marino’s passing record TONIGHT. Against US!

Yes, sir,…. by almost immediately abandoning the run and emphasizing our “new greatest show on turf” passing game, and by not even THINKING about a potentially more effective man-to-man coverage based D, it was evident our coaching staff was in the holiday spirit! They wanted Mr. Brees to have all the time he needed on the field so he could break that elusive Marino season yardage record. You see, I think we felt kind of bad after that first 6-plus minute drive that kept Mr. Brees and the Saints O off the field for entirely too long, so MM proposed that we do the right thing. It was sweet of us to cooperate from then on by emphasizing our passing attack so as to not keep hogging all that silly “time of possession” which frustrates Mr. Brees and holds down the NOLA O’s point accumulation. Brilliant!

Yes, by playing our part tonight, we were more than gracious to NOLA and Drew, allowing them to reach those very nice accomplishments of Division Champs AND Drew breaking Marino’s record on OUR watch. Yep, after thinking about it, I’m PROUD to be part of an organization which cooperates with our division brothers so they can look good and earn those prized records. If not us, then it’s got to be a fellow Southern division club, right? I guess I learned a valuable lesson tonight: winning isn’t everything! It’s not always necessary to lead with, to establish, and to stick with the often-successful, “winning” running game which then sets up the play-action passing game. Tonight I have to hand it to Coach Mularkey: he realized this was an important night (and national stage!) for NOLA and Drew Brees to shine. To make all of us here in the Southern Division of the NFC look a bit more genteel and to allow us to be proud that we support the Saints as just one of us!

Now, what can we do for Tampa Bay?

Thing need to be fix

What we need are new tackles,OC and DC also a new RB. First the tackles were brutal getting beat by average pass rushers it was rediculous Ryan had no time this year yet still threw for 4000yrds because he is the truth. Now for coaching even the analysts were ripping on our soft zone we have the talent on D forced turnovers just need a new coach to help things work, offense same thing mularkey cant call plays turner is inneffective hes done as much as i hate to say it he has no more burst time to get a rb of the future. Also as much as i like tony we need a TE who can stretch the field hes nice but 5-8yrd plays dont cut it in this league now. Overall aslong as we have matt ryan julio jones and roddy white well a good team every year, im sure mike smith and TD will help us become great. You cant blame them for not making much changes cause they were going with what was working before but now just time for a OC/DC change oline upgrade other then that were fine

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:11 AM EST reply actions

Just a few observations from this game

I will make a very detailed post tomorrow afternoon…

Offense:

The following people have to be called out, Turner, HD, entire O-Line

Turner is either washed up, too old to carry 300 times a season, or hurt. Because he is not running like he did in 08.

HD, I don’t know if it’s Murlarkey’s play calling, Matt’s decision making, or HD just not getting it done. But he is a non-factor in games with Tony,JJ and Roddy playing. There is no excuse why with those two guys on the outside and Tony inside, he should not be getting targeted 25% of the time.

O-line, it’s just inexcusable for the QB to be pressured by a 3 man rush like he was tonight. It’s fucking JV level shit. Our tackles are absolute shit. Resigning Clabo instead of Dahl was a huge mistake. I think every OT on our team should be cut over the offseason.

Defense:

The following people have to be called out, Dunta, DeCoud, Abe, Ray

I saw Dunta get lost, get burned, and look awful. If the guy can’t play zone, either fix your defense, or get rid of him.

DeCoud makes some nice plays, but always has plays where it’s just WTF were you thinking. He is serviceable due to much higher needs next year. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he is allowed to walk after this year (I think his contract is up).

Abe and Ray, I know it’s Brees, but seriously 0 sacks between the two of them. Something isn’t right with the D-line. And I find it hard to believe with Ray, that his offseason surgery is impacting him this much. It’s gotta be scheming, or play calling. I don’t know what to think about Abe after taking a shit on Jacksonville’s tackles last week to this week.

