SB Nation Atlanta Editor's Pick
Ask Music City Miracles!
Hey there Falcons fans!!
I'm here to answer any questions anyone has about the Tennessee Titans. This is a very conflicting game for me as I live in the ATL but root for the Titans and follow the hometown team a lot. It's the game I circled on the calendar when the schedule was first released. I'll try my best to answer everyone's questions or my fellow MCM friends will help me out. Quick story on my name(so no one asks it 5 million times): I left the Broncos fan base thanks to the Tebow pick and settled on the Titans. Also, yes I believe Mike Mularkey is full of mularkey and needs to be fired. Here's to a great game!

Firstly, what's the fan-base thought of CJ2K's year?
It’s obviously been a huge disappointment numbers wise, but is he just not getting the carries? My opinion has always been that his 2k year they designed the offense around him, running that Vince Young triple option a lot, but what’s the consensus over in Titan-land? Keep starting him? Bench him? Trade him? Make him fight Cortland Finnegan to the death?

the fan base has been interesting about that issue this year
he’s getting the carries but not doing much with them. The biggest divisive issue is who is more to blame, CJ3.0ypc not being in game shape or the OL is so crappy in run blocking. I believe it’s a mix of both. Most people realize we have to keep on starting him due to the $$$ we gave him. There has been a vocal minority that has mentioned the idea of benching him or cutting/trading him outright. He had a good game last week vs the Panthers but evidently everyone has a good day against them

The fanbase is general in being as bipolar as ever with CJ.
Right now we’re just hoping the last 2 games are a sign that CJ2K is back to being himself. The decision to give CJ less carries and give more to our backup RB Ringer caused celebration in our fanbase, which should give you an idea of how far CJ has fallen in favor with Titans fans.
Though, of course, his ill-thought-out Twitter comments don’t help much…
There is no consensus right now. Some want to keep starting him, some want him benched.

I bet we run it up the gut all game.
When Mularkey gets nervous he yells “run it again!” over and over.

let's just say Mularkey makes our former OC (bless his departed soul, RIP) Dinger look like Norv Turner (as an OC)
I was glad to see Musgrave leave for the Vikes. Now if Smitty can get rid of Coach BS this year, they’d be in business

Well so far he looks like he's right.
Didn’t Tebow just complete 2 total passes in the last game he played?

You're supposed to be a fan of a team...
bad personnel moves, drafts, mularkeys, and all that other bad stuff….
the day I jump off the Falcons bus is the day that tebow gets traded to the Falcons
Just kidding… I wouldn’t support the move, but I would still support the team.
Loyalty
One day....
Well, there's more to it in this case.
nolesbroncos, as his name suggests, is a Florida State Seminoles fan first and was a Broncos fan second. Tebow played for the Florida Gators and achieved cult status in the state of Florida, much to the chagrin of Florida State fans like our guy here.
So, after the Broncos drafted Tebow, the ‘Noles fan in him couldn’t support that team anymore.
Not to mention that when MCM had their version of this “Ask MCM” thread on the Broncos blog, it turned into a “verbally massacre nolesbroncos” thread, and then completely devolved into petty shots at him and the Titans alike. So I don’t blame him for leaving Mile High Report either, because most of the guys there didn’t seem very classy to me.
Music City Miracles rarely goes past harmless ribbing of fellow members. And noles seems like a cool guy, so it’s their loss and our gain.
RIP Dinger

I don’t want to sound like I’m being a big internet meany when I say this-
I’ll stick to the Falcons for the rest of my life- through storms and dark times or bright light shining upon a talented team, I shall be there to rise up.

How is the passing game holding up
It seems a bit messed up right now, after the big start from Hasselbeck he seems to have calmed down (probably not helped by the loss of Britt). So who are your relevant WR’s now? Also whats the state with Donnie Avery, he seems to have done nothing since joining the team?
Be sure to check out this week's Best Case/Worst Case article here.
Nate Washington was already established as a relevant WR at the beginning of the season.
We nicknamed him “Hands” in years past because his hands were terrible. He’d drop balls when he was wide open or in the endzone. Now, his nickname is still “Hands”, but that’s because he’s catching pretty much everything that’s coming this way.
Another wide receiver that’s stepping up is Damian Williams, who our coach Munchak actually publicly called out for not playing better a few weeks ago. It’s two weeks in a row now that D-Will has caught a ball that would’ve been tough for any wide receiver to get.
There’s two possible receiving threats that have been wildly inconsistent this year for us too. Lavelle Hawkins, and Jared Cook. The latter is actually a tight end but he might as well be a wide receiver.
Donnie Avery was actually signed because he has experience with coming back from an ACL tear (like Kenny Britt currently has). That’s the real reason he’s a Titan; because he can help our best WR get back on the field easier next season.
The only notable thing Avery has really done was drawing pass interference against the Texans. Other than that, he’s been quiet on the field. But, like I said, it’s an off-the-field purpose that we signed him for.

