Atlanta is on verge of trading CB Chris Houston to Detroit for a 2010 sixth-round pick and a switch of draft positions in fifth round.32 minutes ago via UberTwitter
I like this trade. I dont think we could get anything more for this guy. So long Houston try turning your head around every now and then. I am a supporter of Brent Grimes. Owens just seems a little slow to me. Grimes has speed, can tackle, and is very athletic.

I'm baffled
Say what you want about Houston, he was our best coverage corner last year. Grimes/Williams/Hill/Owens were all miserable in coverage. Only Jackson had coverage numbers close to Houston’s.
I really hope this is not true, and if it is true, I hope it means they’re going to draft a CB.

U Sure
What corner where u watching? Houston was by far the worse cb we had. Williams before his injury was the best corner untill the end stretch were grimey stepped up.
Good Reddens Houston
check the numbers
Houston and Dunta are nearly identical though, so what the heck? Now go draft us a CB Tommy!

I think you're both off
Houston had average to poor numbers – Grimes was slightly better (see below). What is ironclad, bulletproof, indisputable to me is that Brian Williams was the worst regular corner last year (excluding Tye Hill). Williams had the highest Completion % allowed, the 2nd most YPC Allowed (behind Owens), the 2nd most Missed Tackles (behind Grimes, but in only 5 games), and I could go on. And it’s not like teams were avoiding his side of the field, either. He had the 2nd highest Target Percentage (Targets divided by snaps in Pass Coverage) of any CB, too.

houston the best?
I saw a guy that QB’s salivated over when they saw him come on the field. He could get a jam on the line in press coverage, he might be in good position, but NEVER turned to the ball, so QB’s went deep on him all day long. Grimes and Owens were MUCH better than him by the end of the year!
"QB's salivated over"
This is wrong. Grimes is the guy that teams were jumping out of their skin to try to attack – he had 93 Targets in 445 Pass Coverage snaps (20.9% Target Percentage). Houston was thrown at the 2nd LOWEST percentage of all the CB’s on the team – 63 Targets in 427 snaps (14.8%). The lowest? Christopher Owens (13.0% – 25/193). That’s why we won’t know if Owens is really ready for the big-time until teams start testing him next season…

Or, alternatively....
….You could look at that and say that teams weren’t targeting Owens because his coverage was better than Grimes’. Small sample size, I know, but he looked pretty fluid out there to me.

Don't get me wrong
I think Owens looked very promising. And the low number of targets is a great sign. We just don’t know anything about him for sure yet. That’s all I meant by that.

Gotcha
And I definitely see your point. He’s still a little bit of a ?.
That said, remember how widely panned Dimitroff was for taking Owens in the third last year? I’d say the dude knew what he was doing.

Owens started against New Orleans (great hrowing team) , the Jets, Buffalo and Tampa (twice) and Phili (decent but didnt make playoffs)… Only 2 opponents that can throw the ball. Stats are nice, but they dont tell the entire picture either. Thats to me sounds like drafting a guy who looks average on tape but has great combine workout. Watch on the field. Houston never got his head around. He is athletic but that can only get you so far. Where Grimes and Ownes improved throughout the year, Houston did not over 3 years.
I think Owens improved rapidly
I know some of the teams he played against were incredibly inept in the aerial game, but coverage is coverage, and he still did a good job of keeping his guy from getting open.

Grimes > Houston
Houston was never a game changer. Grimes changed it at least 6 times not to mention he’s a freak off the end on FG as well as a freaking juggernaut on KO/P. Houston was scared of tackling, recievers, the ball and cheerleaders. Those are all things not relevant to those pff stats. We did better with CH on the bench. Is grimes a #1 cover corner, no. Are we better off in coverage more now than we were a week ago, yes. Our main prob is how long QBs had to pass the ball. Does pff have a breakdown on length of time allowed for QBs to throw the ball? PASSSSSSSSSSSSSSRUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH
Rule #1: Double tap.
The writing was on the wall for Chris Houston
Honestly, this was about as much as we could possibly get for him, and it was clear that the team likes Brent Grimes better as a nickel cornerback than him. I’m not sure what I think of this just yet, just the same.

Not so sure he was our best cover guy...
He often was in the right place to make a play but never could take that step to actually making one. He never looked for the ball and often big gains could have been prevented if he simply turned around and found the ball. I am a little disappointed this is all we could get back but I’m sure the Comrade did the best he could.
by the numbers, he was

According to your precious PFF, Chevis Jackson was technically less awful than Chris Houston was, not equal.
And their formula isn’t a fact. It’s an opinion made of a subjectively composed formula. It’s not the freaking bible.

Yeah, but you’ve gotta understand that Chevis was ONLY playing Nickleback, covering Slot WR’s on shorter routes. That’s why his YPC average was lower (he was very good in his role, though).

and fyi
if you set their formula aside, and just look at completion against percentage and yards per catch allowed, Houston still stands out (as at least our second best coverage corner from last year).

PFF? really?
Thats a very subjective formula! I could make my own formula using one stat, leaving out another, and have Houston look either average (at best) or torched for most yards given up per reception on the entire NFC…. just be careful with the formulas…
That's just wrong
Of guys playing 60% of their team’s snaps (I think that’s a fairly good # to determine “starters”), Houston was #27 (out of 57), with 12.0 Yards Per Reception Allowed (Grimes was at 11.8, #24). They both bump down a few spots if you set the threshold at 50%.

Franky, you're looking at the grades again
Grimes had a slightly better YPC Allowed (11.8 to 12.0 for Houston), and had a better Catch Percentage Allowed also (62.4% to 66.7% for Houston). Grimes was all over the map last season – sometimes he was great, sometimes he was awful – but he ended up with better numbers than Houston for the season.

I know I know
I tried to justify it better in that other post from last night. Either way, Houston wasn’t nearly as bad as people want to think he was (last year).
Founder and Proud Member of the JASON SNELLING AIN'T ALL THAT AND A BAG O' CHIPS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA
Yes, you are correct sir!

I liked Houston
He was usually in good position to make plays, but that means absolutely nothing when you cant make a play on the ball, I dont know how many times i threw the remote at the wall for our corners getting those BS PI calls for not turning thier heads. Im not really sure where I stand on this trade, hopefully we can pick up some decent players in 5 and 6
