The Falcoholic Is Five Years Old Today
In blog years, we are really old.
On October 20, 2006, I put up my first post for The Falcoholic. It was your standard welcome affair, trying to hit the ground running in the middle of what would be a contentious season. At the time, I was a 22-year-old college student studying for a journalism degree, wooing my future wife and captaining the world's sorriest flag football team through its third losing season. Those were simpler times.
Back in 2006, we posted maybe once a day, didn't have access to the quality photos we do now and we were writing about a team that had Jim Mora Jr. as a coach, Michael Vick as a quarterback and Warrick Dunn at running back. And when I say we, I mean me, because at that point Adam, Caleb, James, Jason and Jeanna were just twinkles in The Falcoholic's eye. As time went on and the team went from national laughingstock to serious playoff contender, new readers came in, we added to the roster and The Falcoholic, in my humble opinion, got better and better.
I didn't get a ton of submissions for favorite articles over the life of the site, so I'm not going to do a detailed retrospective of our posts over the years. Besides, you've heard the detailed story of the site many times before, and there's only so many ways I can make sitting on my butt and writing posts sound exciting. You probably also have no interest in reliving the halcyon days of 2006 and 2007 for the Falcons.
Suffice to say The Falcoholic has traveled a long road over the last half-decade, and I'm enormously grateful for the countless opportunities I've been given, the praise you've all been so generous with, and the times I've totally embarrassed myself by predicting Matt Ryan wouldn't be any good or enthusiastically championing David Irons. It's been a humbling experience, to say the least.
I do want to thank every one of you, too. I've been exceptionally fortunate to have a laid-back, talented group of co-writers, a team and local media that's been Falcoholic friendly for years and the best damn readers on SB Nation, period. One love to all of you.
Take a moment to reflect, sing Happy Birthday or just talk Falcons. That's what we're here for, and that's what we'll always be here for.
Oh, and just as a housekeeping note, I'm taking a week's vacation and leaving you all in Adam, Caleb, James and Jeanna's capable hands. Enjoy!

Well
That’s what we’re here for, and that’s what we’ll always be here for.
You damn well better be!
Congrats and Thanks.
yeah
I was just looking at falcoholic archives when hardly anyone commented after you wrote posts. And to see the comments grow season after season just shows you all must be doing something right.
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
Dave is the second best babysitter I've ever known.
We won’t talk about what made the best babysitter the BEST but let’s just sum it up by saying Dave’s not really a close second best but he runs a hell of a site. Cheers Señor Dave!

No worries.
I’m gonna be what I be. If only I cared what people thought, gets me in to trouble.

Rec'd
I’ve not been on the site for long, but I can easily say this is one of the best online communities I’ve participated in. After brief – and disappointing – forays at ESPN and the AJC, this is easily the best place for a Falcons fan to congregate with others of our ilk.
Happy Birthday
And Thank You for allowing us to share in one of our favorite passions: Falcons football!
Evil Falcon
Happy Birthday + Thanks for the Falcons therapy you provide to all of us
Knowing I can vent and hang out here has saved DVI monitors + HD TV screens galore! Seriously though I love the site and comradarie with other die hard Falcons fans.
Thanks for everything Sir
This is the best place to talk Falcons and being from New York an amazing way to connect with fellow fans…thanks for running such an amazing site!
I'm the young one here.

For He's a jolly good website,
Been reading for a lil over 2 years now, just posted my first comment like 3 days ago.
This is by far the best place to go to talk to like minded Falcons Fans. I recently moved back to Ga and have only run into 2 maybe 3 Falc’s Fans. I tell everyone else to sit and twirl.
Good, scratch that, GREAT site, look forward to becoming a contributing member.
Also Falcons in The Savannah, Midway,Hinesville, Brunswick area hmu, I need a gameday posse for shizz!

April 1974 - Tug McGraw, when asked if he preferred grass or AstroTurf: "I don't know. I never smoked AstroTurf."
Now, name each smiley face.
I will go with Jenna being the one with the red bow (obviously) and Dave being on the first balloon with that “worried” look on his face or is it confusion…lol

I just died laughing.
Sincerely, the smiley face with the red bow!

Said it many times before, and I hope to say it many times more
but this my favorite and most-frequented site on the whole interwebz. Love coming here to read and talk Falcons football. It makes it even better that the site is so superb and the company is slightly better than mediocre most of the time, at least.
Let’s hope by the next 5 year birthday, there will be a couple/few Lombardi’s hanging out in Flowery Branch and/or the Dome.
Happy Birthday!
I’ve been around since the drafting of Ryan. Time has flown by! Let’s keep this thing going!

New to this blog and love it. Wish I knew about it sooner. Living in southern California it’s tough to find fellow fans. Keep up the great work

Want to also throw out a thanks to everyone as well.
I’ve been around this site for about ~2 of the 5 years, and it’s been a real pleasure to be a part of this community. I’ve said it before, but I consider you guys my second family. Heck, we don’t even get along half the time!
But that’s alright. I really love this blog. I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything. Here’s to many more years (and many Super Bowls) together!

we’ll HAVE to throw a HUGE party once we get it. I’m flying and/or driving to Atlanta no matter what for this event. I’ll photoshop the fliers if I have to
One day....
Oh man.
I will find my way to said party, regardless of where I am in my life.
Gotta win it first!

Thanks for the great site.
You guys have made this my favorite football site and primary Falcon site. Keep up the great work. Here’s to many more years!
Happy Birthday!
This is my homepage. I don’t always post but I always read. All of you do a superb job, with special thanks to Dave. All that you all do is very much appreciated. Keep up the good work

Congrats
You have truly made this a great place for Falcons fans to congregate. I’m always on this site at work-instead of actually working, so it helps my day go by quicker.
This place has always been like a 2nd home to me
Congrats and keep up the good work Falcoholics!
If I am not addicted to pain, then why am I a fan of Atlanta sports?

Happy Birthday!!
I’m so glad I stumbled upon this website a couple years or so back, it is nothing less than the greatest falcon fan website out there. I’m thankful for everybody that posts here and is part of the community. I wish i posted more, you guys are all great
Happy B-day!!!!!
I still remember the first time I posted. It was on the possibility of the Falcons moving to L.A. Being from L.A. you’d think I’d be all for it but no! I was again it! And I waxed on poetically(ha!) about it. Well, to my surprise, a lot of u responded kindly! I grew up never having hung out w/anyone to root for my team with. Unless u count the pity rooting my family would give me as we were pounded senseless by the cowboys or raiders. Now, I can finally say, thanks to this site, Ive hung out and cheered for my team w/honest to goodness Falcon fans, Kashberry and Falconplanet. All because of a funny little site I stumbled upon searching for porn, I mean football stats.
Happy Birthday
Really like the site. Favorite parts are “Ask the (opposing team)” and going to the other teams site and reading “Ask the Falcoholic”.
Hey papa falcon is that you?
It’s @touchdownfly.

I have no vampire experience, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got there, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.