Nate Washington sounds like Roddy White
a few years ago White dropped so much, then he became the best WR in the league last year and now he is back to his drop-tastic ways. Do you think Washington is good enough to deal with a #1 CB? We have had issues in pass coverage this year but I can’t figure out just how deadly you guys are and if we can get away with some sloppy defence without being killed.
Also that’s a shame to think Avery can’t contribute just a bit to the team, he was one of my favorite non-Falcons players when he played for the Rams and I was disappointed to see him let go and I was hoping for big things
Be sure to check out this week's Best Case/Worst Case article here.
No, personally, I don't think he is good enough to deal with a #1 CB.
He made a lot more plays when he was on the other side of Kenny Britt. Of course, Nate has still made plays despite being covered by the opposing #1 CB, so it’s not like he’ll be completely shut down if you put your best cornerback on him.
You could get away with sloppy defense as long as you have an epic pass rush at the same time. Matt Hasselbeck has shown that if you give him decent time in the pocket, he will make all types of throws, and will burn you if you make a mistake. Again, though, that’s only if he gets good protection. And all of the above doesn’t matter if our receivers don’t make the catches.
So, in short: Matt Hasselbeck will take advantage of your pass coverage issues if you don’t get pressure on him. If you can get to him in the pocket, then your pass defense will have a good game.
RIP Dinger

this. It seems our pass blocking switched spots with the run blocking last week vs the Panthers
Hass had 0.5 seconds to throw on almost every snap.

the passing game is doing decent considering we lost KB early on
Hass is the type that won’t wow you with huge #s but won’t kill you like Cutler throwing picks into triple coverage often. He likes to spread the ball around. Our best WRs are Nate Washington and Damian Williams. Williams was playing like crap early on but since KB went out, he’s been slowly putting it together. Washington got banged up last week. Regarding Avery, he sees the field but can’t seem to put it together with Hass.

How is Derrick Morgan doing in your opinion?
I know injuries have really slowed the start of his career, but he was a force during his time at GT and I think you picked up a great player with a great future. My opinion might be slightly biased so I was interested to get your opinions.

Derrick Morgan has been a bit of a disappointment in Tennessee.
We were hoping that he’d be a force in the NFL, but so far he’s looked mediocre. However, the coaching staff is still trying to find a way to let Morgan play more snaps at DE, so maybe they’re seeing something more to him than he’s shown so far.

He is coming off of an ACL injury and although he is 100% physically healed, there is the mental aspect that he is dealing with...
He should have the confidence after 9 weeks to know that he can do the things necessary to compete on a high level. I think the second half of the season will gauge if he’s living up to expectations.
he's doing a good job considering his injury from last year takes 2 years to fully heal (1 for the physical rehab, 1 for the mental side of things i.e trusting the knee will hold up)
The fact that a new scheme was put in place probably hampered him a little with such a short time to digest it all. Next year will be his breakout year.

my bad noles...
should of read your reply first.
What are you're areas of strength and weakness?
To make it more specific… Which areas of your team are you more worried/less about than other compared with what your matching up against.

Hmm...
More worried:
LB – Barrett Ruud is the worst starting middle linebacker in the league right now.
WR – So much inconsistency… so little experience.
HB – Chris Johnson has defined inconsistency this year, and we’re ranked last in the run for a reason.
Least worried:
QB – I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but Matt Hasselbeck actually has better numbers than Matt Ryan this year.
CB – Our corners have been awesome this year, especially against the opposing #1 WR’s.
FB – Ahmad Hall is awesome. That is all.
RIP Dinger

Our biggest strength is the secondary and weakness would be OL
The linebackers have to show up this game to stop Tony G and help on Turner. We can’t stop the TE even if he was in a wheelchair running routes this year. The secondary has been great this year and I see them stopping Roddy and Julio (if he can go). The OL is hit and miss sometimes on run blocking and pass block became an issue last week. The DL should neutralize whatever Svitek does and get to Ryan fairly quickly also. Having Baker out there for you would be very advantageous for us too. Also another weakness of ours isn’t playing 4 quarters. We tend to let the opposition blow up in the 1st Quarter, try to mount a comeback during the 2nd and 3rd, and eventually fall short in the 4th.

To add to the O-line issue...
our tackles are very strong at pass blocking, they rank 5 and 7 in the league. We have only given up 13 sacks (tied 3rd best) and 31 QB hits (1st). So, I would say the majority of the problems are with the run blocking.

I haven’t seen one.
Maybe I'll edit mine and link to some hardcore stuff
Then that would certainly take the cake
One day....
is
Matt Hasselback going to tear up our secondary? how good is your O Line? and is Chris Johnson going to explode on our D ?
O line is great at pass blocking
but its a total 180 in run blocking, CJ did have a good game with about 170 yards from scrimmage, but the O-Line in run blocking is slowing us down from being a dual threat team.
I have a weird feeling that he will.
i’m not expecting this, lol but it would be nice
by Ice0ne (CAJ) on Nov 18, 2011 8:03 AM EST up reply actions
Hmm..
Matt Hasselbeck could tear up your secondary if you don’t get a pass rush on him.
Our O-line is either good blocking for the run and terrible blocking for the pass, or good blocking for the pass and terrible blocking for the run. So, they’re half good and half bad.
Chris Johnson hasn’t been explosive this year, but if your guys don’t stay disciplined, he can still push it upfield and burn you.