Coaching:

Anything less than a Championship game, MM, BVG, D-line coach, and DB coach has to go.

Frankly, if all those above coaches aren’t gone, after 21 years of being a fan, I might not even watch a single game next year. I’m tired of the “oh, we have 4 straight winning seasons, it’s better than before.” You know what, settling for better than before isn’t good enough. We want more than that, we deserve more than that for being loyal fans. MM’s usefulness has worn out. He can’t handle the offense we have now. Same with BVG. I think they are so used to playing with mediocre talent, that they don’t know how to use good and great talent.

Matt Ryan was very good tonight

But tonight proved that even when Ryan plays well, this team cannot hang with good teams. Yet again we are embarrassed on national television against a good team. Major changes are needed on the coaching staff. If Smith wants to keep his job, he needs to replace MM and BVG, and completely revamp the defense. BVG’s scheme is an utter failure.

Matt Ryan

Have you not seen him ball this year, his first three years he had a good oline and run game now that he dosent have that hes starting to learn what it takes to win games. This is his 4th season but first as a qb who’s team throws more then runs

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:31 AM EST up reply actions

ATL threw more than ran last season

Wrong one that point. Was the offense more effective than last season? How was the red zone performance tonight? Did the JJ trade make the team more competitive against the likes of NO and GB?

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 1:32 AM EST up reply actions

I'd say it was more even

Last year we won games because turner controlled the clock and in the redzone he got tds today we couldnt get a 4th and one cause MT was getting stuffed all day, and when matt had to pass hes been under pressure all day, 4003yrds 27tds-12ints to last yrs 3700yrds 28-9 is progression, Aslong as we have matt well always have a shot at being a great team, just need the coaching staff to get it together

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:36 AM EST up reply actions

Progression based on better numbers?

That is a progression for Matt, not necessarily the team. Again, was the offense more effective this season? No it wasn’t. That is the gauge for improvement and progression, not more yards.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 1:39 AM EST up reply actions

With the way the nfl is today

As long as you have a great qb you have a shot, no the offense isnt necessarly effective as last season, but u can blame a horrendous oline for that no holes for the rb matt having to throw short passes hoping roddy or julio can turn them into big plays, if matt had the time he would shred nfl defenses one of the smartest qbs in the league

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:41 AM EST up reply actions

While your points are good

they are not valid to the discussion. Your point was about team progression and the team has not progressed.

Matt’s adjusted yards per attempt were higher this year than last so the short passes point doesn’t help you out on this case.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 1:44 AM EST up reply actions

For a team

with this many mistakes coaching flops to be in the playoffs is a good sign, all the penalties bad oline bad coaching you’d think wed be sub 500 but some how we still have a shot at the SB so if those things get fixed watch out no one can touch us, maybe then the jags wont have more monday night games then us smh

Keeping it real

sometimes hurts i was looking forward to this game from the first time i saw the scheduel, this loss really hurt esp to the Aints, but all the problems i saw can be fixed so there is still hope. The biggest problem for most teams in the nfl is to find a conistent qb/coach tandem we got that so were good, look at the ravens joe is fail how long do u think it will take them to find a qb who will help em win a ring

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:53 AM EST up reply actions

We Want to put fear in the hearts of those who appose us. Instead teams dont even flinch against the falcons. We have one of the worst fan bases. Arthur Blank’s influence (order?) on the very un-Thomas Dimitroff-like "give up 142 draft picks for one (fairly good) offensive player so we could be Packers clones and throw up 40 and 50-burgers all the time? Keeping Dahl was a far more important (and logical) goal that I’m almost certain TD would’ve planned for. Great (dynasty-type) franchises KEEP good, productive, intelligent O lines together for years! TD knows you don’t let the best O lineman you have go – especially after the line has finally developed into a solid, respected, and FEARED unit. Arthur, were you putting your nose into football operations again? PLEASE don’t!

