Discuss What Steelers Quarterback The Falcons Will Face
It started out as Ben Roethlisberger. Then it was Byron Leftwich. Now it could be Dennis Dixon or Charlie Batch.
Yes, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback situation is in turmoil. Yes, it makes it difficult for the Falcons to plan. No, I don't believe it will spell our certain doom. But it's still worth discussing.
Given that both Roethlisberger and Leftwich are out, who will play against the Falcons during the first game of what will hopefully be an awesome NFL season? Will it be Charlie Batch, he of the ho-hum pedigree and occasional starter over the last several years? Or will it be Dennis Dixon, as raw as a freshly picked turnip but at least twice as talented?
I'll go ahead and kick it off by guessing Batch. The Steelers are a conservative team and Batch is the conservative choice. He's definitely not as talented as Dixon—despite the pre-season struggles the guy had, he's got a good future in the NFL—but he knows the offense. The Steelers are just going to ram Rashard Mendenhall down our throats, anyways.
Discuss, my friends, and enjoy your Saturday!

I got to work today so im not smiling
As for the Qb situation its a tiny blessing to me. Sure they wont have(The call him a egg cause he can scramble) Ben Rothisburger(i know its spelled wrong) but they still have their good offense and killer D. Unless they are missing some people i dont know about it will be like walking with a blindfold on with one eye hole open.

Dennis Dixon
I watched Dixon for years here in Oregon. He might surprise everyone. I wish him well and hopes he gives us a good enough game and then does well against the other teams he will face. He is a class act and has all the tools to win if he keeps his composure.
Edit last post
This doesn’t mean i hope he beats us. I hope he gives us a good showing.
oddly enough
we need Dixon to play well against us, to help condition the Falcons for week 3.
I mean face two teams with QB issues and questionable offenses/defenses that is hit and miss, and then go to the World Champions on the road, that will be a huge shock to us.

My money is on Dixon
Sorry to get off topic for a minute but idk how to fanpost from my phone.
How long do players have to stay on the pup list? Just saw that Ed reed and Darren sharper are both on it. And tj whosyamama will be released this week is Seattle can’t get a trade worked out.

Shouldve read the other posts first lol
I saw where people had already said everything I did in my last comment.
Also, watchig the replay of the atl jax game. Love how bear woods got in the jags ol face after he tackled him after the whistle on that screen play in he 4th. I love that attitude on a team, especiallythe defense, and even more especially the lbs

Dixon looks really sharp
but with the tenacity our D has been showing in the preseason, I think we shouldn’t have too much trouble containing him. I’d expect more trouble from the more experienced Batch.
Steelers just announced
that Charlie Batch will likely start in the opener. i still think they’ll bring in Dixon for a few snaps. Thank god though, i think our chances of winning just went through the roof woth that statement
New Orleans Saints: Established 2010
I never seen either of them.
How are they in the pocket and or against our Defense?

I think
at least for Batch he stand pretty calm. He did play in the last game against us in 2006 when Roelistberger went down in the second half and scored one or two touchdowns against us.

Batch is decent but frail
Dixon is still fairly raw but with a lot of upside.
I would expect a lot of running and play action from the Steelers offence for the next 4 games (which may be brutal when we face the Ravens).
How do I break it to the cat that since he has been declawed, the rabbit he sees in our backyard would kick his sorry butt?

Raw means it's primed for seasoning
He could be anything.

I agree
A lot of Steelers fans, myself included, were ready to hand him the reins until the Denver game. I think it became obvious that, with our current offensive co-ordinator, he isn’t ready to start every down. I do expect you will seem him come in a few times to run some packages that are designed for his skill set.
Our D is looking very good so far but I suspect someone from BTSC will come by and chat about all this stuff later this week.

yeah
I think the game will be low scoring at least for the first half. I sense some smash mouth football perfect for December but played on September, and the game opens up in the second half.

I agree with Dave
The Steelers are going to run, run, run. At first. I think they eventually will have to pass more since the Falcons run defense will prove to be stout. This should lead to some big play opportunity for the secondary.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that. - Bill Shankly

At Best
This still could play into our hands
Our run defense seems to be our Strength and the Steelers haven’t proved that to be their strength of offense in recent years.
It should put the Steelers in 3rd and long situations.
We just need to contain Dixon, force him into bad throws, or don’t let Batch burn our secondary as he did in 2006.

i dont care who it is
We should be prepared for whoever. As long as we win. Dixon Is the best qb they got but he still raw and won’t beat us

no matter who's the QB
we will have hard time winning this game. I’m just glad the game is in early September.
our D is supposed to be good against the run, but I think the game is in Ryan’s and Turner’s hands.

I watched Dixon carve up the Ravens last year.
I hope they start Batch instead.
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
exactly
This is what I was saying (at least about Dixon) in April on Falcoholic.
It won’t be as easy as it sounds.
I think people here are finally starting to realize that.

Dixon
Dixon starts, even though I pray it is actually Batch. Immobile, slow, a little weak on his throws, perfect for pumping up the ego of our defense.
