Who's To Blame? Matty Ice? Mike Murlarkey? or the O-Line?

Its not Mike Murlarkey! Why? Because all he can do is call plays. He doesnt throw the ball nor run it. Maybe he calls conservative, but its not his fault if he calls for Julio on a 9 route, Roddy on a dig, Tony on a hitch and Harry on a drag and Matt Ryan is Just Indecisive.

Its Not the O-Line either. Its not the Best O-Line in the league but nor is it the worst. Look at the Eagles, Bears, and Packers. You Got Vick Who is constantly Running for his life, the only reason he hasnt been sacked more than Ryan is because of his ability to extend plays. Jay Cutler is the most sacked QB in the League! But its not Jay Cutlers Fault as you seen make plays Monday Night against the Lions. And Look At A-Rod himself, Sunday night he lost both starting Right Tackles. He was Sacked 4 times. But He Made Plays. Now Im Willing to bet my left testicle that all 3 of those QBs would love to play behind the Falcons O-Line.

The Problem is Matt Ryan. And I will say it over and over again until someone recognizes it. I see Plenty of QBs make way to many plays while under pressure for Matt Ryan not to make any!. He gets happy feet. His release is not as quick and accurate enough to get the ball to these arguably Top 5 tier weapons in the league. I refuse to believe that Roddy isnt getting separation, i refuse to believe that a 6 foot 4 220 pound man who ran a 4.39 at the combine on a hurt foot is not getting separation. Not Likely at all.

The Answer is clear in front of us. Matt Ryan is not a Playoff caliber QB, he is not a Big Time QB. Maybe Top 15. But he is a game Manager. Thats all he ever was. Hand The Ball off to Michael Turner and Hit Roddy White on some Timing routes. He is holding a super bowl ready team and city way back!

Wow

you are so off base it’s unreal. All you’ve done is rant about Ryan for the past few days.

You comment about Vick is counter to your arguement.

Cutlers DVOA is -5.9% (27th in the league) and his DYAR is 25th. He has 300 fewer effective yards than Ryan. Ryan is 16th in DYAR, 19th and DVOA and has 1298 effective yards compared to 962 for Cutler. Ryans success rate is 48.2% and Cutlers is 42.5%. Cutler IS NOT a better QB than Ryan, sorry if you can’t see that.

Comparing Ryan to Rodgers means nothing as Rodgers is probably one of the best two or three QB’s in the league. He also has a much better OC than Ryan.

As far as OL’s are concerned, ATL’s adjusted sack rate is 7.1% or 20th in the NFL. GB’s is 17th and PHI’s is 7th. CHI’s is 31st but that is the only one you are correct about. Of the teams you mentioned ATL’s is the lowest ranked in run blocking. If ATL cannot run successfully they cannot pass well.

Before drilling Ryan people should have a better understanding of the facts.

...I like Matt Ryan, but we shall not call him Matty Ice!

Numbers are facts and sometimes facts don't matter

I give the edge to Jay(even though he has been in the league longer). Physically he has a bigger arm than Matt and is a little more accurate. I am starting to question Matt as well but I am willing to give him another shot under a different OC. Stating the numbers is great but you have to look at the teams themselves. Jays weapons don’t even compare to the Chiefs let alone us.

Matt does seems antsy to me in the pocket but he also has moxy and is a winner. Time will tell if he is indeed what we need.

by pierre02 on Oct 12, 2011 10:20 AM EDT up reply actions

Facts don't matter?

Really? Then what should decisions be based on?

Cutler is not more accurate than Ryan. Cutlers completion % is 58.9% and Ryans is 61.9%. How is that more accurate? I’m not sure what the Chiefs have to do with anything. The comments about the Bears weapons being poorer than ours is unbelieveable. The weapons are only as good as they are utilized. CHI’s OC is head and shoulders better than MM and THAT is the difference.

You guys are starting to get emotional and have a case of “the grass is greaner”. Take a breath and relax.

by mwalex on Oct 12, 2011 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Kinda arguement is that?

The weapons don’t matter? Really? You still have to factor in drops and tips and int’s. Im going bye the eye test. To me Jay is a lil bit better than Matt at this stage.