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 1:32 AM EST reply actions

Prove it!

Seriously, how do you know? This might have been (probably is now) 88s last year and we had just gotten our clocks cleaned by the Packers in the playoff game. I can absolutely see AB getting ideas in his head to “put something together like the Packers have” – so we can win it all next (this) year. Dimitroff TRAINED in NE…. where they ACCUMULATE mass quantities of draft picks for future use… they NEVER would give away the farm like that. I think someone leaned on TD… and that someone must be Blank. If you have other proof I’ll stand down.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 1:37 AM EST up reply actions

After getting so emotionally involved with the Vick thing rumors were that he insisted he would never again stick his nose into football operations. He’s human, though (I assume). it's like BVG told his players

“Guys, it’s the saints.
I have not game plan, just do like I always do and bend over and take all in the rod of the all mighty Breesus (pauses…moans)
Oh yeah, just take it like a man”
You think the players would think to revolt after that.

Or smitty said

" A guys where in the playoffs. So try not to get hurt or tired or get in the way of Brees record." Players stare around the room. Smitty: " dont worry you still won’t have to come in till wed."

But 16 points against the Saints?
And 14 last year at home?
And giving up 45 to them for the first time since 2003?

scrapped the no huddle when Vilma was calling out his plays and the crowd noise. Svitek looked lost out there

Why the julio hate

He is an unreal WR look at what hes done so far add in that hes missed some time, yeah we gave up draft picks but who did the browns get, phil taylor looks like the only decent player among those picks so i say its a win esp with the way roddy has been playing

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:39 AM EST reply actions

Yeah, I am high on Julio

Yeah, he had an untimely fumble.

But the kid will be fine. He will be in beast mode by year three… maybe sooner.

by KEScottII on Dec 27, 2011 1:41 AM EST up reply actions

Year three

he will be unstoppable look at the fade plays no one can guard that, once he learns to stay away from the sideline a goal line fade for him will be automatic 6pts, dudes a stud kinda like moss and TO with out the drama

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:44 AM EST up reply actions

If you're replying to my post about this...

You missed my point. I’m NOT saying JJ is the problem…. he is the symptom. We didn’t just give up draft picks, we gave up DRAFT PICKS – significant positions affecting several years. 11 will eventually be a nice pickup for us, but he was not….. IS not …. “the final missing piece”. Sorry.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 1:42 AM EST up reply actions

At the time

those picks didnt seem that important because our oline was good and we added ray i think if td knew our line would of been bad he might not have done it but i am happy he did

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 1:45 AM EST up reply actions

WOW,... you're kidding, right?

The minute I heard we were going to allow Dahl to walk – and BREAK UP our solid, skilled, and feared O line just when they had arrived – I knew something was up. That’s not how consistently successful franchises do things. TD knows that which is why I doubt he pulled all the triggers this year.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 1:58 AM EST up reply actions

If they knew

this would happen i doubt they’d let dahl leave and keep clabo, i like blalock hes our best oline men, but its hard to make an assumption that one players make the line and in this case it might have

Who remembers that heady night awhile ago when the HEAVILY FAVORED Rams came to the Dome for a playoff game – and we waxed them something like 45-7. Now THAT was fun! Guess that’s how Aints fans are feeling right about now.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:00 AM EST up reply actions

I don't think the Falcons have scored that many points since

We scored 44 in the 2007 finale
45 in 2008 against the panthers
and 45 in 2009 against the niners, but not 47 and up.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:02 AM EST up reply actions

I'd prefer to not have to hang our hats

on things like that. Some teams expect to win and go out and perform. After forty five seasons I’m a bit tired of evenings like this. I never thought the Saints would win a Super Bowl before we did and outplay us tonight as they did. Sometims you have to really turn the corner.

