Chris Houston Trade Brought Falcons Less Than Expected
According to the Detroit Lions website, the Falcons only received a sixth round pick in 2010 and a conditional seventh round pick in 2011. That's....less than I was expecting.

If I recall, the official report was what we believed.
It was on ESPN and everything.
Maybe they just have it wrong on their site?

Another thing I find peculiar
Is that article was posted 6 hours ago and has the Lions announcing that the trade was made today. Could there have been a hang up that we weren’t aware about? Were the negotiations changed without our knowing here? I’m really confused.
I agree that he’s worth more than a 6th and a conditional 7th, if that’s really what we got.
I felt that he was worth more than the 6th and the R5 swap, but this is ridiculous.

yeah
this is a let down. this guys been a decent starter for a few years now, i was hoping a 4th rounder and a 5th or 6th in exchange. he’s certainly un upgrade from what the lions had. i believe the word is, hustled
If peeing your pants is the coolest, consider me Miles Davis
With Robinson, Grimes, Owens, Jackson, Williams, and maybe Hill, Houston was gonna see the field way, way less often than last year. Whatever we got, I'm fine with it

Now we just need to trade Brent Grimes. He's like seven inches shorter than me!
I mean, shorter than Chris Owens!

All jokes aside
Are you really him. If so dont worry, the world isnt going to flip out like if superman came out of the closet and said he was a superhero at the same time.

I'm also good with it.
I liked Houston when we first got him because he seemed like he would develop into a very good corner. IMO he never improved from his first season. It’s apparent that Falcon management sees him in a similar light.
if boldin
only brought a 3rd then a 6th for Houston sounds just about right(if im right about what boldin brought)
I think Boldin got a 3rd and a 4th.
Whatever it is, point well taken, though I still feel snubbed a bit.

Look at it this way: wouldn't we feel bad taking mid-round draft picks from the Lions?

Updating previous reports, the Lions surrendered only a 2010 sixth-round pick and a conditional seventh-rounder in the 2011 draft in their trade with the Falcons for CB Chris Houston.
In addition to the confirmed 2010 sixth-rounder, original reports had the Lions exchanging fifth-round picks in this April’s draft (No. 132 for No. 148). Instead, the second pick traded won’t come for another year and may be as late as the seventh, presumably depending on starts and Houston’s production.
Now should we be upset that we didn’t get more for Houston? No. He clearly wasn’t producing at an acceptable level for the powers-that-be in Atlanta. That left us with two options other than trading him:
a) we could let him languish at the bottom of the depth chart for a season further reducing his value in any trade
or
b) we could have cut him, saved his salary, and got nothing in return for him.
Personally, I’ll take some picks off the Lions any day of the week for a guy who wasn’t even going to crack the starting lineup. As for getting more for him, I’m not sure we could. Teams have seemed especially reluctant to hand over draft picks – see the near absence of signing of the numerous restricted free agents. This may be due to the perceived depth of talent in this years draft or the reluctance of many teams to trade for expensive veterans instead of signing cheaper rookies. Either way, no matter how high some of us fans might have valued Houston, I don’t think the GMs around the league shared that opinion.
Honestly, I’m thankful we were able to get anything for Houston in the current environment and if we end up with a valuable role player or even starter I don’t think we’ll end up regretting the move.

dont overreact
I think based on the way that Houston (we have a problem) played that we were lucky to get anything for the guy at all. I can say it now that he isnt on the team anymore. the guy outright sucks. I can play corner better than he can and I am 50 years old with a bad knee. Whatever we get with those to late round picks will probably be 100 percent more than we had with him. On to the next!

This could actually be a better deal...
Before, we were only netting one draft pick (a sixth). Now we will be netting two draft picks (a sixth this year, and a “conditional” pick next year). I’m not sure what the parameters are for the conditions, but the better Houston plays, the better pick we receive (I can’t imagine it’ll be anything greater than a fifth). That should soften the blow if he turns out to have a good season, and if he has a poor season, we’ll be glad to get a 7th. The only negatives are: we didn’t move forward in the 5th round this year and it’s supposedly a “deep” draft.
My guess is that we’ll end up with two 6th round picks – one this year and one next year. We weren’t getting two picks this year, we were getting one and improving another by like 17 slots.

Mixed Emotions
I like the signing of Dunta, but not for the money the Falcons laid out for him. That is one confusing contract. The 2nd highest paid CB in football? really?
As far as Houston, well I thought he was worth more even with a swap of 5th rounders. This deal just makes it sound even worse.
"And their 1st pick in the 2010 NFL draft...The Atlanta Falcons select Sean Weatherspoon, LB Missouri."
yes that is dissapointing
But we still got SOMETHING out of him which is better than nothing. A trouble corner for a pick anywhere in the draft to get something better with Dimitroff is good for doing.