PS you telling someone to relax is hilarious.

by pierre02 on Oct 12, 2011 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Cutler has been playing longer than Ryan

No the weapons don’t matter if they aren’t being used properly. Pure and simple. Wr’s with less talent, like CHI versus ATL, but in a better scheme with a better OC will play better football.

You can spout all numbers you like

But it is true. I am beginning to doubt Matty as well (ZERO PLAYOFF WINS). Last year was a great year for him. But last year I am starting to think that we may have overachieved as a whole team. We were spoiled had some fluke plays go our way and had that magical sack/turnover we needed to seal the victory or put us in position to make a play.

This season he has been overhyped by all. Its an interesting point to say that he isn’t a winner. He isn’t a playoff winner but its because our def isn’t good at all. We have a no name def that struggles to get pressure on QBs and force turnovers. We have to face a shotty line for us to even put pressure. Def wins championships always remember that.

Can you stay on target?

The discussion is about Matt, not the D. The O failed last year, as well as the D, and against AZ the D failed.

As far as “spouting numbers” go, you either take the reality of the numbers or you don’t. I could care less either way.

As far as no playoff wins go, how long did it take Manning to get his first win?

People need to unknot their panties when it comes to Ryan. Assuming that putting ANY QB behind ATL’s line and with our schemes, and seeing something appreciablly better in unrealistic. Oh yeah, numbers will show that.

by mwalex on Oct 12, 2011 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Isn't it Wins that define the QB

It took Manning 5 years to win a playoff game. Not sure why you wanted to know. But anywho…

Since you like Numbers so much, Ryans numbers in the postseason is:
Compl:46 Atts: 69 Per: 66.7 Yards: 385 TD: 3 INT: 4

Im not doubting the future of Ryan but currently if we want to win now (Front Office motto) and compete he needs to step it up. In terms of YPComp and TD/INT. You can bend numbers as much as you want but the numbers you can’t bend is WIN/LOSS.

And numbers can’t show Hypothetical(sp) situations.

by Kwilbur3 on Oct 12, 2011 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I asked about Manning

because that is relevent when it comes to Matt’s development. I know Ryan’s numbers in the post season aren’t good but he has only been there twice. Flacco’s number aren’t good either.

This thing about Ryan stepping it up is ONLY part of the issue. The offensive schemes are antiquated and while they might have worked well for PIT in the 80’s it’s not the same NFL anymore.

Nothing can show a hypothetical situation as it’s not real.

by mwalex on Oct 12, 2011 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I get what you're saying

But sometimes it does depend on the QB to make things happen. If what they say is true about him having control of the playbook, he should be able to change plays at the scrimmage. Which he did in the GB game on the first two drives. After that it just became so Vanilla it was unbearable to watch.

Whats your opinion on the QB coach leaving in the off season? I think it is turning out to be also the cause of recent struggles. But whats your opine?

by Kwilbur3 on Oct 12, 2011 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the QB coach

leaving might be a bigger issue than first thought.

My other concern is that “explosiveness” has been drilled into Matt’s head in the offseason. Now he’s pressing to make it happen and the combination of bad OL play and less then stellar play designs is causing issues. I really think that might be more of an issue than the new QB coach.

I agree the QB has to make plays. But, as long as we have MM I can’t draw hard conclusions on Matt’s skill set(s).

by mwalex on Oct 12, 2011 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Its just frustrating

This league is all about adjustments and matchups.

We sadly don’t do either. And I agree maybe his first read is to look for the long ball, but its hard to tell when the film I watch zooms out to capture whole play and not QB.

The O-Line is taking a beating but if Jay Culter can do it then so can Matty Ice. After watching the MNF game I am a believer that we can win with our O-Line.

ATL’s is the lowest ranked in run blocking

Where’d you get that stat? Not criticizing, just curious. Like, lowest in terms of what? Yardage per rushing attempt? I could tell the run blocking clearly wasn’t on par with last year’s, but to hear that we have the worst in football right now would really surprise me

That was of the three teams we were discussing, not the entire NFL, sorry

Here is the link: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

ATL is ranked 28th in adjusted line yardage and stuff rate. Not good numbers

by mwalex on Oct 12, 2011 11:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow

28th is still not good. Outside of perhaps the first two offensive drives, the OL definitely appeared to lose steam against the Packers. Perhaps this is a conditioning issue?

