Comcast Draft Talk: Favorite Falcons Rookie Of All Time
As announced previously in this space, Comcast has generously agreed to support the best NFL community around -- us! As part of that effort, between now and the end of the 2010 NFL season Comcast will be sponsoring a variety of special editorial and interactive features on our site.
We've done the best and worst rookies now. It's definitely time for something even more subjective.
You've got to have a favorite Falcon rookie. Maybe it was a one season love affair before the player in question turned back into the NFL equivalent of a pumpkin, or maybe it was a Casablanca moment, the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship. Either way, tell us about it. You won't be judged here.
Just to kick things off, I'll go with Alge Crumpler. I'm not exaggerating when I say I spent weeks after the draft telling my best friend the Buffalo Bills fan all about how great Crumpler was going to be. He certainly never turned into an elite NFL player or anything, but Crump sure was good for a few years, and I loved his talent throughout.
Your turn!
Comcast is a proud supporter of The Falcoholic. You’ll get your Atlanta Falcons games as a part of over 120 NFL games Comcast provides in HD, as well as On Demand game recaps from every NFL game every week, faster Internet speeds, and stunning HD. With Comcast and NFL RedZone, you get every touchdown from every game every Sunday afternoon! Call 1-800-COMCAST or visit http://www.comcast.com.

Tim Dwight.
Not because he was an all-pro or anything, but mainly because he was a sneaky utility pick for the 1998 team. He seemed like a pick that the Steelers might make. A guy who would do just about anything you asked of him. He was running the “Wildcat” a decade before the Dolphins made it popular. He returned kicks and punts. Caught tough passes. Ran reverses. Made one of the sickest throwbacks to Chris Chandler ever.
Exciting additional piece to an already stacked team. Dwight was a thing of beauty.
Side story: I bought an authentic black Dwight jersey during the 1998 season. To this day I still have yet to wash it. And I still wear it. So many beer stains on that jersey.
It has to be Matt Ryan.
Cliche pick, I know, but we were all so excited about the way he came in a performed immediately.
This year, I really like Kerry Meier and have high expectations for the kid..

I would love to Say Ryan
but it is too early. I have to agree on Mr Sanders # 21. He put the Falcons back on the map (if they had ever been there). We finally started getting some attention once he arrived.

I usually don't like flashy players,
but there was just something exciting about this guy when he was on the field. A true game-changer from day one.
Plays that ended with Neon Deion high-stepping to the end zone brought a whole new generation of Falcons fans on board.
Also, a guy who can run his mouth, then back it up and then some is hard not to like. In that regard, Deion was the opposite of D. Hall, one of my least favorite Falcons of all time.
If you were to ask this question a few months from now, I might change my answer to Weatherspoon. I am anticipating him to be one of my favorites for a long time.
um
I believe Easy E is dead my brother.

I assure you Eazy was alive in 1989.

im not so sure
I heard he died of AIDS. I think he would have died before 89. I could be wrong though. I am no Eazy-E fan, so I couldnt tell you for sure.

Neon was electric. My favorite, so far.
Rule #1: Double tap.

Probably Keith Brooking
He was a Tech man, after all…
I remember liking Mike Pritchard a lot, too.

Hindsight is 20/20...
… but, I’ve got to go with Vick on this one. Sure, his Falcons’ tenure devolved into an absolute mess, but the vast majority of Falcon nation was losing its collective mind with excitement after he was drafted.
T.J. Duckett here..
I was really hoping he was going to turn in to another “Iron Head” Heyward or JA 32 but alas it didn’t happen. I kept telling my best friend (a Saints fan no less, my brother likes the Panthers so we three have had a bit of a NFC West/South thing going on for years) how he was just going to tear things up and I was going to laugh as he dominated the Saints. It is ok though because I got to laugh at him for Reggie Bush not being the next Barry Sanders.

Relatively new fan
so it’s gotta be Ryan. I was a big fan of D.J. Shockley at UGA but then he ended up never doing anything.
Jerious
There are few things more exciting than a breakaway run, and Warrick Dunn just wasn’t bringing those anymore. In stepped Jerious Norwood, the rook. Every carry he had, if he got past the first group of defenders, you thought he might take it all the way.
Michael Vick!!!!!
Nothing like watching him running for TD’s as a Hokie. Got me so exited at Draft Day when we got him!!
