A question for the Falcon fans...
If the Falcons don’t win the division title, what will be the reason why? Will it be your defense, special teams, secondary, or some other reason?

“If the Falcons don’t win the division title, what will be the reason why?”
I’m going to go with “because the Saints were somehow unable to finish the season”.

Probably at the end of the day, it'll be a combination of factors

Offense
Our defense is still growing, but going into the season our offense was suppose to have weapons at every level. If things continue to go like the AZ game, we should be fine.
And there are you pesky defending champs. Looks like the football gods decided both teams should be without the big threat change of pace back. Looking forward to an awesome game.

I would say
1. That you guys are just better.
2. After the first two weeks, your team found a way to win close games, while the Falcons found a way to lose a close game. Playoff teams find ways to win close games.
3. Turner gets hurt again
4. Pittsburgh’s and Arizona’s offense turn out to be really bad this year.

Tell us about your offense without Reggie Bush. Does it change things dynamically?

I'm sure it changes a lot of things for Payton's play calling and opponents game planning
The Saints have been without Bush before and done just fine, some would argue better. DeShawn Wynn will probably get some carries until Chris Ivory returns. But nobody can replace Reggie’s versatility.

Wynn was cut, and Betts was signed.

to be honest
I was really looking forward to seeing Reggie have a big year. But now that a large portion of his season is toast, I find myself equally excited to see what more packages featuring Lance Moore and Dave Thomas bring to the table.
I for one think it will be equal if not better than a Reggie.
To be honest
I was really looking forward to seeing Reggie getting leveled. I still think one of my favorite hits of all time was when he got leveled by Sheldon Brown in the playoffs when they played the Eagles.
Ah well, I’ll just have to settle with someone sacking Brees.

I fairly certain that hit was from the first Saints/Eagles meeting of that same season...

That INT last MNF was pretty good one for the Birds. That guy GOT UP!
We won, so I’m ok with giving credit.
Is that guy still on your team, and what’s his name?

How much concern is there over the run defense?
Frank Gore was running pretty well on Monday Night, and last year both Turner and Snelling had great games against you…but that damn secondary got the best of Matty Ice at the crucial moments. Do you expect this year’s game to be any different? Because I imagine the gameplan would have to be run Turner, run Turner, run Snelling, run Turner, screen to Snelling. Then again, we never do screens.
That sounds about right
I’m definitely concerned about the Saints run defense. It’s probably their biggest weakest.

Well our run D is suspect at time
But we did hold AP to 87 rushing yards. Frank Gore ran for 112. Let’s all agree those are some pretty impressive backs. Turner is fantastic in his own right. It is a short week for us. I think if you guys pound the ball over and over our front 7 will undoubtedly let through a few big runs. However, Turner and Snelling better hold that ball tight as if you have watched the any Saints games this year that ball is going to be attempted to be punched out almost every tackle.
I see the two biggest stars for the Falcons in this game being Gonzo and Turner.

