The Atlanta Falcons 53 Man Roster Open Thread

UPDATE: The Falcons released Bear Woods, Jose Valdez and Rafael Bush. All three are believed to have invitations to the practice squad.

The deadline to cut down to the final 53 man roster is at 6 p.m. today.

Along the way, a lot of pre-season Falcons are going to have to get the boot. Use this thread to predict, mull and pontificate on the cuts before they happen, and perhaps to put forth your own preferred final roster. For the record, I'm sticking with my picks outside of a couple quick changes to the practice squad, which I'll reproduce after the jump.

I'll be off and on the computer all day, but I'll have a cuts wrapup by the end of it. In the meantime, if you guys can write front-page worthy FanPosts about the rounds of cuts, I'll pop 'em up.

Enjoy!

Can IR guys be cut? Like Mier?

Yeah that's the only good thing about IR

For players that are good.
You can’t cut them and they don’t count against the 53 man roster.

I think they would have to work out an injury settlement.

Man, that’s one hell of a practice squad

I’m not sure if Trey Lewis makes it
Maybe JPW can play practice squad. I don’t see him playing a down anyway barring injury, so why keep him on the active roster when another guy could be more useful.

I don’t think we sign Kris Brown

Disappointed.......

…..Valdez couldn’t knock Svitek off the roster, but I assume that they didn’t want to risk having only one ‘pure’ OT backup (Reynolds)…..hopefully Valdez will make it through to the practice squad and perhaps be a late bloomer ala Dahl & Clabo.
….interesting how we used to wait nervously for the team announcements on cuts…..now its agents on Twitter with the latest news !

I think Valdez will replace Svitek by next year, if they keep him around

I’m not that impressed with Svitek.

Cuts....

No big surprises…..kept all the DTs, wonder if that might change after week 1 when Babineaux becomes active….Too bad for Jackson, but you have to be awfully talented to make up for a lack of speed in the NFL…….

More cuts.....

Palmer over Zinger…..little surprised, since Zinger was the only “road-grader” blocking type among the group; thought they’d take Palmer over Peele…..Smith over Nance…..little surprised they kept 5 backs, expect that Smith may have a lot of games not dressed….Nance has more talent but he’s a fumbler (going back to ASU), and that’s tough to get around…..No real issues with the other cuts, assume we will be able to sneak a few of the more interesting ones (Woods, Wolfe, Valdez) through to the practice squad

Mostly agreed

I think Palmer is Peelle’s long-term replacement, but the team probably felt Palmer could block well enough that he deserved to stick around. His value as a pass catcher is pretty high.

I posted a breakdown and analysis

Everyone’s free to head there, if they wish.