A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.

by FrozenFinger on Dec 27, 2011 1:52 AM EST up reply actions

So funny

when I hear coach talk about they will “watch the tape and make the necessary corrections”. It’s week 16 the corrections should have already been made you had 10 or 11 days to prepare for a team you play at least twice every year. Also the players say after this game this is something they can learn from….they should be PH.D’s at learning from what the Saints do to them by now. Whenever the Falcons have an imbalanced offensive scheme they lose. Turner only ran the ball 11 times while Matt threw over 50 times…go back and check the stats for the season on wins and losses if Matt Ryan throws the ball over 35 times…not very good. Also look at the teams we have beaten this year and their records…not very good. In order for the Falcons to get pass a Packers team at home or a 49ers team at home or a Saints team at home it is going to take nothing short of a miracle. If we have to go to NY and play the Giants outside in the cold thats an ass whuppin. The only scenarios I see that Falcons have a chance are Cowboys (indoors) and Detroit (indoors) if we dont get one of those 2 teams in the first rd it’s 1anddone.com .

Turner running the ball 11 times

is on MM. Turner was getting decent yards but for some reason we wanted to sling it to victory

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 1:51 AM EST up reply actions

Turner needs to be a second option

I’m tired of seeing him run into the pile for 3 yard gains. We need a more agile runner to hit the outside quicker and who can catch out the backfield.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 1:58 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

that's why turner was so good in SD

he plays better as a backup
in 2008 he was fresh and not a lot of film on him with the Falcons
He’s still good but only as a second or third string guy.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:00 AM EST up reply actions

Huh?

Second or third string? Really?

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:04 AM EST up reply actions

There is nothing to support that

Even with a crappy OL, Ovie getting knocked out and a terrible OC MT was still #3 in rushing yards before this week.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:07 AM EST up reply actions

there was plenty to support that

and I just mentioned it.
Yes he get’s good yards, but when you over use him he wears down.
Mike Cox should be used more. He had a good block in the first saints game.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:10 AM EST up reply actions

Yes 2nd string

Or at least split equal reps with Snelling and quizz

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 2:09 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

that is what Quizz is for

but getting 1 carry you can only do so much. Turner is still a good RB the run blocking is the biggest problem they just pushed back so much Turner has to grind for his yards. Its the same with pass blocking the Saints were able to get pressure on Matt rushing only 3 or 4 guys.

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:01 AM EST up reply actions

Did you see how many catches MT had in the game?

Also, i don’t think he dropped a single pass, did he? We have a more agile runner that never gets used. None of those things help when MM is the OC. Also, have you seen how effective MT has been at running outside this year?

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:03 AM EST up reply actions

Quizz is basically Jerious Norwood 2.0

but healthier. Norwood was good at making catches in space and making something out of it and running outside. But for some stupid reason we kept running him up the gut instead of using his skills. Quizz should be used in the passing game more but doesnt we should be running screens to him but we cant run a screen to save a life

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:06 AM EST up reply actions

I Agree

everyone saying getting quizz might have been the steal of the draft for the most part it looked like it but i have no idea why he isnt on the field maybe its something in practise?

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 2:13 AM EST up reply actions

No, it's a moron for an OC

that has never developed an effective running game.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:14 AM EST up reply actions

True

I think u agreed with me before on this MM needs to go and so dose MT love him but no burst, lemichael james maybe or another rb to draft unless there is a good young one in fa but i doubt it

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:16 AM EST up reply actions

Shorter than Norwood’s, …. but his were like toothpicks. I still liked him, though.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:13 AM EST up reply actions

MMs been doing that for awhile now!

I think Smitty is too close to the situation…. and he IS a D-minded coach. MM lost the NOLA home game for us last year, he suddenly screwed up a promising start to the Packers game this year, … did the heavily-skewed passing thing in other losses, etc. We have NO offensive consistency or identity. Players pick up on this sheeyat!

