Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Next season will the falcons have a better offense or defense?? Why?

They finished 13th in offense and 14th in defense last season.

On offense, Matt Ryan will be a year older and hopefully better than last season. Harry Douglas will be back to take Michael "slippery hands" Jenkins spot and start opposite Pro-Bowl WR Roddy. They have slightly above average Offensive line play, and Ovie Mughelli is a excellent blocker. Tony Gonzalez is back for at least a year to help us out, but Turner's nearing 30, and Jerious Norwood's bones are as brittle as my grandma's.

On defense, Peria Jerry is back!!!!!, as well as William Moore (Cya Eric Coleman). Curtis Lofton, Mike Peterson and Stephen Nicholas make up one of the best linebacker squads in the league. Thomas Decoud, Kroy Biermann, and Jonathan Babineaux are all rising stars, Babineaux being one of the most underrated players in the NFC South. Big Dollar Dunta Robinson is here to show us how cornerbacks should play, and hopefully teach the young CB's. On the other hand, Abraham is a year older and their D-Ends are nothing to boast about. Especially not Jamaal Anderson. Brian Williams is a question mark after the injury and the fact he is over 30. We do have some young corners with promise that could take Brian's starting spot in Chevis Jackson and Chris Owens. And don't forget Brent Grimes, who has a vertical Nate Robinson is jealous of.

Now, fathom that all the falcons are healthy next year (crazy right?) and make your selection. Don't take draft picks into account, for this post lets forget about the draft this year. Which side of the ball will play better?

Yes....

I think this Falcons team post draft is gonna fair top ten in both catagories. Schedule is the big difference. With our more experienced youth and our starters back we are the most uderated team going in to the season.

Rule #1: Double tap.

Over all...

I see our Offense as the stronger unit. I believe our Defense though will be much improved!

Toss up

I think the defense has more potential to be better with Jerry, Moore, and Robinson all being added, plus the growth of the young players. But I think the offense WILL improve more, with a better season from Matt Ryan and continuity along the O-line I see no reason, other than injuries, that our offense won’t blow people out next year.

I for one worry

more for our offensive line than any part of our game except field goal kicker.
We have depth everywhere that won’t be much of a letdown except for QB and offensive line.
If we lose matty ice we drop in quality to an extreme.
I hope our kickers are solid but i am worried.
Turner slowed way down last year, I hope he comes back to form unless it is as i worry our offensive line let him down.
Overall i see our defense as strong at all starting spots and very little lost with substitutions.

i also

am worried most about the offensive line. While I really hope we get WEATHERSPOON in the 1st, I wouldn’t mind seeing our next few picks go towards the o-line. Maybe we can trade down to the 2nd round and get ’Spoon and an O-lineman (like Pouncey) and pick up someone like John Jerry in the 3rd or 4th.

I think our OLine is average at best...

Our coaches have squeezed blood from turnips. Imagine if we had a little more talent to work with…

It's drafting time

There’s no way we’ll make it through the draft without the Falcons picking up at least one lineman.

It's easy to see the glass half full

When a new season comes, and everyone is refreshed. But who’s the say that we will remain healthy.
Any one or more of the mentioned guys or other guys on the roster may suffer injuries during mini/training camp, OTA, preseason, and during the season, and will be on IR. Hopefully that won’t happen but it almost always do at some point.