I’m wondering how big of an impact the lockout actually had on this team

Mwalex is right here

I’m shocked at how fast some people have turned a 180 on Matt Ryan. I was skeptical when we drafted him, but all he’s done since then is give this franchise something to look forward to. He’s got a 60.8 completion percentage for his career. More importantly he is 35-16 as a starter. If you listen to one statistic, that should be it since winning is what matters. 35-16 is not something that we’re used to as a franchise, but it’s what we have under center. I don’t think blaming Matt Ryan for us being 2-3 right now is the right way to look at it. He hasn’t been perfect, I’ll admit to that, but if you’re looking for perfect then go play Madden on rookie and be amazed.

Reposting my response to this from the original posting...just a little parody for you...lol

Officers arriving on scene and radio sounding in the back ground… Dispatch

Dispatch Officer: “Suspect is yelling incoherently and waving a handgun in the air wildly, shots fired, proceed with caution”

Officer VanGorder: (from behind patrol car door, weapon drawn on suspect) “Sir, drop the weapon and the crack pipe and place you hands on the car”

Suspect: (now holding gun to his own head) “MATT RYAN SUCKS! HE CAN’T LEAD AN OFFENSE! THEY WOULD BE 4-1, 5-0 EVEN IF IT WEREN’T FOR HIM! OH MY GOD! (suspect now sobbing)”

Officer VanGorder: “Sir, please do not take another hit from the pipe…Sir??”

Officer Dimitroff: (to Officer VanGorder in semi-low voice) “Kind of impressive how he can hold the pipe, light the lighter, take a hit with one hand; all while holding a gun to his own head”

Officer VanGorder: (to Officer Dimitroff) “DAMNIT, don’t encourage him!”

Officer Dimitroff: “Sh*t, sorry!” (to Officer Smith) “Go down that ally and see if you can get behind the suspect”

Officer Smith: “No problem comrade”

Officer VanGorder: (to suspect) “Sir, everyone knows that the reason the Falcons suck is that Mike Mularkey is a horrible offensive coordinator!”

Suspect: (eyes now open wide, moving frantically; also pulls the hammer back on the weapon) "NO! MIKE MULARKEY IS A GENIUS, WHY DOES EVERYONE BLAME HIM…WHYYYYYYY! MATT RYAN WAS NEVER A GOOD QUARTERBACK, NEVER WILL BE…NOOOOOOOO NEVER!

Officer Dimitroff: (to Officer VanGorder) “You say that again and I’m beating the sh*t out of you!”

Suspect: (with Officer Smith coming up behind him) "I CAN’T TAKE THIS, MATT RYAN SUCKS SO BAD!!

(Suspect’s finger starts pulling harder on the trigger as Officer Smith gabs his hand pulling his hand and weapon away from his head…weapon goes off! Officers VanGorder and Dimitroff close in quickly. Lots of scuffling the suspect yelling and cursing obscenities. Sounds of hand cuffs clicking)

Suspect: (yelling as he is placed into the back of a patrol car) “MATT RYAN RUINED THE FALCONS, OH MY GOD HELP US…THE OFFENCE IS RUINED!” (Patrol car pulls away)

Officer VanGorder: (picking up the crack pipe) “Man that guy was nuts! Hey, the pipe didn’t brake”

Officer Dimitroff: “Tell me about it! Hey, what are you doing with that pipe?”

Officer VanGorder: (putting the crack pipe in his pocket) “Nothing, I’ll turn it in back at the station”

Officer Dimitroff: “You better! Hey, did that guy say his name was Mike?”

Officer VanGorder: “Not sure, don’t recall”

Dispatch Officer: “All units, officer involved automobile accident, officer injured and suspect is on the loose”…(fades out)

Wow.

What a bunch of spoiled douches some of you have become. Matt Ryan is the problem? How about Smitty openly admitting that he loves to run the ball with 9 in the box, just to “establish the line of scrimmage?” What about the 3 yard curl routes MM loves to call on 3rd and 9? How about that entire offensive line? How about receivers getting no separation? How about Turner his apparent lack of vision? Matt Ryan has issues, but he’s more than adequate to win and his career stats and winning % more than prove it.