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:05 AM EST up reply actions

i agree

to an extend.
I think the 2010 team had more depth however as they were working out some kinks.
But who knows what the falcons would have done in 2009 if they played like the final 3 games.
I loved how they beat the jets in their building in the snow when they went to the AFC Championship

Michael Turner

is not nor has he ever been the flashy take it to the house back. Turner is a punisher, a 245lb bowling ball. You have to be willing to give this guy the ball 20 plus times every game. He will wear down a defense and when the 4th qt comes he’ll usually break one to get his avg up. Granted he has lost some explosiveness but he is approaching 30 yrs old and some backs do tend to drop off at that age. Turner may not be the TYPE of back that some of us can appreciate however go look at his stats and you’ll see Turner is still one of the top 7 or 8 backs in the league. It’s just not pretty. Turner has been in Atl what 4 yrs and already has the TD record and I’m quite sure some of you think more of some of the previous backs that played for this team. Hell if not for Turner I don’t know that we would have even gone to the playoffs in Ryan’s rookie season nor would we have had back to back winning seasons. Michael Turner has been the MVP of this football team people. It doesn’t look pretty or flashy but without this guy running the rock the last 4 yrs we might still be waiting for consecutive winning seasons.

by Kushion on Dec 27, 2011 2:13 AM EST reply actions   1 recs

i just want the play calling to change alittle and use Quizz more.

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:14 AM EST up reply actions

Amen!

This scenario was evident in last year’s home NOLA game. We POUNDED NOLA with a MT-powered long drive at the end – what should have been the GAME winning drive. They could NOT stop our run game! So, what did MM do in the 1st or 2nd-and-goal situation to cap off that awesome MT and JS RUN drive? Called a PASS play! INT and game over. Ryan should have never been put in that position. RUN the dayum ball – especially when it’s working like a steam roller!

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:25 AM EST up reply actions

No shit

But that doesn’t mean he should get 80% of the touches. There going to run him in the ground. They need to balance it more instead of bringing quizz in on 3rd downs to give the illusion that there going to use him. I’m ok with turner starting but they have to balance the workload better.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 2:28 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:28 AM EST up reply actions

4 is production?

He still not a viable safety. He takes bad angled on a ridiculous amount of plays and most of his ints are deflections in which beerman or Babs could catch.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 2:44 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

i wouldnt blame this all on Decoud

we couldnt get consistent pressure on Brees and he just had time to sit in the pocket and find the holes in the zones.

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:29 AM EST up reply actions

it's two reasons

The DL scheme doesn’t collapse the pocket for Brees and other QB’s effectively, and our pourous secondary that allows three sumo wrestlers to wallow through our coverage of a receiver makes it easier for the QB to get rid of the ball before Abraham can snack on him.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:31 AM EST up reply actions

yea plus

we never play bump and run. we dont even try to knock receivers off their routes.

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:32 AM EST up reply actions

yea

if we cant get pressure on a QB we need to knock WRs off their routes to give our pass rush more time but we never do and that is on BVG

@KEScottll

I will take a fs who dose not routinly get beat deep over one who dose but gets picks, if safetys are stout in coverage qbs have hard time going 8-8 on third down, you cant count on dr or bg to stick on wrs, side note how good is d franks hes a stud

You are a respected, knowledgeable poster mwalex but....

“numbers” don’t always tell the story. Decoud is definitely not as effective as he was – or as he was projected to be. Not gonna give you “stats”, just anecdotal stuff.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:29 AM EST up reply actions

STATS DONT WIN GAMES

im pretty sure we out gained new orleans last game, got more picks them them today matt ryan threw for more yards and we still lost, why cause minus the two plays made by moore and dr not decoud brees went 8-8 on 3rd down beat dbs deep and seeing DR look back at TD and be like cmon man

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 2:33 AM EST up reply actions

Stats can predict outcomes and

explain what happened. Your arguement is laughable because I can provide stats that will devalidate every one of your points.