Now for the question
1. Do you see any concern over what appears to be a slow start for the offense this season. Are the defenses of Minnesota and San Fran really that good, or is the offense just not executing?
2. Except for two plays our run defense has been stout this year, can Pierre Thomas handle a large workload (now basically by himself) against a physical defense? What is his longest run so far this year?
3. Drew Brees has been ridiculously accurate so far this year, and this kind of ties in with the first question. How can he look so good, yet the offense overall not perform to the same standards. No deep balls, less yards after the catch? And when will he throw his first interception?
by Whyte Bler 000 on Sep 22, 2010 11:10 AM EDT reply actions
Forogt
4. How does it feel to have Pat Yasinkas’ (ESPN South blogger) nose so far up your butts? I guess you get a break every now and then when he goes to the Bucs. He has been cutting excuses for the Saints every week, and he talks about the Bucs like they will go to the playoffs after beating two horrible teams by a combined 20 or so points.
by Whyte Bler 000 on Sep 22, 2010 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions
1. Somewhat but not overly concerned. I think that first game was so intense (banner being raised, so much hype surrounding the rematch, etc) that we were a little tight. The San Fran game had huge factors with the wind being as crazy as it was (which minimized long passing plays). I will say that San Fran’s D showed up as was expected. That D is formidable for sure. I think the Seahawks game was there anomaly.
2. His longest was 11 yards against the Vikings. I think PT can hold up pretty well. When we needed him to wind down the clock against the Vikings he did very well against a very good front 7. As an aside, we have DeShawn Wynn and Ladell Betts (just resigned today) as our back-ups. Nothing spectacular there in my opinion but serviceable.
3. I think teams are playing our WR’s super tight. Everybody knows our team is a crazy passing threat. I think that the wind played the most part in limiting the long ball in the second game. Brees takes what is offered (go figure). The short passes are there so he takes them. With Bush out, i see fewer screens and more looks downfield (Meachem and Henderson in particular). As for his first pick? I will go with week 8 versus the Steelers.
Football is easy if you're crazy as hell
Thanks!!!
I look forward to the matchup between our “improved” secondary and your WRs. This game will be the real test of how much our D improved.
Really, week 8? I sure hope your wrong.
I missed all but the last 3 minutes and OT of the San Fran game, so I need to ask a few more questions about Brees. How was he handling pressure, in the past he has been excellent. What does he do to avoid the strong rushes when a receiver isn’t open.
How has he been this year with passes being batted down at the line.
Lastly, even though Sharper was old, he seemed to have a knack for pulling big plays out of nowhere last year. How is the secondary adjusting without him back there. From what the media says, you have a real good group of young guys back there. How will they handle Roddy White this year, as he looks greatly improved over last year. Pittsburgh and Arizona put there #1s on him and couldn’t slow him down.
Are you worried about Harry Douglas or Tony G at all. There production hasn’t been huge, but they have been coming up with clutch plays this year.
Lastly, aside from Turner what other aspect of the offense do you think Greg Williams will focus on to try and slow us down.
by Whyte Bler 000 on Sep 22, 2010 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions
You are welcome
In regards to Brees handling the pressure. He has been showing some of that sixth sense he has to get out of harms way at the last conceivable moment. He has been sacked a few times so far this season (3 if memory serves me correctly). Considering at how much pressure the 49ers were able to generate i am surprised that number is not higher. I would state that he hasn’t lost much, if any, of his ability to handle pocket pressure and escape. Quick screens/dumps to our backs have been our friends lately. Or he can always just throw it to himself like he did against the 49ers.
I have seen i think two passes batted down at the line of scrimmage.
Our secondary is a complete 180 from what it used to be. Lots of analysts had our corners as a top three in the league tandem so it will be a good test to see if there is any truth to that rating. Malcolm Jenkins has done quite well in my opinion in filling in for Sharper. Has made some bigger plays. Not the true Ball Hawk like Sharper is, but good instincts and solid play. Harper is playing really well this season as well.
I mentioned it somewhere else. I am most concerned about Turner and Gonzalez going into this game. Shiancoe had a big game against us so the vulnerability is there.
I think GW will bring forth his usual array of exotic blitz packages to try to rattle Matt Ryan. That unpredictability of the blitzs, as well as the second nature he has instilled in the team for forcing the ball out will be something you will have to contend with.

Honestly, I think there is a little bit of luck involved
But mostly I’d have to say it’s the coaching of Gregg Williams. I think he has made it his goal in life to make sure that all of his defensive players go for the ball, create havoc and force turnovers. If the Saints continue to have success doing this, I wouldn’t be surprised if you see other teams in the league try the same approach.

The perfect example of that
Was last year when Drew threw a pick in Washington and Meach went straight to the player stripped the ball and ran it in for a TD
He said he here’s it so much in practice and they try to strip him so often the technique was etched in his mind it was second nature to him a WR to go after the strip

and the fine line we walk in regard to this
is an occasional missed tackle or extra yards given up as a results of stripping or trying to hit hard rather than “good-form tackling”
