The AJC's D. Orlando Ledbetter is sticking to his guns and picking Pouncey again in his latest mock draft. To make the pick more palatable, he's interviewed the top center prospect.

Hey, I wear a lab coat and goggles while I blog

It doesn’t get more scientific than that.

I prefer Righteous Fury

Why?

I can’t really blame the Falcons for picking the best prospect at a position of need (as much as I like McClure, the man isn’t getting any younger).

I think Peterson will go sooner.

And Spoon seriously is the perfect LB for the weakside, where Peterson plays. Plus, we’re looking at Matty’s old center from BC. The chemistry will already be there, you really can’t go wrong with that.

and we could definetly get the BC center in the 3rd round

while drafting Pouncey in the 1st seems like a huge reach to me.

While I think this may be a bad idea

I have to ask a question – based on past draft experience, how have the O-linemen picked at the top of the draft performed?
There was a similar discussion somewhere in this blog about DE’s, and that there were many 1st rounder DE’s who never met the expectations in the NFL.
So, basically, if they do go with a center, what are the chances of ending up with a wasted pick (as opposed to picking a LB or DE)?

I posted this on another thread already, but BTB just did a post called Bust Factors on Offense. Looks like O-line is about as safe as you can get… Of course, Linebacker is pretty safe, too.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I’m a huge fan of drafting an OL or a Def front 7. But my feelings on our needs leads me more to an OG or OT then a C at this point in time. But hey, if Pouncey is the guy we call, so be it I’ll drink to that. Should add, I’ve been in favor of a Center, just later in the draft!