It’s also stupid to say “stats don’t win games”.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:37 AM EST up reply actions

They don't lol

Are you serious? I’m pretty sure stats say if you have a 34-22 lead with less than 5 mins left you should win the game. Stats are just for nerds who want to try and find an explanation for everything that happens. Stats don’t factor in the human element tho.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 2:43 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Depends on the stats you look at

and being up 34-22 with 5 minutes left in no way means you should win the game. It all depends on the level of information you want to dig into.

Your comment about stats and nerds is funny but not for the reasons you’d think.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:48 AM EST up reply actions

no no no

matt is 22-0 with a passer rating of 100+ dose that mean once he reaches it we can just sit on the ball and automatically win cmon man

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:51 AM EST up reply actions

are you actually saying DeCoud is worse? I don’t think so.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:28 AM EST up reply actions

Actually

I would say the main culprits in the secondary are Decoud and Robinson. Not sure who is worse, but i would probably lean Dunta.

Decoud is a FS. He shouldn’t be getting beat deep. Remember the long megatron td? That was him too.

by KEScottII on Dec 27, 2011 2:31 AM EST up reply actions

I have to laugh at this arguement

ATL’s pass coverage scheme hangs ALL of their DB’s and safeties out to dry. Moore gets beaten way to often for a SS also. Until a better DC is in place no one knows how good or bad the defensive players are.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:35 AM EST up reply actions

I see your point

Can’t argue that.

You are supposed to put players in a position to succeed and it seems BVG doesn’t know how to do that.

by KEScottII on Dec 27, 2011 2:37 AM EST up reply actions

And that is the reason why

adding talent to the D hasn’t improved the performance that much and why players leave ATL and do better elsewhere.

by mwalex on Dec 27, 2011 2:38 AM EST up reply actions

Lost in all of this

Ryan now has over 4000 yards this season.

by KEScottII on Dec 27, 2011 2:24 AM EST reply actions

I tried

telling everyone that but one listened no optimisum here…

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 2:25 AM EST up reply actions

Ryan has had a pretty good season

he really made up for all those INT he threw earlier in the season. Those along with the O Line playing like garbage this season could have been worse

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:26 AM EST up reply actions

When the hell did that happen?

you mean 4000 yards over the last 4 seasons?

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:27 AM EST up reply actions

That PLUS...

I admire the hell out of him just for surviving (without whining) the first part of the season when Our O line bleaux (more than it does now). The kid has smarts and guts at least.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:32 AM EST up reply actions

our pass rush has been horrible all season

And it’s documented. Abe and Ray have just disappeared. Not sure what is up with those two. Edwards is good as Runstopping, but I really don’t know where the pass rush went.

by KEScottII on Dec 27, 2011 2:36 AM EST up reply actions

Abe is still good

but the NO line is pretty good.

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:37 AM EST up reply actions

that's what we said about him in 2009

He’s actually getting good pressure consistently.
The pocket isn’t collapsing for the QB.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:38 AM EST up reply actions

i dont wanna hear that

he missed several tackles tonight, if it wasnt for Blaine Gabbert he would only have 5.5 sacks. Quit making excuses for him

by Trae FrankSinatra Starz on Dec 27, 2011 2:39 AM EST up reply actions

everyone is missing tackles.

Don’t look at Abe because he’s old and you expect more from him.
At least he’s the only one close enough to even whiff at him.
What about the other Dlinemen?

