Falcons-Packers Series History

Hi Falcoholics, Please disregard the article that I posted earlier today about being on hiatus. I got some great comments on that, e-mails from friends, and most importantly, my wife and five year old daughter, who gave me an earful about all this.

So, now, the next installment of the 2011 opponents series history: The Packers. The series in the regular season is tied all time at 12, with the Falcons winning the last two, 2008, in GB, 2010, in the ATL. Both great ball games.

The 2008 game, in opinion, put this team on the map, when most didn't give them a shot of winning, and they went into Lambeau, and basically Micheal Turnered them to death, 27-24. And the one last year should of been the playoff game, 20-17.

We all know what took place in that game. There have been some doozies in this series, the 1981 game in GB, saw the Falcons play like total crap for three quarters, then just smoked the Packers with 31 fourth quarter points, which is still an NFL record for most fourth quarter points, 31-17. Got this game on VHS, a joy to watch! In 1983, in the ATL, an exciting back and fourth affair that went into OT, which ended when Packers QB Len Dickey throw a pick to Kenny Johnson, who ran it back for the winning TD, 47-41.

The 1991 game, also in the ATL, was another play like crap game for the first half, with the Falcons down, 24-7, then storming back with the play of Chris Miller to win, 35-31. And, I usually don't talk about losses to much, but the 2002 regular season game, was pretty good with the Falcons forcing OT, after being down big, only to lose to Brett and crew, 37-34. That game was in GB. A sign of things to come for that season. If there is anything as a"feel good loss" that one was it.

The Packers lead the postseason series, 2-1. All Falcon fans know the results of those games, and don't need to go over with here. As for this game, again I'm not predicting a score, but I see a high scoring affair that maybe decided by either a big play or a score off a turnover.

I will be back next week with the next installment: The Panthers.
