This is getting interesting to say the least!!
And yes, I know there are still 5 more weeks of football left but Join me after the jump anyway if you wish…
An Aint's loss puts us in a tie atop the division but then puts 5 NFC teams at 7-4 with only 2 wild card slots but is does create the NFC South division lead tie.
An Aint's win still has them one game up with still the possibility of catching them if they falter later and we beat them at their house. But, the only teams sitting at 7-4 for the wild card will be Chicago, Detroit and us with Chicago holding the tie breaker over Atlanta; Detroit holding the tie breaker over Chicago and Atlanta holding the tie breaker over Detroit.
Now say the Aint’s lose and we now have that shot at the division; the NYG would then hold the tie breaker over the Aint’s and NYG does not play any of the other teams in the race and makes them kind of a spoiler; same with Dallas if that division flip-flops also, as well as Dallas has only played Detroit and beat them owning that tie breaker there as well. To top that all off…NYG and Dallas still have both of their games to play with only 5 weeks left in the season…whoa!!
The NFC West is a non-factor in all of this save the week 13 game of Dallas @ Arizona and the week 15 game of Seattle at Chicago (which could end up being HUGE for Atlanta). Other than those two games they do not factor in the wild card picture at all and San Francisco only needs to worry about their “Bye” standings (which may or may not be in contention…but I will say they pretty much have it wrapped up).
So, the NFC East can either help or throw a big monkey wrench into ALL of this NFC North/South mess we have got going on!!