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:41 AM EST up reply actions

I meant sacks

Look At all the other good pass rushers in the league. they have double digit sacks, with all the passing going on. we have none with double digits. if he is so good and elite where is the production? he and Ray. i will listen to you when i see results until then i will keep complaining about the 2

by Trae FrankSinatra Starz on Dec 27, 2011 2:43 AM EST up reply actions

but again

no one else on the team is getting sacks.
I still think this is a coaching problem.
If you look at mwalex comments.
A lot of players leave to play somewhere else…and all of a sudden they shine like never before.
Atlanta has a bad low IQ coaching staff.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:46 AM EST up reply actions

Yet im not talking about the other players

i am talking about ABE!!! i dont expect sacks from BIERMAN, i expect it from John Abraham. Coaching has nothing to do with his individual effort. He is a all time leader in sacks he doesnt need to be coached on it. Either he gets production or not. and he is not getting it. I promise i will let you personally shut me up if he picks his game up

by Trae FrankSinatra Starz on Dec 27, 2011 2:49 AM EST up reply actions

Sacks isn't as individual as you think

He could be having a down year, but he always picks it up the next. I still think it’s the scheme they are playing that’s affecting abraham to answer your question. Since other guys aren’t a factor…it makes abraham job much harder…and the secondary is leaving gaping holes so it’s affecting his play.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:56 AM EST up reply actions

it's both

the defense works as a cohesion

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 3:08 AM EST up reply actions

besides

Don’t you think the gaping holes in the secondary is just as bad?
In 2009 they let go of a FA CB we had, we went with young CB.
all of a sudden we started getting less sacks and huge plays.
So it’s both.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 3:10 AM EST up reply actions

naaa i like our secondary

they make plays alot without pass rush imagine what they can do if we had pass rush

by Trae FrankSinatra Starz on Dec 27, 2011 3:11 AM EST up reply actions

i cant wait for HD

to leave and become the next Wes Welker

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:50 AM EST up reply actions

We need one of them HUGE nose tackles...

like good ‘ol Grady Jackson or what’s his name up in Green Bay…lol.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:40 AM EST up reply actions

they should have kept him

He was a major reason the Falcons D was good in 2008

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:41 AM EST up reply actions

no he isnt

he is still our best pass rusher and one of the best in the league. If we didnt have Abe this defense would be even worse

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:39 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah but he is bipolar

Good season bad season he needs to be a little more consistent.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 3:03 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Personally?

I hate beating a dead horse. Sorry.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:33 AM EST reply actions

or a falcon

but the saints did that for the record.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 2:35 AM EST up reply actions

heh-heh-heh

I’m getting tired. This was supposed to be a smart-arse reply to T F Sinatra’s Q above.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 2:42 AM EST up reply actions

lol

we should have MM call the plays on D

by Erihury on Dec 27, 2011 2:54 AM EST up reply actions

THIS

He has to be good at that. Just look how good he makes opposing Defenses look.

by KEScottII on Dec 27, 2011 2:55 AM EST up reply actions

I want a

DC who will bring swag to the team, the punch in the face menality and take shit from no one, maybe them well be the team beating up on nwo 45-16

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 2:57 AM EST up reply actions

Rob Ryan?

I would love to get tucker from Jax. He’s a up and coming coach with passion.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 3:00 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:02 AM EST up reply actions

I was jk lol

I think oc is more urgent tho. Would love to get norv

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 3:06 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

oh alright lol

i hate the ryans with a passion but norv would be good just look at sd offense, maybe mike schula or any team with a high powered offense

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:11 AM EST up reply actions

not sure

they are more of a product of good defense and a stacked offense but hes still prob better then MM, just a young creative dude who will fit in with mattys skill set

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:19 AM EST up reply actions

Speaking of Matty's skill set...

I’ve said this before: AB could save MM’s salary, let #2 run the no huddle all game long, and put the saved millions to use somewhere else it’s needed!

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 3:27 AM EST up reply actions

if the Falcons every beat the saints with that score

I could win my EX back and a new girl.
And live in a fabulous mansion.
Because I’m F A S T!!!!

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 3:04 AM EST up reply actions

we did it

3yrs ago remember it was 30-13 then they got a hail mary but none the less it was a blow out

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:06 AM EST up reply actions

34-20

Brees scored on the last second.
I Loved that win!

First and best win against Brees.
I thought we turned a corner against them then.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 3:07 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah buddy

norwood 67yrd td, chevis jackson 95yrd int return td, drew brees hold ma diiiiiick

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:08 AM EST up reply actions

Drew

makes alot of bone head plays, hes a product of amazing coaching and stable offense/oline play dude hasnt been touched in 5yrs play payton is a genius

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:14 AM EST up reply actions

Naw my fav memory

Is when the great Gary Anderson who hadn’t missed a kick in 2 years whiffs one and mort goes on to beat the best team that never made it to the Super Bowl.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 3:16 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Didn't MM....

….think he was in line for a head coaching job this year? lol

by TimmyC911 on Dec 27, 2011 3:00 AM EST reply actions

Last year he was supposed to be interviewed by the Browns.

I’m from Ohio so I told all my Falcs buds I’d VOLUNTEER to drive him UP to Cleveland! lol.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 3:16 AM EST up reply actions

Thanks... glad to bring some laughter.

Hell, this year I might even try to scrape up enough to charter him a Learjet to go somewhere. Anywhere!

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 3:21 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah

but then that team that signs him will want your head after he regresses them another 4yrs

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:23 AM EST up reply actions

I'm thinking

The Falcons kept their second round pick but trade back on their 3rd and get and extra 5 or 6th rounder or something.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 3:03 AM EST reply actions

This a deep draft for what we need to

A te or de or ot in the second and maybe a rb or fs in the 3rd and 4th

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 3:08 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

For OC

We need a guy who eats sleeps and breaths football, a dude who is creative yet smart a younger guy, all these old coaches tend to be to conservative in other words we need a firey oc who has diveristy in play calling

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:04 AM EST reply actions

Bulls fan too

ahah yess my dude, i also like the raps cause i live in canada but they suck..

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:12 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah i know it is the nba

But if you can find a dedicated hungry coach it can change your whole persona.

by pierre02 on Dec 27, 2011 3:13 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

No its true

look at mike tomlin, mcarthy, payton, only older dude doing work is bill belichek

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:15 AM EST up reply actions

dont be

nothing really special here unless you love snow

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:16 AM EST up reply actions

I'm fine with snow

as long as it doesn’t melt to refreeze and I have to drive in ice.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 3:17 AM EST up reply actions

that happens quite a bit

cause it snows then rains here you end up driving on black ice

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:18 AM EST up reply actions

aye

that happened here in january
it melted in a slush and refroze.
We were iced in for three days
So we chopped up the driveway for about three hours.
I’ll choose my area strategically.

by brotherbrown on Dec 27, 2011 3:19 AM EST up reply actions

we've had it bad

i remember once everything was ice i tried walking to school and when i stopped at a red light i just slid down the road

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:22 AM EST up reply actions

the school

was like 3min away from my house, had i known the roads were skating rinks i would stayed home instead of having to hug stop light poles to stop my self from sliding

by Nedk23 on Dec 27, 2011 3:25 AM EST up reply actions

bb, if you're here in ATL

… have you looked out the window lately? Freezing rain I think.

by LongTimeFalcsSTHer on Dec 27, 2011 3:23 AM EST up reply actions

All facets

I am as big a fan of Matt Ryan as anyone out there but here;s the deal. Brady, Brees, Rogers and the like can beat you with an underneath passing game BECAUSE they have proven they can throw effectively over the top. Ryan has yet to establish that part of his game and until he does, the Falcons will not win these types of games. Also, red zone performance was dreadful. Team is far from where they were last year and that as we saw was not good enough, Too much more can be said but Ryan makes BIG BUCKS so he has to win these types of games and soon if he wants to be what the organization expects him to be.

by mrm13 on Dec 27, 2011 7:32 AM EST reply actions

Matt Ryan

was one of the FEW bright spots last night, he through maybe 2 or 3 bad passes all night, and that’s a lot seeing that the OL couldn’t block anything last night,

*In Matt I Trust*
